Chapter 166: Chapter 166: Not Divorcing

Vivian Lowell was stunned for a long time.

Julian Faulkner waited for a long time as well. It wasn’t until the smile on his face gradually faded that a hint of regret began to surface.

’Did I rush things?’

’Girls like romance, and today...’

In the room, he had lit the scented incense she always liked and even placed her favorite teddy bear by the head of the bed, but he just hadn’t had time to get roses.

’His confession was a bit hasty. She...’

As these thoughts ran through Julian Faulkner’s mind, he saw that Vivian Lowell wasn’t reacting. Fearing she would reject him, he said, "If you haven’t made up your mind, that’s okay. I can wait. I..."

Vivian Lowell snapped back to her senses.

In those few minutes, a myriad of thoughts had raced through her mind.

’Do I like Julian Faulkner?’

It took only a second for Vivian Lowell to understand her own heart. She did.

Otherwise, Julian Faulkner wouldn’t have been the first person she thought of before entering that small wooden cabin, nor would she have entrusted him with her final arrangements.

She knew that if something really happened to her, Julian Faulkner would absolutely do everything she had asked.

She trusted Julian Faulkner.

She also hoped that if these were truly her last few minutes before death, she could have a few more words with Julian Faulkner.

Vivian Lowell also thought about her past life.

In her past life, she hadn’t met Julian Faulkner. They had missed each other, and so many tragedies had befallen her. She was, in truth, afraid.

She was afraid that this life, too, would end up being all for naught, but she quickly came to her senses.

Julian Faulkner—the very real Julian Faulkner standing right in front of her. With him by her side, she could find the courage to face all her fears.

That evening, the Ferris wheel under the setting sun—Vivian Lowell had never forgotten it.

It was just as Julian Faulkner thought: girls do love romance. The preparations he made that day had truly touched Vivian Lowell’s heart.

She loved what he had prepared and had kept the memory close to her heart ever since.

That was the surprise Julian Faulkner had given her.

’She...’

Recalling her own reaction the day Julian Faulkner announced their marriage, she realized it wasn’t that she hadn’t thought about it. She was just afraid of reading too much into it, only to find it was all wishful thinking.

Mason Grant used to say he liked her often, giving her gifts and creating surprises. It wasn’t that Vivian Lowell was never touched, but it was merely an appreciation for how thoughtful Mason Grant was.

But Julian Faulkner was different.

Besides being moved by his preparations, Vivian Lowell had also been worried.

’Perhaps it was just a gesture, with no other meaning behind it. If she misinterpreted it, things would definitely become awkward between them.’

They were business partners, after all. Vivian Lowell felt it would be nice if they could maintain their subtle, delicate relationship.

It was like having a secret crush on someone.

’You secretly find a piece of candy, furtively eat it, and then carefully wonder if you were even supposed to eat that candy in the first place, and you worry.’

Who would have known?

After guarding her heart for so long, Vivian Lowell suddenly discovered...

That Julian Faulkner felt the same way she did.

They had a mutual crush on each other!

Now.

The moment Julian Faulkner began to speak, Vivian Lowell, having understood her own heart, immediately snapped out of her daze. She shook her head at him and said, "No, I don’t need to think about it anymore."

In that instant, Julian Faulkner tensed up. He pressed his lips together tightly, barely daring to breathe. He could only peek at Vivian Lowell from the corner of his eye, afraid she would reject him.

But in reality, Vivian Lowell did not reject Julian Faulkner.

She took Julian Faulkner’s hand, sat up, and leaned her head closer to his cheek. Then, she mumbled playfully, "Julian Faulkner, you’re too far away from me."

"I’m sick, I haven’t recovered yet. You’re so far away, it’s hard for me to tell you what I want to say. Can you come a little closer?"

Julian Faulkner’s body was a bit stiff, but after hearing Vivian Lowell’s words, his body reacted before his mind could, and he moved closer to her.

Then, Vivian Lowell brought her lips to Julian Faulkner’s ear and said softly, "Julian Faulkner, I can tell, you know. You’re a little nervous."

"Don’t be nervous. It’s not like I’m going to say anything bad. What I want to say is... um, I’ve actually thought about it. You’re a great guy, and I can say yes."

"But don’t get ahead of yourself. When I say yes, I mean I’m willing to try dating you. As for the wedding you mentioned, you’ll have to court me a little more before we talk about that again. What do you think?"

After saying this, Vivian Lowell felt she was being a little mean. To "compensate" Julian Faulkner, she took the opportunity to give him a light peck on the ear.

It was very light.

Just like Julian Faulkner’s kiss from before, the kind that was as brief as a dragonfly touching the water.

But because of that one touch, Julian Faulkner’s already taut body grew even more rigid, as if every string within him had been pulled tight.

An unknown amount of time passed.

Vivian Lowell had already laid back down on her pillow and was watching him by the time Julian Faulkner finally relaxed. He then gave her a sweet smile and said, "Okay."

"I promise, I’ll work hard. But if you ever decide you want to have the wedding, remember to tell me. I’ll have everything prepared."

"And then we can go abroad for our wedding, okay? Whether you want to be on a cruise ship, a yacht out at sea, or in a hot air balloon, anything is possible."

"As long as you can think of it and I can do it, I will do my best to make it happen."

Vivian Lowell looked at the way Julian Faulkner’s eyes curved into crescents when he smiled, thinking how handsome he was when he was being gentle. She said, "Mm, I’ll remember that."

"So, we’ve agreed then. We’re not getting divorced for now, right?"

Julian Faulkner nodded, turned, and walked to the desk. He opened a drawer, took out the divorce agreement they had drafted when they first got married, and walked over to the paper shredder.

The shredder started up, the divorce agreement was fed into it, and within moments, it was reduced to shreds.

Looking at the pile of shredded paper, Vivian Lowell found her mood inexplicably lifting.

’She and Julian Faulkner had come to an understanding. They weren’t getting a divorce for now. So that meant they were... mm, a couple now, right?’

’Thinking about it, it still felt pretty incredible.’

They say adversity reveals true feelings, and this time, they had truly lived it.

However, Vivian Lowell’s thoughts returned to the day’s events. She suddenly looked up at Julian Faulkner seriously and said, "Speaking of which, Vance Wyatt has already told me what happened today."

"Robert Lowell and Sharon Galahad’s deaths... they weren’t accidents, were they? They were silenced, weren’t they? Do you have any leads on who did it?"

"Actually... there’s someone I suspect."
