Chapter 761: Chapter 350: Beneteau Oceanis 45 - 45 Feet (Part 2)

[Teacher Riven really knows how to livestream! I’m fired up watching! Type "want to see" on the public screen!]

"Alright, alright," Mike’s voice came from the cockpit, interrupting the sightseeing tour.

"Riven, stop marketing my boat like a yacht salesman. Our captain still has serious work to do."

He slammed a giant map of the Bahamas and a stack of blank navigation plan sheets onto the dining table in the salon.

"Okay, Captain," he pulled Lin Yu’an back to reality from his excitement over the new boat, "The tour is over, now let’s get to work."

"This is the first leg of our journey for the next 72 hours from Fort Lauderdale to Bimini Island, Bahamas."

"Now, I need your navigation plan briefing, and then we’ll supplement your briefing."

"You need to tell me the exact routes, the latitude and longitude of every turning point, estimated sailing time, how to cross the Gulf Stream, and what the backup route is."

"And how much food, fresh water, and fuel we need to prepare. You have two hours, and after two hours, you will give a formal navigation briefing to your first mate and me."

This sudden professional test silenced the livestream instantly, and everyone felt the solemn pressure.

Both Mike and Riven thought that soon they would see Lin Yu’an frantically consulting information and burying his head in calculations.

However, Lin Yu’an’s face showed no sign of nervousness, not even a hint of surprise.

He simply glanced calmly at the map on the table, then leisurely and slowly took out an iPad Pro from his backpack.

He unlocked the screen, opened a professional navigation planning software, and connected the iPad to a large display on the wall of the salon using a data cable.

"No need for two hours, Captain." Lin Yu’an’s voice was calm and confident, "I can start now."

Both Mike and Riven were stunned, their expressions instantly frozen.

[Whoa?! What’s going on?!]

[Oh my god! God Lin must have had this prepared long ago!]

[No need for two hours, I can start now! He showed off again!]

Lin Yu’an ignored their shock, and right in front of the camera and the two coaches, he began a navigation briefing that could be described as textbook-level.

"Good morning, everyone. Our captain’s first lesson begins now."

He held a stylus in his hand, pointing to the elaborate electronic map covering the entire Bahamas Islands displayed on the large screen.

"After receiving Captain Mike’s call last night, I already made a preliminary plan for this fifteen-day voyage, so I’ll outline the overall journey, not just the three-day journey."

"Our ultimate goal is to depart from Fort Lauderdale, head south all the way to Providenciales Island, Turks and Caicos Islands, and then return."

"The total journey exceeds 1000 nautical miles, considering the uncertainties of weather and supplies, I divided the whole voyage into four main legs."

He zoomed in on the first area of the map.

"Leg one: Fort Lauderdale to Nassau. This is our warm-up leg, with a total distance of about 180 nautical miles, an estimated sailing time of 30 to 36 hours, including one night voyage. The primary challenge is crossing the Gulf Stream."

"According to calculations, taking this optimized route can save at least an hour and a half when crossing the stream, and can avoid the strongest head waves caused by opposing winds at the center of the stream."

When he finished that sentence, Mike and Riven were already amazed. Just the first leg, this rookie captain was already considering operations at the level of "counter-flow eddies"!

Lin Yu’an did not pause and continued pointing to the second leg.

"Leg two: Nassau to Georgetown. This is the essence leg of exploring the Exuma Islands, about 135 nautical miles in distance."

"The challenge for this leg is no longer open water navigation, but precise ’reading the water’ and navigation among numerous islands and shoals."

"The color of the seawater here changes extremely quickly, from deep blue to turquoise to milky white, corresponding to different depths, and I will rely strictly on charts and visual observation to confirm the channel."

"Leg three: Georgetown to Providenciales Island, the longest leg, exceeding 300 nautical miles, requires at least two days and nights of continuous sailing."

"We’ll be completely away from land, entering true ’blue water’ sailing mode."

"The biggest variable in this leg is the tropical disturbance that I discovered might form around the tenth day in the weather model."

"For this, I designed three alternative storm shelters, located at..."

He detailed the advantages and disadvantages and access methods for each backup port.

"Leg four: Return journey. This will depend on the weather window once we reach the destination, and I will update weather data daily to choose the most favorable time to start the return journey."

After discussing routes, he switched to the official documentation page.

"Regarding the sailing notice, the naval exercise areas are here, our route perfectly avoids them."

"Regarding customs, I’ve submitted the United States electronic departure application and pre-filled the entry documents for Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands, printing three paper copies."

Riven opened her mouth, the sentence she had prepared to casually remind Lin Yu’an about got stuck in her throat.

Looking at the man in front of her, for the first time, she felt a sense of powerlessness of being completely crushed in the field she excelled in.
