Chapter 713: Chapter 336: Modern Warfare Patterns (3)

"It’s very likely that the tricycles entered the mountains one after the other, and while we were focused on the internal transactions, he quietly got into the sniper position!"

"This time lag... I neglected the importance of continuous vigilance! I request a disciplinary action! I will conduct a deep self-examination!"

Hearing Xiaoli’s explanation, the anger in Yang Zhen’s heart subsided significantly, replaced by a cold alertness.

He knew it wasn’t Xiaoli’s fault; it was just a costly accident.

"Now is not the time to talk about this!" Yang Zhen’s voice carried an undeniable calmness.

"You are not mistaken; we all underestimated the enemy! Who would’ve thought we’d encounter such a professional sniper while capturing a gang of poachers domestically!"

"This accident taught all of us a lesson — never take any criminal lightly!"

Then his tone sharpened: "Now, tell me, can you pinpoint his exact location?"

"Report Captain! He’s using the rocks for cover, we can only see the general area!"

"That’s enough!" A determined light flashed in Yang Zhen’s eyes.

He glanced at the tricycle that was about to disappear at the end of the dirt road, then looked at his members pinned down by sniper fire, and quickly made a decision.

The main offender is escaping, but a fugitive with a sniper rifle, trained and on the run, poses a greater potential threat to society! We must prioritize eliminating this most deadly threat!

"I’m authorizing you to use the Stinger!" Yang Zhen said through gritted teeth.

"Hawkeye, your mission is to do whatever it takes to keep that sniper on this mountain! Do not let him escape! Immediately, now! Execute!"

"Hawkeye acknowledged!"

With the authorization, Xiaoli’s eyes became instantly focused and sharp. All his guilt and remorse transformed into precise operations at this moment.

He quickly retrieved a long-shaped drone from the equipment box beside him, skillfully mounted it on the portable launcher, and connected the data line to his tactical tablet.

The screen’s display instantly switched, revealing an attack interface full of crosshairs and various flight parameters.

"Stinger system self-check complete, calculating trajectory... Based on the enemy’s last firing position and possible transfer path, the optimal attack route has been planned... Target area locked!"

Xiaoli took a deep breath and pressed his thumb heavily on a virtual red launch button on the screen.

"Stinger, engage!"

"Whoosh—!"

A sharp piercing sound rang out as the small attack drone trailed an almost invisible tail.

Like an enraged wasp, it leaped from the ridge at a speed hard to catch with the naked eye, straight towards the death zone on the opposite side.

Its speed was astonishing, crossing the distance between two ridges almost instantaneously.

On the tablet’s screen, the image from the Stinger’s front camera zoomed dramatically, and the sniper’s figure behind the rock became increasingly clear.

In the last moment of his life, he seemed to sense something and abruptly lifted his head.

Xiaoli closely watched the screen, murmuring, "Old man, times have changed! In the past, snipers were ghosts on the battlefield."

"But now is the era of drones, and any disguise and lurking are meaningless in the face of the data link, lock-on and destroy."

His face’s terrified and incredulous expression was frozen in the last frame; for this fugitive who survived the jungle law, he was defeated by an unfathomable new era.

"Target confirmed, impact!"

The next second, on the distant ridge, a burst of orange-red flames erupted suddenly!

"Boom—!"

The explosion’s loud bang echoed through the valley, even overpowering the previous gunfire. Intense black smoke rose into the sky, declaring that this deadly threat had been completely ended.

The entire mining area plunged into a moment of dead silence.

"Threat eliminated!" Xiaoli’s voice sounded on the communication channel, carrying a hint of relief after completing the task.

Crisis averted.

Yang Zhen immediately stood up from behind cover, but his gaze wasn’t on the blasted ridge; instead, he looked towards the end of the dirt road where Uncle Ghost had long disappeared, his face grim.

He issued new instructions: "Team One, immediately proceed to the sniper’s position, confirm the target’s death, and conduct a site survey! Hawkeye, maintain vigilance! The rest, check the wounded!"

Two soldiers immediately set off, climbing toward the opposite ridge to confirm the sniper’s condition. Meanwhile, two other soldiers quickly ran to those bound criminals, checking their status.

The young man hit directly in the vital part by the SVD showed no signs of life.

Blood soaked the scattered banknotes beneath him, appearing extraordinarily glaring.

At that moment, a heart-wrenching cry pierced the entire mining area.

The previously arrogant Sun Changji, now like a mad beast, desperately twisted his bound body, struggling to crawl to the corpse’s side.

Looking at that face, already devoid of blood but still carrying a hint of youthful heroism, murky tears rolled down his fleshy face.

He wept loudly, his voice desolate and hopeless, but what he shouted left all the soldiers present dumbfounded.

"Daughter... my daughter!!"

The soldiers stared in shock at him, realizing the short-haired, camouflage-uniformed young person always by his side was a girl!

Sun Changji seemed completely broken, hitting his head repeatedly against the ground, not caring at all as blood trickled down from his forehead.

He kept muttering, as if speaking to his daughter, and as if talking to himself: "Dad was wrong... Dad shouldn’t have let you follow me into this..."

"Dad just wanted you to be like a son so you could carry on the family incense... Now everything’s gone... everything is gone!"

He suddenly lifted his head, bloodshot eyes filled with regret and madness, letting out a piercing howl into the sky.

"Heavens! It’s unfair! You’re making our Sun family extinct!"

Only then did the soldiers understand that Sun Changji sacrificed his only daughter, raising her as a son, for a futile incense, leading her down this irredeemable path.

Ultimately, watching her die before his eyes, it was a punishment more brutal and complete than any other.

In another corner, Boss Wang and his remaining accomplice, who were lucky to escape, just coldly observed this human tragedy.

Their faces bore a sort of apathetic detachment, a stark, ironic contrast to Sun Changji’s heart-wrenching sorrow.

Yang Zhen’s brows furrowed tightly together; the tragedy before him caused a wave of physiological discomfort, but he was even more aware of his duties.

Although the massive threat of the sniper had been eliminated, the true instigator behind all this tragedy took advantage of those precious tens of seconds of chaos to successfully flee.

This battle wasn’t truly over yet.
