Kaijin Fighter: So I Have to Make Monsters, So What?

Chapter 1703: I am the Cannon

Chapter 1703: I am the Cannon

"Okay, if that’s the last of it, then we shall adjourn until —"

"Wait a minute," Lythero interjected before this impromptu meeting officially ended.

"I actually have a fairly important question to ask."

"Okay...ask away."

"How exactly are you going to send the kaijin on their merry way? Last I checked, the places you list off has a fairly long travel distance, even with flying involved. Do you have a hidden teleportation array in the library that you haven’t told us about?"

"Ah, that..."

Zhen Liu puffed his cheeks as he thought about whether or not it was a good idea to tell the others about what the curators had cooked up as a transportation system.

Especially since it was something that took inspiration from his own teleportation accident.

"Fuck it, let’s go," Zhen Liu declared after a few more minutes of thought. "I honestly think it’s kind of funny, but let me know what y’all think."

"Ominous ass..."

Understanding that Zhen Liu was messing with them, Lythero and the others decided to keep quiet until they learned the reason for Zhen Liu’s commentary.

Evidently, he wasn’t wrong about it, eliciting a negative reaction from some of the members of the group.

...How bad could it be?...

"Is...is that a cannon?" Jinju Ren asked, utterly flabbergasted for the first time in awhile. "The curators made you a transport system that is based on the reason why we’re on this continent in the first place?!"

"Yes," Zhen Liu nodded with a strange lack of interest. "I was a little annoyed about it too, but the idea had oddly grown on me."

Zhen Liu had led his friends and family to a part of the library that they never thought of visiting before: the rooftop.

One of the unspoken effects of spending time in a nearly infinite library was that one would forget that they were inside of a building that actually had a rooftop.

Well, rooftops.

The library had spires, and the curators had repurposed one to house something they designed and called the "Teleblaster."

It was essentially a giant FU cannon, but the payloads weren’t high-powered explosives, which is why it didn’t have a regular loading mechanism in the back.

The payloads were high-powered monsters, which is why the loading mechanism in the back looked more like arcane ritual that was built into the structure of a giant toy gun meant to shoot foam darts.

As to how the curators came up with this idea, they were undoubtedly inspired by the teleportation incident that had launched their lord like a high-powered baseball to another continent entirely.

It was a novel form of transport to the curators, and they noticed that despite being launched in such an explosive manner, the method was surprisingly effective in hiding the trails and traces of the launched.

A perfect way to move a whole bunch of kaijin or zakos without anyone else in the world know it happened in the first place.

At least, in theory.

Neither Zhen Liu nor the curators had actually fired the damn thing yet.

And in about a day or two, Zhen Liu was going to use the cannon to launch his kaijin to other parts of the world in a more controlled manner. Actually, perhaps the present would be a better time to leverage such a strange weapon.

"You know what? I just realized now would be a good time to demonstrate what this baby can do," Zhen Liu said with a stretch of his limbs. "I just need to call up the first party. RAGNAROCKERS, GET UP HERE!"

[Here!]

[You called, minn jarl?]

[Party Time!]

As soon as Zhen Liu put out the call for the kaijin to come to his assistance, the aforementioned Raganarockers appeared like ghostly knights and knelt right in front of Zhen Liu.

This sight was something the others had seen dozens of times in the past but was still shocking to see.

Simply due to how different Zhen Liu and his kaijin look, not only in comparison to each other but to the rest of the world as well.

"Alright, guys, I’m not going to give you another run down about where you’re heading and what you guys need to do, because telepathy is significantly faster..."

[Obviously.]

[Duh.]

[I can already see where this is going...]

"...which is why we’re just going to skip to the important part. I need y’all to get into the cannon."

[Of course.]

[Woo!]

As soon as those words came out of Zhen LIu’s mouth, the back of the cannon opened up, and a wave of [Chaos] washed over the room.

Compelled by the energy, Nepherage, Frosttusk, and Hurricroak all transformed into colorful motes the size of volleyballs before flying into the back of the cannon.

Once all three of the kaijin were loaded up, Zhen Liu walked over to the side of the cannon and placed a hand upon it.

This technically should’ve been the part where Logos and Pathos gave him the exact angle and trajectory he needed to fire off the kaijin in the right direction, but they had already primed all of that before Zhen Liu and his mortal companions had gotten to the cannon tower.

As such, all Zhen Liu had to do in this moment was power the cannon and fire.

"Alright! Hang on to your butts!" Zhen Liu declared as he began to pour [Chaos] and aether into the cannon.

The cannon began to whirr, spin, and hum with power as more and more energy filled whatever fuel components Logos and Pathos had cooked up for this cockamaimey contraption.

Evidently, the whirring activity caused everyone who wasn’t Zhen Liu to feel a little uneasy, so they all took involuntary steps backwards.

Shortly after they did, though, their cautious actions became justified.

"Looks like it’s fully charged...fire, Teleblaster!"

BOOM!

"Bwah!"

The cannon released a colorful explosion as a glowing ball of energy flew over the horizon towards the direction that Zhen Liu was assured was the Echoing Valley. The kickback from the cannon’s firing, however, was strong enough that Zhen Liu was knocked on his ass and sent flying several steps backwards.

As the colorful ball of energy flew through the air, there was a small expectation that the damn thing was going to explode before reaching its final destination. Thankfully, that didn’t happen.

Instead, as the colorful ball of energy kept flying forward, it eventually reached the horizon and disappeared.

The moment it did, an illusionary display appeared showing the energy ball’s flight path and its estimated time of arriving at the Echoing Valley.

Not that any of the mortals in the room cared to notice, at least for now.

They were all focusing on the fact that two of their group volunteered to go along with the idea of being sent flying with the kaijin.

Needless to say, the reactions to this revelation were sharply polarizing.

Jinju Ren was oddly hyped over the idea of being fired out of a giant magic cannon while accompanying the kaijin.

"Wait, would the kaijin act as my protective shield, or would I be expected to protect myself during the landing process?" Jinju Ren asked, only understanding that her fiancee was the only one that had any experience being fired like a high-powered projectile over a long distance.

As for Antonio, well...calling his reaction a panic attack would be generous to his pride as a man.

"Are you fucking kidding me right now?!" Antonio asked, the panic in his in voice being evident as he hid behind Lythero and Olstenna. "If you just wanted to kill me, there are probably less insane ways of doing it!"

Zhen Liu, for his part, simply stood up and directed his attention back to the cannon...mostly.

He still took time to make light of the situation for Antonio’s sake.

"Hey, I managed to survive getting blasted halfway across the planet, and that was by accident."

"You’re practically invincible!"

"Only mostly."

"I don’t know if I’m jealous that we won’t get to use the Teleblaster...or relieved that we won’t have to use it for our travel plans," Zhen Xing whispered to Zhen Tai.

"I’m still processing the fact that this entire situation is happening in the first place."

After a couple more moments of arguing and determining whether or not people were ultimately ready to be fired out of a magic cannon, Logos and Pathos poked their heads in to punch in the coordinates for the next two blasts.

Instead of setting it up per cannon shot, they figured it would be more efficient to just make it a firing sequence.

While this was happening, Zhen Liu summoned Mysticlassic and Judgememento(?) for their Teleblaster trips.

"Wait...I just realized something important," Lythero commented as the kaijin began to enter the cannon spire. "How can you be certain that their landing zones are going to be somewhere...not in the middle of enemy territory?"

"...are you seriously wondering if the kaijin care about safe zonzes?"

"...fair enough."

"Also, didn’t you promise that one kid you’d help him get back to Echoing Valley?"

"...fuck."
