Last Gun Alchemist
Chapter 584: The Grand First-Year Combat Festival: The Rematch of the Flowers VI
Boom!
Diane and her one hundred and twenty-eight ice clones moved.
Their figures blurred.
The ice clones did not remain behind Diane as they had before. They spread out across the battlefield, each one moving with the same purpose while Diane disappeared among them.
For a brief moment, it looked as though a whole group of Diane-like figures had simply been released at once.
Their feet struck the damaged platform.
Their bodies dashed forward.
The wind created by their movement rushed outward, carrying loose snow and small fragments of ice across the ground.
Vera stood calmly in front of them.
Her dull black eyes moved from one ice clone to another.
There were too many.
The clones were identical.
The same face.
The same clothing.
The same posture.
Even their movements were almost impossible to distinguish from one another.
But Vera did not look at them as a group.
Her eyes moved.
One.
Two.
Three.
Then another.
She searched through the advancing figures until her gaze finally stopped on Diane.
There.
Among the ice clones, Vera had found the real one.
She raised her right hand.
Then her left.
Her fingers moved slightly.
She pushed both hands forward.
It was a simple movement, but the firearms hovering around her responded immediately.
All the AK-47s, FAN FAL Battle Rifles, and fifty of the BAR M1918s moved forward from their previous arrangement.
The firearms had been hovering above and around Vera in organized groups.
Now their barrels turned toward the incoming ice clones.
The weapons moved slightly closer.
Their muzzles aligned.
The first rows aimed toward Diane and the clones.
Then...
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
The rifles fired.
The sound of gunfire immediately filled the space above Vera.
Hundreds of cartridge cases fell from the firearms.
They struck the damaged platform one after another, scattering across the ground around Vera’s feet.
Some bounced against pieces of broken rock.
Others rolled down the shallow cracks that had been created during the earlier exchanges.
The firearms did not stop.
Their barrels continued moving under Vera’s Alchemy Levitation as she adjusted their angles.
The bullets rushed through the air.
They formed a dense stream of metal moving toward the incoming Diane-like figures.
At the same time...
Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap!
Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap!
A unified sound of hands coming together echoed from Diane’s position.
Diane and her ice clones had moved at the same time.
All of them brought their hands together.
The sight was almost strange.
One hundred and twenty-nine identical movements happening together while a storm of bullets was already moving toward them.
Diane’s space bag opened.
Glass bottles filled with water flew out.
They spread toward the hundreds of ice clones.
Three bottles moved toward each clone.
The glass containers floated in front of their bodies as the clones continued moving.
Every one of the one hundred and twenty-eight ice clones now had three glass bottles of water floating in front of them.
Diane had the same.
They all began performing the same Frost Alchemy Circle.
Light-blue Cognis flowed from their bodies.
It moved through their arms and gathered within their hands.
The Alchemy Symbols appeared.
One after another.
The Frost Alchemy Circles formed between their palms.
One.
Ten.
Twenty.
Then dozens more.
The circles continued appearing across the battlefield.
The incoming bullets were already close.
Yet the clones did not stop.
They continued the same execution as Diane.
Once the hundreds of Frost Alchemy Circles formed, the glass bottles broke.
Crack!
Crack!
Crack!
Crack!
Water spilled from the broken containers.
But it did not fall onto the ground.
The water was pulled toward the Frost Alchemy Circles.
It flowed into them.
The liquid compressed.
Then it began to mold under the control of the Alchemy.
Everything happened within milliseconds.
The barrage of bullets continued falling toward them.
Then...
The Frost Alchemy Circles ignited.
Light-blue Cognis spread across the battlefield.
Twenty ice clones immediately ran ahead of Diane and the other clones.
They moved to the front of the formation and stretched their hands forward.
Behind them, Diane and the remaining ice clones raised their hands.
A barrage of water droplets shot upward from the Frost Alchemy Circles.
Hundreds of small droplets rose into the air.
They moved toward the incoming bullets.
The first droplets touched the bullets.
Crack.
The bullets froze instantly.
But freezing them did not remove their momentum.
The frozen bullets continued moving forward for a short distance before beginning to fall.
As they descended, cracks appeared across their frozen bodies.
The metal inside the bullets had been frozen along with the rest of the projectile.
The sudden change caused the material to fracture.
Crack.
Crack.
The bullets broke apart.
Fine ice dust scattered through the air.
The area around Diane became filled with falling ice particles.
It looked almost like a thin snowfall beneath the constant flashes of gunfire.
But the barrage had not stopped.
Vera continued firing.
The AK-47s continued their rapid shots.
The FAN FAL Battle Rifles followed.
The fifty BAR M1918s continued to pour bullets toward Diane’s ice clones.
Diane kept her clones moving.
The water droplets continued rising.
Each time a bullet approached, another stream of droplets moved to intercept it.
Some bullets froze.
Others passed through.
The ice clones adjusted their positions to cover the gaps.
The battlefield had become a constant exchange between metal and frost.
Then...
Boom!
Diane moved.
She dashed away from the area where her ice clones were concentrated.
The sudden acceleration created another wave of wind.
Her feet struck the damaged platform hard enough to leave another small crack in the surface.
She moved away from the group.
Vera noticed immediately.
Her dull black eyes followed Diane.
She calmly redirected the AA-12s.
The heavy automatic shotguns turned in the air.
Their barrels moved toward Diane.
KZZRAK!
The sound of another Alchemy Circle forming erupted from Diane’s direction.
Almost at the same time...
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
Vera fired the AA-12s.
The weapons released their pellets toward Diane.
But Vera did not stop controlling the other firearms.
The AK-47s continued firing at the ice clones.
The FAN FAL Battle Rifles continued firing.
The fifty BAR M1918s continued firing.
Vera’s Cognis moved between all the weapons as she maintained their firing patterns.
At the same time, she continued reloading them.
The magazines moved through the air.
Empty ones were removed.
Loaded ones replaced them.
The entire process happened while Vera kept her eyes on Diane.
She was fighting two battles at once.
One against Diane herself.
Another against the one hundred and twenty-eight ice clones.
The first group of AA-12 pellets reached Diane.
Boom!
Boom!
Boom!
Boom!
Boom!
Diane jumped.
The first set of pellets crashed into the ground beneath her.
Broken pieces of rock flew upward.
She twisted her body in the air, allowing several pellets to pass only inches from her.
One passed near her shoulder.
Another went beneath her foot.
Another crossed behind her waist.
Diane rotated through the air and landed without losing her balance.
The Frost Alchemy Circle she had been constructing was now complete.
The Frostsilver crystals that had been floating in front of her flowed into the circle.
The crystals melted.
Their material compressed.
Then it spread into Diane’s hand, where the Alchemy Circle hovered above her palm.
Her hand began glowing light-blue.
She turned her body.
Another group of pellets came toward her.
Diane moved between them.
Her body leaned to one side.
The pellets passed through the space she had just occupied.
Diane’s fist tightened.
"AHHHHH!!!"
Her voice rang across the battlefield as she descended toward the ground.
Cognis surged through her body.
Her muscles strengthened.
Her bones hardened.
Her tissues were reinforced.
BOOM!
Her fist struck the ground.
The already damaged section of the platform erupted again.
Chunks of broken rock flew upward from the impact.
Cracks spread outward beneath Diane’s fist.
But that was not her Alchemy.
The Frost Alchemy had only just begun.
The ground immediately erupted with large chunks of ice.
They rose rapidly.
One after another, they pushed upward from beneath the platform.
Some formed into thick walls.
Others grew into sharp spikes.
The mass of ice continued expanding toward Vera’s side.
At the same time, it blocked the pellets from the AA-12s.
Vera immediately moved.
She jumped backward.
Her body left the ground as the ice rushed toward her.
Her right hand moved sharply.
One Repeater Sword Rifle separated from the mass of firearms.
It flew toward her.
Vera reached out.
She caught the rifle with one hand.
The weapon’s momentum helped carry her farther to the side.
She used that movement to escape the growing ice formation.
Large pieces of ice continued rising where she had been.
Some of them developed sharp spikes along their surfaces.
Others pushed across the ground, forcing Vera to continue moving through the air.
But Vera still did not stop firing.
Her firearms remained active while she moved.
Diane did the same.
Neither girl allowed the other’s attack to interrupt her own.
Several ice clones dashed forward.
They brought their hands together.
Clap!
Clap!
Clap!
They began executing another Frost Alchemy without Diane personally performing each Alchemy Circle.
That was the advantage of the clones.
Diane did not need to stand beside every one of them, all she had to do was to use her subconsciousness and her Cognis to control their actions.
The ice clones could perform the Alchemy themselves.
Vera noticed them.
Her free hand moved.
She pointed her index finger toward the incoming clones.
Several Lee-Enfield No. 4 Mk Is changed direction.
Their barrels turned toward the advancing ice clones.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
The rifles fired.
The sky above the ice clones became filled with incoming bullets.
The clones moved.
They zigzagged across the battlefield.
One moved left.
Another shifted right.
A third lowered her body before another bullet passed above her head.
They continued moving while their Frost Alchemy Circles formed.
The bullets chased them through the air.
Some struck the ground.
Others passed between the clones.
The clones kept their formation from breaking completely while continuing the Alchemy execution.
At the same time...
Vera changed her target again.
She controlled the Springfield M1903As.
She did not look through their sights.
She did not need to.
The rifles were under her Alchemy Levitation.
Their positions were already known to her.
Their barrels moved toward the other ice clones.
Then toward Diane.
Vera’s eyes remained focused on the battlefield.
The AK-47s stopped firing.
The FAN FAL Battle Rifles stopped.
The fifty BAR M1918s also stopped their firing sequence.
The change happened almost together.
The constant automatic gunfire suddenly disappeared from one part of the battlefield.
For a brief moment, the difference in sound was noticeable.
Then...
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
The Springfield M1903As fired.
The sniper rifles sent their bullets farther across the battlefield.
Their shots moved toward Diane and the remaining ice clones.
The fight platform was now filled with the sound of gunshots and the cold air produced by the Frost Alchemy.
Bullets crossed through the air.
Ice continued growing from the damaged ground.
The clones moved between the shots.
Diane moved among them.
Vera controlled the firearms from her side.
Neither Flower gave the other enough space to stop.
The battle between the Flower of Ash and the Flower of Bergwyn continued.
