Chapter 2238: Chapter 2238: Medicine Shocks the World (23)

"Why are you nervous?"

"..." How could he possibly say it?

Jing Po lowered his head without speaking.

Chuzheng’s fingertips played with a strand of his long hair, moving it behind him, revealing the beautiful chin in front.

Chuzheng leaned forward a little: "Practice a few more times, and you won’t be nervous."

A strange yet familiar aura enveloped him, making the young man even more nervous, his body trembling.

"...Practice...??" He stuttered, barely squeezing out two words, seemingly not understanding their meaning.

"Yes." There’s nothing that practice can’t solve!

Jing Po’s eyes showed a hint of surprise, his fingers fiddling with his sleeves: "How... how to practice?"

"I’ll teach you."

"But... um..."

The young man’s breath became short, his face gradually turning red, his eyes wide and round, the corners of his eyes slightly moist.

Chuzheng softly reminded: "Breathe."

The young man seemed to come to his senses, pushed Chuzheng away, and took deep breaths.

The corner of his eyes showed a physiological redness, misty and blurred, and the young man’s flushed lips slightly parted, like a wordless invitation.

Chuzheng calmly patted his back: "Feeling better?"

"Why are you like this?" Jing Po’s voice was soft, sounding like a complaint, yet a bit coquettish.

"I’m teaching you how to practice." Chuzheng justified.

"..."

Practice? Practicing like this?

But... this is so... embarrassing.

"Were you nervous just now?"

Jing Po: "..."

He was startled, not overly nervous back then, but thinking about it now, he’s entirely nervous.

His palms were sweaty, his sleeves gripped so tightly they were crumpled.

Jing Po remained silent, Chuzheng waited for a moment, didn’t press him further, released him, letting him wash up and eat.

Jing Po escaped as if he narrowly avoided a disaster.

-

Once both were ready, they exited the inn, the outside unchanged from yesterday.

The streets were bustling with people.

"Heading out?" The shop assistant smiled, emerging from behind the counter, glancing at the coffin behind Chuzheng.

That smile looked friendly enough, yet Chuzheng found it suspicious.

"Yes." Chuzheng responded coldly.

"Aren’t you having breakfast? We offer it here..."

"No." Chuzheng interrupted him.

The shop assistant’s smile didn’t fade: "Alright then."

Chuzheng ignored him, leading Jing Po outside: "Where to find what you need?"

Jing Po clutched the edge of his hoodie, shaking his head.

He also didn’t know...

He only knew it could be found in Wuyin Town.

Chuzheng: "..."

You’re really something.

Chuzheng glanced back at the inn, then dragged the coffin back.

She stopped the shop assistant, tossing him a handful of Lingbi before speaking: "Question for you."

The shop assistant: "..."

The shop assistant took the Lingbi: "Ask away."

"Know where Zhixi and the River of Forgetfulness are?"

The shop assistant warmly pointed: "Never heard of Zhixi, but I know the River of Forgetfulness. Head east from here, there’s a river over there, that’s it."

Good Person Card mentioned the River of Forgetfulness was a tree.

How has it turned into a river here?

Logically, the River of Forgetfulness should indeed be a river, then what tree did Good Person Card mean?

"Are you sure you’re looking for a tree?"

Jing Po nodded firmly.

"Let’s go check it out first." If there’s an issue, we’ll deal with it then! Nothing a girl can’t handle!

Jing Po obediently replied, "Mm."

-

The River of Forgetfulness wasn’t hard to find, located right outside town.

A stone tablet beside it, clearly labeled ’River of Forgetfulness.’

Clear waters revealed fish swimming inside.

Townsfolk washed clothes and vegetables by the riverbank, fishing boats drifted by.

The scene reflected the serene life of a southern water town.

From the riverbank, no noticeable tree.

After asking around, everyone pointed to the river when ’River of Forgetfulness’ was mentioned.

Inquiry about a tree yielded cheerful nods of "No," no one had heard of it.

Zhixi, needless to say, lacked any leads.

Chuzheng suspected Good Person Card was mistaken, yet Good Person Card insisted he wasn’t.

Jing Po grew agitated discussing it.

What he sought was definitely a tree.

"Okay, okay, a tree." Chuzheng soothed him like calming a kitten.

Jing Po squeezed his fingers and looked down.

"Sorry..." He shouldn’t get so worked up.

"Mm."

Jing Po appeared to speak but closed it down.

He tightened his grip on Chuzheng’s hand, holding on with the other, afraid she’d leave him in anger.

Chuzheng led Jing Po in a circle nearby, her coffin garnered some attention, but no more than that.

Unable to find anything useful, she decided to return, and figure out a way to inquire.

Their way back was stirred by commotion; Chuzheng saw someone lying with blood pooling.

The clothing looked familiar, seemingly someone who accompanied them out of the Wuyin Maze Array.

The figure lay there, seeming beyond help.

Chuzheng glanced at them briefly, then quickly assessed the townsfolk around.

They observed with no apparent shock or fear.

Some even smiled.

Their smile...

Was just like the shop assistant’s.

Chuzheng suddenly realized the unsettling nature of these people.

They didn’t consistently smile, but when they did, it always appeared this way.

Chuzheng braced the young man’s waist, pulling him close: "Let’s go."

Jing Po complied, leaving with Chuzheng.

Once at a distance, Chuzheng glanced back.

The man remained on the ground, but the crowd dispersed.

No one paid him any mind, passerby seemingly oblivious.

[Main Task: Spend five hundred Lingbi within half an hour.]

Chuzheng: "..."

Insane?

[Nope.]

I say you are, so you are!

[...] Okay, as you wish, can I leave?

Chuzheng intended to return to the inn and talk with the shop assistant. Now that King’s Account issued a task, she must complete it first.

Internally, Chuzheng cursed King’s Account endlessly.

Five hundred Lingbi wasn’t substantial, surely easy to spend in a town this size?

Chuzheng splurged, yet upon completion, received no confirmation.

The task doubled instead!

Chuzheng: "??"

What’s going on, little brother!!

Why didn’t the task complete and instead doubled? Is King’s Account faulty?

[Nope, missy, you’ve been doubled.]

Why?

[...]

King’s Account logged off.

Chuzheng: "..." A certain unspeakable thought imperative to say.

Upon reflection, Chuzheng judged her process to be faultless.

A task incomplete and yet doubled surely indicated a problem.

Where’s the issue?

Chuzheng leaned on the coffin, examining inside, seemingly alright, yet where did the trouble lie?
