Chapter 2182: Chapter 2182: Logos of Truth (3)
Mo Xiangqiu looked a bit embarrassed; suspecting his adopted daughter of stealing things was a slap to his face.
"Chief Steward, what was lost? Could it be a mistake? My daughter’s very timid; it’s impossible for her to steal anything." Mo Xiangqiu had to speak up for Chuzheng at this moment.
"The missing item is very important; it’s not convenient to disclose," said the Chief Steward.
"So, have you found it?" Chuzheng looked at the Chief Steward with calm assertiveness.
"..." The Chief Steward suddenly choked.
Though surveillance serves as evidence, Chuzheng only appeared outside the room, and the room’s door was conveniently in a blind spot. Whether she actually went in is genuinely hard to say.
Evidence hasn’t been found yet...
Even the servant’s testimony can’t be confirmed as true or false.
Chief Steward: "Miss Chuzheng, can you explain why you appeared there?"
Chuzheng recalled: "Fei Jinxue asked me to go there."
"What did Miss Jin Xue ask you to do there?" The Chief Steward was puzzled.
Chuzheng pondered for a moment, quite seriously: "To frame me, perhaps?"
Chief Steward: "..."
You’re quite bold with your words, aren’t you?
The Chief Steward took a deep breath: "Miss Chuzheng, please tell the truth."
"I’m telling the truth," Chuzheng said nonchalantly, "Believe it or not."
"Mo Chuzheng!" Mo Xiangqiu was so angry he nearly hit her: "What exactly did you go to do? Speak up quickly!"
Chuzheng: "..."
It was that bastard Fei Jinxue who told the original owner to go.
Fei Jinxue’s purpose was to have her appear there, so when the original owner went, she didn’t even find Fei Jinxue and thought she was just being messed with again, so she quickly left.
Chuzheng insisted it was Fei Jinxue who had her go there.
She didn’t do anything, just made a round and left.
Her serious demeanor truly made it hard for people to doubt her.
And indeed, Chuzheng was telling the truth...
The Chief Steward scrutinized her with complex, obscure eyes; after a while, he slightly nodded: "I hope Miss Chuzheng is telling the truth. Apologies for the disturbance, Miss Chuzheng. Later, I’ll have someone deliver a gift to you, as a token of reassurance."
The Chief Steward ordered the people in the room to leave and walked off, not feeling there was anything improper about casually suspecting someone or bringing people in to search.
Others dared not complain, watching the Chief Steward leave.
Mo Xiangqiu was somewhat out of his depth.
"What on earth..."
Chuzheng pushed Mo Xiangqiu out of the door, ’bang,’ shutting it closed.
Mo Xiangqiu nearly banged his nose, eyes glaring at the door in front of him, his anger soaring to the top of his head.
Things were turned upside down!
What was wrong with this damned girl today? Had she taken the wrong medicine?
Mo Xiangqiu suddenly remembered the smell of alcohol on her; had she gotten drunk and was now acting up?
Mo Xiangqiu wasn’t in the mood to worry about Chuzheng; he was more eager to find out what had happened, thus Mo Xiangqiu left as well.
The Fei Family was destined to not be peaceful today.
-
Chuzheng first went to shower, washing off the alcohol scent on her, though the original owner didn’t know how much she had been forced to drink; the smell lingered a bit.
The bastard might have sobered her up, so she didn’t feel uncomfortable now.
Chuzheng stayed in her room for about two hours before a servant came to her door.
"Miss Chuzheng, the Chief Steward asked us to prepare some sober-up soup and late-night snacks for you." The servant, pushing a trolley, spoke politely to Chuzheng.
Chuzheng: "..."
There really are late-night snacks?
Does the original owner’s power of speech really work? Can’t I just destroy the world with one sentence?
[Miss, any power has limitations; don’t indulge in fantasies.]
Can’t I even have some satisfaction in the game? Can you manage it or not!
[...]
The King’s Account chose the silence-is-golden approach.
Chuzheng pondered casually, then stepped aside: "Place it in the room."
The servant placed the items in the room and quickly backed out.
In this villa, besides the original owner, everyone else had late-night snacks daily. The snacks were generally light, focusing on health, but surely tasted good.
Indeed, she was a bit hungry, so she unreservedly finished them.
Not long after she finished the late-night snack and had barely caught her breath, someone came looking for her again, asking her to go to the main house.
"..."
Just wanting to lie around like a lazy fish, what should I do?
Thinking of a certain bastard waiting for her to favor him, Chuzheng silently encouraged herself, I can do it, I am capable!
-
The guests in the main house had already dispersed, but the decorative colored lights hadn’t been turned off, so it still shone as bright and magnificent, with red carpets laid out. Anyone unaware might mistake it for a show venue.
The main house’s tone was quite vintage, yet not cumbersome; unlike some places that deliberately highlight an ambience with quirky items.
Here, the feeling was comfortable and grand, with an air that could easily produce stunning imagery.
The hall had quite a few people, most standing, while those sitting seemed elderly — clearly, they were the seniors.
The original owner had limited encounters, so she couldn’t discern who these people were.
She walked inside calmly.
She soon saw Mo Xiangqiu standing beside a woman whose face didn’t look well; she was almost leaning on Mo Xiangqiu, seemingly frightened by something.
Meanwhile, Fei Jinxue stood alone in the center, looking pitiful.
The one sitting ahead wasn’t some elder but a young, handsome man in a black dragon-patterned retro Tang outfit, old-fashioned clothing worn with a high-end feeling of a fashion show.
The man held an exquisite cloud-pattern teacup, drinking tea casually, his posture somewhat laid-back, as if inadvertently sitting in the wrong spot.
To dare sit there openly in front of everyone, he certainly wasn’t someone a junior would dare act like.
Chuzheng stepped forward; Fei Jinxue kept her head down, not looking at her.
Closer now, Chuzheng saw Fei Jinxue was trembling.
"Sir, Miss Chuzheng has arrived." the Chief Steward beside the man reminded him.
The man put down the teacup, his lowered lashes lifted, revealing eyes as dark as ink.
His gaze was casual, like assessing an object, yet it made people uncomfortable, as if he was sizing up its worth.
This person...
Chuzheng’s hand dropped at her side, gradually clenched, yet her gaze didn’t evade, meeting his head-on.
Their gazes intersected mid-air; the man seemed intrigued, his mouth curving slightly, a clear voice gradually sounded: "You’re Mo Chuzheng?"
"Yes."
"Are you not afraid to see me?"
Chuzheng’s tone remained unchanged: "Who are you?"
"..."
The curve of the man’s mouth rose into a more attractive arc.
And at the moment Chuzheng uttered those three words, the entire hall’s atmosphere shifted.
Heavy and oppressive.
As though she had said something dreadful, prompting fear and trembling among these people.
"Mo Chuzheng, don’t talk nonsense," Mo Xiangqiu softly reprimanded.
The man glanced leisurely in his direction, a single light glance, making Mo Xiangqiu unable to speak further, even halting him from looking at the man.
"You’re a bit different from the information," the man withdrew his gaze, adjusted his posture, the curve of his mouth suddenly flattened, tone devoid of fluctuation: "Quite interesting."
