Limitless Evolution As a Snake
Chapter 301: My Love, My Sapphire
I had faced torpedoes with less difficulty than the look Bridget gave me when she asked whether I wanted something permanent with her.
The difference was that I generally knew where a torpedo intended to hurt me. Bridget sat close enough to touch my face, waiting for an answer that mattered because she could still choose to walk away.
"I wanted you here tomorrow, sweetheart, and the day after that. I also wanted to keep making plans that assumed you were going to steal my best piece of fruit, which was how I knew this had become serious."
She smiled, but she didn’t let the joke answer everything. Her fingers stayed against my tail while she asked whether I understood she meant the bond, not just leaving another dress in the wardrobe.
I did. Lyra and Cherry already had that place in my life, and bringing Bridget into it wasn’t something I wanted to treat like another impulsive purchase between disasters.
[System: Take your time with this one, mate. You can return a shit kettle, but trying the same line on a woman will get the kettle returned through your fucking teeth.]
For once, I was aware that confidence and a receipt wouldn’t handle the important part.
I told her what I knew and what I didn’t. The bond was real and lasting, but I wasn’t going to invent guarantees about every System consequence just because I wanted the answer to be yes.
She knew about Lyra and Cherry. She had shared meals with them, heard their separate opinions and seen me leave space for them without treating affection like a competition someone needed to win.
"I wanted my own place with you," she said. "I didn’t need to replace anybody, and I wasn’t interested in being the person you remembered only when the next explosion stopped."
"You had your own place, love. The explosions were going to have to learn to make appointments, and I’d probably still keep you waiting occasionally because I was an idiot, but I wouldn’t pretend that made it fair."
She laughed at the honesty, then asked me to put the phone away properly. I sent Lyra and Cherry a simple message that Bridget and I were taking a private evening and would speak tomorrow, without turning our decision into a group vote.
Lyra replied that I should stop checking the screen. Cherry sent a reminder about being gentle with injured people, followed by a picture of the warm rock at Twawi as proof that somebody in the relationship understood resting.
I obeyed before either could think of another accurate criticism. Old Mate settled into an unusual silence, leaving me alone with the woman who had watched me steal a heater, adopt a nightmare and still somehow decided I was worth the trouble.
Bridget brushed a thumb along the uninjured side of my face. I kissed her palm and asked once more whether she was certain, because hearing the answer mattered more than assuming I had earned it.
She said yes without hesitation, then asked the same of me. My answer came easily once I stopped trying to make it clever.
"I wanted this with you, Bridget. I wanted the ordinary days as well as the ridiculous ones, even if we were both going to have to learn what an ordinary day looked like."
Her wings are shaking before I even touch them, and that’s the moment I know I have to be careful tonight.
I’m not smoke anymore. No more wispy half-here nonsense drifting around looking cool but not able to actually grab anything. Tonight I’m solid, six foot two of thick red scales, real weight, real hands, a tail that can wrap around a waist and actually feel it. First time being like this with someone and of course it’s her. Of course it’s Bridget.
She’s sitting on the edge of the bed, cheeks already pink, hair down out of its usual neat ponytail so it spills everywhere like pale gold water. Her wings twitch behind her, nervous little flutters, and I can smell how nervous she is, sweet and warm and a little bit scared.
I kneel in front of her slow, no rush, no predator stuff tonight. Just me.
"Hey," I say, voice low. "You good?"
She nods too fast. "I’m fine. I just, I’ve never done this before."
"I know." I reach up and brush some hair off her shoulder. My claws are gone tonight, just fingers, warm from the inside heat I run at. "We can go as slow as you want. Say stop and I stop. Easy as that."
She looks at me like she’s trying to believe it. Then she leans in and kisses me first.
That’s the thing about Bridget nobody expects. Under all that polish and cold fairy etiquette she’s got a hunger in her she doesn’t even know what to do with. The kiss starts soft then turns hungry fast, her hands coming up to grip my shoulders, mine sliding around her waist pulling her in close. She tastes like something sweet, flowers maybe, or sugar, I don’t even know, I just know I don’t want to stop kissing her.
My tongue is forked but I keep it soft against her lips, careful, teasing instead of invading. She makes a tiny sound into my mouth and that sound goes straight through me like a shot of electricity.
I pull back just enough to breathe. "Do I turn you on that much?" I ask, half joking, half not.
Her blush deepens, spreading down her neck. "Maybe," she whispers, too shy to admit the full truth, but her body says it for her, the way she’s pressing closer, the way her wings are fluttering faster now like they’ve got a mind of their own.
"You don’t even fucking know," I say, and my voice comes out rougher than I mean it to. "But Bridget, I want to be soft with you tonight. You make me want to hold you safe and gentle. Not like anything else I’ve ever done, your different your all different. your my beautiful sapphire."
She looks up at me with those big glowing blue eyes, surprised, like she wasn’t expecting that kind of honesty from me. Hell, I wasn’t expecting it either. The words just came out.
My tail moves on its own, sliding up along her thigh slow and careful. I feel her shiver under the touch, the way her skin goosebumps even through the thin fabric of her robe. The tail isn’t rough like my hands can be sometimes, it’s smooth, warm, almost gentle in a way I didn’t know I could manage. I let it trail higher, over her hip, along her waist, mapping every curve like I’m trying to memorize her with touch alone.
"That feels..." she starts, then stops, biting her lip.
"Feels what?" I ask, nuzzling against her neck, breathing her in.
"Different," she finishes, breathless. "Good different."
I smile against her skin. My tail keeps exploring, slow circles over her stomach, down to her thighs, teasing at the inside of her knee before sliding back up again. She’s trembling now, not from fear, from something else entirely, and I can smell that shift in her scent, that warm spike of arousal that tells me she’s right there with me.
I help her slip out of the robe, slow, giving her every chance to say no. She doesn’t. Her wings spread a little as the fabric falls away, like they’re stretching out now that they’re free, four translucent panels catching the lamp light, powder blue and lavender with little star patterns glowing faint under the surface.
They’re beautiful. I mean actually beautiful, not just hot, though they’re that too. I reach up and brush my fingers along the edge of one wing and she gasps, actual gasp, her whole body jolting.
"Sensitive?" I ask, voice soft.
"I didn’t know they..." she cuts herself off, flushing even redder. "Nobody’s ever touched them like that."
That’s all the invitation I need. I lean in and drag my tongue slow along the edge of her upper wing, careful, testing. She makes a sound I’ve never heard her make before, high and broken, her back arching toward me like she can’t help it.
"Matt," she breathes, shaky. "That’s, oh gods, that’s..."
"Good?" I ask against the thin membrane, my breath ghosting over the wet trail I just left.
"Really good," she admits, voice barely a whisper. "I didn’t know they could feel like that."
I keep going, slow licks along each wing in turn, feeling her shudder and twitch with every pass. Her hands grip the sheets, knuckles white, wings fluttering under my mouth like she can’t decide whether to pull away or press closer. She ends up doing both, shying back for a second then leaning right back in, chasing the feeling even while she’s blushing like mad about it.
In my head I’m telling myself to slow down, take this easy, don’t rush her. She’s never done this before and I don’t want to just claim her like she’s another body to add to the pile. I want this to mean something. I want her to feel safe, worshipped, like she matters more than just another bond on the system.
My tail keeps moving the whole time, sliding around her waist, up her spine, tracing slow patterns over her skin while my mouth works her wings. She’s a mess of sensation now, moaning softly, shy little noises mixed in with gasps she can’t hold back.
"You’re so sensitive everywhere," I murmur, kissing a trail down from her wing to her shoulder. "I love it."
"Matt," she says again, almost pleading now, "please."
"Please what, baby?" I ask, teasing a little even though my own body’s screaming at me to move faster.
"I don’t know," she admits, laughing breathless and a little embarrassed. "Just please don’t stop."
I don’t. I lay her back slow onto the bed, careful of her wings, positioning her so they’re not crushed under her weight. She looks up at me, hair spread out around her like a halo, cheeks flushed, lips parted, and for a second I just look at her. Really look. This gorgeous creature who somehow ended up choosing me out of everyone she could’ve had.
My two cocks are out now, both hard, but I only guide one toward her, keeping the other pressed against her thigh for now. No need to overwhelm her first time. Slow. Gentle. That’s the whole point tonight.
"This might feel like a lot at first," I warn her softly, lining up slow. "Tell me if it’s too much, yeah?"
She nods, trusting, and that trust hits me harder than I expect. My tail wraps gentle around her ankle, grounding her, grounding me too if I’m honest.
I push in slow, so slow, giving her every second to adjust. She gasps, fingers digging into my shoulders, wings twitching behind her.
"You okay?" I ask, voice strained with the effort of holding back.
"Yes," she breathes. "Just... go slow."
"Always," I promise.
I keep my pace easy, rocking into her with small careful movements, watching her face the whole time for any sign of pain or discomfort. All I see is pleasure slowly building, her lips parting on soft moans, her hips starting to move a little on their own like her body’s figuring out the rhythm before her brain catches up.
"Matt," she moans, my name turning into a kind of prayer on her lips. "Matt, it feels..."
"Yeah?" I lean down, kissing along her jaw, her neck, anywhere I can reach.
"Good," she gasps. "So good."
My tail slides up to wrap gentle around her wrist, the other end still curled around her ankle, holding her like I’m trying to keep every part of her close to me at once. I rock into her slow and steady, each thrust gentle, worshipping instead of claiming. My free hand cups her cheek, thumb brushing her cheekbone.
"You’re perfect," I tell her, meaning every word. "You know that? Perfect."
She makes a small broken sound and pulls me down for a kiss, messy and desperate, her legs wrapping around my waist like she wants me closer even though there’s barely any space left between us. I kiss her back just as hungry, my pace picking up just slightly, still slow, still careful, but with more urgency now building between us both.
"I’ve got you," I murmur against her lips. "I’ve got you, baby, I’m not going anywhere."
"Matt," she gasps again, wings fluttering fast now, body trembling under mine. "I feel, I don’t know what I feel, it’s too much, it’s..."
"Let go," I tell her, voice soft but sure. "I’ve got you. Just let go."
She does. Her whole body shudders under me, wings snapping wide open behind her, a cry tearing out of her that’s pure unfiltered pleasure, no shyness left in it at all. Feeling her come apart like that, trusting me enough to let herself go completely, pushes me right over the edge with her. I groan against her neck, holding her close as I finish, my tail tightening gentle around her wrist and ankle like I’m trying to keep her safe through the whole thing.
We stay like that for a long moment after, breathing hard, tangled together, her wings slowly settling back down behind her, glowing faint in the lamp light.
"Was that okay?" I ask eventually, brushing hair back from her sweaty forehead.
She looks up at me, eyes soft, that cold fairy polish completely gone now, replaced by something warmer, something real. "That was more than okay," she whispers.
I kiss her forehead gentle, pulling her in close against my chest, tail curling loose around her like a blanket. "Good, i love you my sapphire" I say quietly. "Because I plan on doing that again."
She laughs, soft and tired, and tucks herself against me like she belongs there. Maybe she does.
Later, she rested beside me beneath the blanket while I traced a gentle line along her hand. The bond had settled into place, quiet and unmistakable, giving the evening a weight that had nothing to do with numbers.
Old Mate confirmed it only after we were ready to listen. Bridget’s permanent bond was complete, and there was no sudden jackpot or extra refill payment attached to the moment.
[System: There you are, champ. Properly bonded, and somehow she still hasn’t asked for a refund. Try appreciating the miracle without immediately buying another dangerous fucking pet.]
Dazza was family now, and I felt bringing him up during a romantic moment reflected badly on your sense of timing.
Bridget noticed the expression on my face and asked whether the koala was being helpful. I told her he was reviewing my recent life choices and receiving poor marks for sensitivity.
She kissed my cheek, then stole the blanket farther onto her side. I had survived a pressure rig only to lose territory to a woman who didn’t need a weapon, which seemed a healthy reminder that strength rankings missed several important things.
She checked that the door was locked again, then tucked the loose blanket around my injured side with more care than I thought I deserved.
We slept for a while. When I woke, the room remained dark, my side still hurt and Bridget’s hand rested against me as though she had decided that was where it belonged.
I stayed still rather than disturb her. For all my talent at chasing the next stupid thing, I could recognize something worth enjoying before I broke it by moving too quickly.
A soft notice appeared at the edge of my vision. Three names sat beneath a new heading, each one linked to the same growing list of skills and usable abilities.
Lyra, Cherry and Bridget had all appeared together. Under their names, the icons for theft, traffic stopping, Galaxy Brain and Bio-Recall lit beside flight, breathing and the abilities belonging to my current form.
I looked at Bridget, then at the list, and felt a slow, terrible understanding gather behind my eyes.
[System: Small update, mate. Your girls have just gained access to the same toolbox, and judging by the incoming call from Twawi, one of them’s already found the bloody furniture button.]
