Chapter 122: They will see this
Chapter 122: Chapter 122: They will see this
Amelia kept her voice even despite the pain spreading through her body.
"I’m kindly requesting that you stop."
"It’s part of your punishment. You dodge the stones while you jog. Isn’t that right?"
A chorus of agreement rose from the surrounding recruits.
Another stone flew through the air, whistling past Amelia’s ear.
"Better start running if you don’t want to get hit!"
Amelia forced her legs to move faster.
The stones came more frequently now, striking the ground around her and bouncing across the track. Some clipped her arms. Others slammed into her back and shoulders. She raised both arms over her head, doing everything she could to protect her face.
What sort of cruelty is this?
She couldn’t block them all. Every impact sent another burst of pain through her already aching body.
I have to protect myself. I don’t deserve this shit. But I can’t get angry. If I do...
She didn’t even get to finish the thought.
Another stone struck the side of her head.
Pain exploded through her skull.
"Stop!" she shouted.
Laughter answered her.
"Aww, is the little killer crying already?"
"Run faster, murderer! Maybe the stones will miss if you stop being so pathetic!"
"This is nothing compared to what you did to those people. Keep moving, bitch!"
"Look at her covering her face like a scared child!"
The insults came from every direction, mixing with the laughter until Amelia could barely hear anything else.
Her body hurt.
Her head throbbed.
Her patience finally ran out.
Something inside her snapped.
That’s it.
"A-a-a-a-g-h-h-h!"
The sound that tore from her throat was nothing like a human scream.
It was a piercing, inhuman siren—high, pure, and devastating.
The sound slammed into everyone within range.
Bodies froze mid-motion.
Then recruits began collapsing in waves.
Hands flew to ears as people dropped to their knees and curled over themselves. Some clawed desperately at their hair and scalps as if they could somehow tear the pain out of their skulls.
"It hurts—make it stop!"
"My head—fuck—make it stop!"
Amelia cut the sound off as abruptly as it had begun.
The training field fell into ragged silence.
Only groans and sharp cries remained as the recruits struggled to recover.
Amelia breathed heavily, her body still throbbing from the earlier attacks.
Such power is really quite effective.
A cold satisfaction flickered through the lingering pain.
Then she noticed someone approaching.
The female officer was sprinting toward her, fury twisting her features.
Oh, great.
The woman stopped only a few feet away.
"What is the meaning of this?"
Amelia opened her mouth to explain.
She never got the chance.
The woman’s palm cracked across her cheek.
Amelia’s head snapped to the side, and the taste of blood immediately filled her mouth.
"You can’t even follow a basic punishment," the woman snarled. "Instead, you pull a stunt like this?"
"I was protecting myself," Amelia said, tasting blood as she spoke. "They started it."
The woman’s expression hardened.
"Your punishment has increased for this reckless action."
She seized Amelia’s arm in a crushing grip and began dragging her across the field.
Pain shot up Amelia’s shoulder.
"Let go of me."
She dug her heels into the ground and tried to pull herself free.
The woman suddenly swung her around with brutal force.
Amelia’s feet left the ground.
Before she could react, she was thrown across the open field.
Her body slammed into a boulder with enough force to knock the breath from her lungs.
She crumpled against the stone.
Blood spilled from her lips as she coughed, struggling to push herself upright.
What the fuck...
Her arms shook beneath her weight.
She barely managed to lift her head before she saw the woman already closing the distance.
Her aura had begun to flare.
It was thick, oppressive, and filled with an unmistakable intent to harm.
Then another aura crashed over the field.
It swept across the entire training ground like a tidal wave.
The officer froze mid-step.
Amelia felt it too.
The pressure was immense. Familiar. And unmistakably theirs.
Three figures strode onto the field.
The Ellington brothers.
Every recruit within sight immediately scrambled backward, desperate to put as much distance between themselves and the three men as possible.
Fear spread across their faces.
The brothers didn’t need to say a word.
Their expressions made their feelings perfectly clear.
They were furious.
Cold sweat gathered along Mavis’s temples.
The crushing weight of their combined aura pressed against her lungs until the men finally reined it in.
Enzo’s voice cut through the silence.
"What is the meaning of this?"
Mavis straightened as best she could, though her trembling hands betrayed her.
"I am Officer Mavis. The recruit caused a serious commotion and is currently receiving her punishment."
Dean was already beside Amelia.
He knelt down and carefully lifted her into his arms.
His eyes immediately moved over the blood streaking her face and clothes.
When he looked back at Mavis, the fury in his expression had only deepened.
"And she caused all of this on her body as well?"
Mavis’s chin lifted a fraction.
"She is the Moonfist killer."
Reid’s gaze locked onto her.
"Does flinging our partner across a field count as part of that punishment?"
"She disrespected me and my position and that of others."
Reid’s lips curved into a thin smile that held no warmth whatsoever.
"Then I’ll show you what real disrespect looks like."
He moved before Mavis could react.
His fist drove into her stomach with devastating force.
The impact lifted her completely off the ground and sent her flying backward. She crashed into the earth hard enough to send dirt scattering around her.
The momentum carried her several more feet before she finally stopped.
Blood spilled from her mouth as she gasped, her body shaking.
For the first time, fear overtook whatever authority she had been trying to hold onto.
Reid launched himself after her without hesitation.
Another figure intercepted him midair.
The collision stopped Reid’s advance with enough force to send dust and dirt exploding across the field.
When the cloud finally settled, Reid found himself face-to-face with Caleb.
Both men rose to their feet.
Reid’s expression shifted into something almost pleased.
"This is convenient. I’ve been wanting to beat the shit out of you for a while now."
Caleb kept his stance controlled. "Calm down. We can resolve this without throwing fists."
Reid’s eyes narrowed.
"Are you calling yourself a pussy right now?"
He lunged again.
Caleb sidestepped the punch cleanly.
From Dean’s arms, Amelia spoke, her voice strained but clear.
"Stop...the fight."
Dean didn’t look away from the two men circling each other.
"I can’t do that. This isn’t only about our reputation. It’s to show everyone exactly how far we’re willing to go to protect our woman—no matter who stands in the way. They need to see it."
