Chapter 2114: Chapter 105: Gods_2
Xie Zheng is obsessed with forging; the only thing Gu Shen can probably teach him is how to tame the Heart Flow Power.
That.
Is something he has always felt guilty about.
“This thing is my gift to you.”
Gu Shen extended a lightly clenched fist, indicating for Xie Zheng to reach out and take it.
Xie Zheng froze on the spot. He was an honest man; though he understood what Gu Shen meant, he still shook his head and refused, insisting on not taking it.
“Sir… you already have done me a great kindness…”
“If you truly recognize me as your teacher, then accept it.”
Gu Shen said mildly, “After you take it, I want you to do something for me.”
Unable to argue with him, Xie Zheng could only extend his palm, facing upward.
Gu Shen slowly opened his hand and placed a clump of crimson light-flame in Xie Zheng’s palm. Its heat was scalding; the instant it touched his skin, Xie Zheng’s eyes went wide and round.
Honest as he was, even Xie Zheng could guess what this “light-flame” was.
“???”
He raised his head in astonishment and looked at Gu Shen, staring at his teacher in disbelief, too shocked to speak.
The “gift” Gu Shen had given him was a Spark!
“This thing… it’s far too precious…”
Xie Zheng’s speech was no longer quite steady.
“Precious?”
Beside them, Luo Er spoke up at this moment.
She folded her arms, scrutinizing the man before her in the dark, and said softly, “Xie Zheng, in truth this Spark is not as ‘precious’ as the world claims, but it is certainly far ‘heavier’ than you imagine.”
“Because seven years from now, the Super Giant Source Material Storm will reach the giant wall…”
“As things stand, there is a very high chance that human civilization will be wiped out in that Storm, retracing the footsteps of the Starship Civilization’s downfall.”
“Taking up the Spark is equivalent to taking up the fate of the entire human race.”
These words fell like a massive hammer, striking the Heart Lake within Xie Zheng.
He stared blankly at his senior master of Heavenly Eyes, then turned to Gu Shen.
“Sir, is this… real?”
“It’s real.”
Gu Shen asked softly, “What I said earlier—about you accepting it and then doing something for me—is tied to the Source Material Storm seven years from now. I intend to build, in the North Continent, an unprecedented, towering Great Wall to withstand that colossal Storm that will destroy the Starship Era. I… need someone to refine this ‘Molten Iron Spark’ and bring about this Divine Miracle.”
As these words fell.
The quiet chamber became so silent that a pin dropping could be heard.
Clutching the Spark, Xie Zheng’s expression shifted; in the end he gripped it tight, and asked in a hoarse voice, “Seven years… will our time really be enough?”
Seven years was far too short.
Xie Zheng knew very well that such a span was nowhere near enough to accomplish the “Divine Miracle” Gu Shen spoke of; just refining the Spark alone would take who knows how long!
Gu Shen met Xie Zheng’s eyes directly, his tone firm and decisive.
He spoke only a single word.
“Enough.”
Xie Zheng drew in a deep breath and accepted the Spark.
…
…
“Seven years… is it really enough?”
“If all we had were the ‘seven years’ of the real world, then of course it wouldn’t be.”
Snowflakes drifted down, settling on the shoulders of the two people walking across the Tundra.
Meng Xizhou wore only a thin gauze robe.
“Within the Starship of the Lord of Melting Iron, there is a Time Dojo. Gu Shen brought that Dojo back to the Northern Continent Border… The time we possess is far more than seven years.”
“So we have seventy years, or a hundred years, or even longer…”
Gu Nanfeng asked softly, “Do you think that amount of time would be enough?”
“…”
Meng Xizhou fell silent.
She understood what Gu Nanfeng was trying to say.
How much, after all, did the Starship Civilization outstrip the Five Continents by—only a hundred years?
It was that powerful, and yet it still was destroyed.
Even with a Time Dojo, what of it… A Dojo could hold, at most, only a few dozen people.
“Whatever happens, we have at least a strand of hope now. We have to try.”
She looked at the man at her side and said softly, “Right now there are still vacant Divine Positions across the Five Continents. With your strength, you are perfectly capable of obtaining a Spark of your own.”
Meng Xizhou knew that in these past few days, Gu Shen had been selecting suitable masters for the Sparks.
With Gu Nanfeng’s own talent, and his relationship with Gu Shen.
She believed Gu Nanfeng had a very good chance to compete for one.
“When I was young, I always deluded myself into thinking that I was the ‘savior’ destined to rescue the world.”
Gu Nanfeng spoke quietly, “I would practice my blade ten thousand times through the night. After going to the North Continent, that delusion still did not shatter. Through those eight years, I trained harder than anyone, worked harder than anyone. I kept thinking that when I returned to the East Continent, I would, with my own strength, unify the Gu family, make the burden on the old man’s shoulders a little lighter.”
Meng Xizhou was stunned for a second at this.
“That isn’t a delusion.” Her gaze grew incomparably gentle. “You… didn’t you do it?”
“Yes.”
Gu Nanfeng shook his head, murmuring, “But that is exactly what makes it a delusion. This world has no need of me alone. No matter how hard I try, I still can’t prevent the things that fate has decreed.”
After the Central Continent war ended, he had taken charge of overseeing Changye’s reconstruction, and the Gu Family once more shone with the supreme radiance of being first among the Five Great Clans.
By now, Gu Nanfeng had achieved the greatest wish of his life.
Yet the colors in his eyes had grown much dimmer.
In these last few days, he had often gone to his grandfather’s grave to pay his respects.
Though the war was won, the person he revered and was closest to had departed this world forever.
Previously, because of the demands of war, he had no leisure to let his thoughts wander, and could only bury all his sorrow deep within… But now, he felt an exhaustion that ran bone-deep.
“I’m sorry. I may need some time alone.”
Gu Nanfeng stopped walking and said in a low voice, “As for the matter of the Sparks… I think there are people more suited to them than I am.”
