Chapter 67: Chapter 43: 10 Sword Lights, Actual Demon Hunting Combat

Mu Xiaoyu breathed a sigh of relief.

However, she then saw Li Yinsheng chuckle and wave his hand, summoning twenty to thirty Sword Lights around him.

Mu Xiaoyu was speechless.

A month and a half later.

In front of the grand hall, Mu Xiaoyu and Li Yinsheng stood facing each other. She was no longer wielding the White Rainbow Sword, but rather the Cold Leaf Sword Li Yinsheng had given her previously.

A rich layer of azure gleam swirled over the Cold Leaf Sword. As she unleashed her Sword Technique, the azure gleam scattered from the blade, transforming into ten azure Sword Lights that shot straight toward Li Yinsheng.

Facing the ten approaching Sword Lights, Li Yinsheng simply pointed his index and middle fingers together, summoning a single pale azure Sword Light before him. In terms of color, his Sword Light was much lighter than Mu Xiaoyu’s. Or rather, it was much "clearer."

This was one of the characteristics of the Magical Power from the Qingxuan Scripture; as the number of Layers increased, the quality of the Magical Power grew higher, making it appear increasingly translucent and clear.

With a startled cry from Mu Xiaoyu, her attack comprised of ten Sword Lights was easily pierced by that single pale azure Sword Light, which had found a gap in her offense. The Sword Light landed on her body but didn’t cause any harm; it merely transformed into a gentle force that blew her backward, sending her crashing onto her rear.

"You’re cheating, Senior Brother!" Mu Xiaoyu sat on the ground, looking deeply aggrieved.

Li Yinsheng walked over and pulled her up. "Oh? How am I cheating?"

"Uh..." Mu Xiaoyu was momentarily at a loss for words. She could only puff out her cheeks to show her dissatisfaction.

She thought, "Detestable Senior Brother! He’s engaged me in Magical Combat every day this month, yet he hasn’t let me win even once!"

"Alright, alright, your performance today was quite good. Here, have a candied hawthorn stick," Li Yinsheng said, handing one to Mu Xiaoyu.

Although most of the snacks were kept in Mu Xiaoyu’s own Qiankun Bag, Li Yinsheng had also stored a few himself. Naturally, the majority of them ended up in Mu Xiaoyu’s stomach. She immediately took the treat, the annoyance on her face dissipating significantly.

Once Mu Xiaoyu finished her candied hawthorn, Li Yinsheng didn’t make her resume practicing her swordplay right away. Instead, he had her practice her cultivation exercises.

She was currently only at the Second Layer of the Qingxuan Scripture, so her Magical Power was still very meager. After their recent bout of Magical Combat, culminating in the simultaneous release of ten Sword Lights, her Magical Power had hit rock bottom. She needed to practice her exercises to recover for a while before she could continue her sword practice.

Li Yinsheng had already claimed the four years of Cultivation rewarded for achieving eight Sword Lights, and he had taken the opportunity to nourish the White Rainbow Sword for another four years. Unfortunately, an extra four years of nourishment still didn’t offer much help to the Spirituality within the sword. Moreover, as his junior sister mastered more and more Sword Lights, the White Rainbow Sword’s guidance noticeably slowed down.

Progressing from two Sword Lights to three only required a little over a day of practice. Going from three to four only took three days. However, going from four Sword Lights to the current ten had taken a full month and a half. To be precise, progressing from four to eight Sword Lights had only taken about twenty days in total; the remaining twenty-plus days were all spent on the ninth and tenth Sword Lights.

Furthermore, because he was also practicing the Yin Yang Light-Splitting Sword himself, he had noticed a pattern. Even though the power of the Sword Lights would increase whenever their quantity doubled, adding more Sword Lights afterward would become increasingly difficult.

At this rate, reaching sixteen Sword Lights would likely take another two months or so of practice. And once she reached sixteen Sword Lights, she might only be able to add one or two more per month.

This pace was already incredibly fast compared to the normal progression of learning the Light-Splitting Sword; at this rate, it would take her just over a year to master thirty-two Sword Lights. After all, she was practicing every day with a Daoist’s Lifebound Treasure. Not even a Daoist’s Cloth and Alms Bowl Successor could ever hope for such a privilege, even if this particular Lifebound Treasure was already severely damaged.

But what about later on?

After thirty-two Sword Lights, the difficulty would increase once again. By then, the White Rainbow Sword, which retained only twenty or thirty percent of its Spirituality, would offer significantly reduced assistance. It might end up taking over a month just to increase a single Sword Light. Calculating it this way, when the three-year period expired, they probably wouldn’t even reach the goal of sixty-four Sword Lights, much less the final tier of one hundred and twenty-eight.

Just as Li Yinsheng furrowed his brow in deep thought, his Divine Sense stirred, and he looked up toward the corner of the grand hall.

Junior Martial Uncle Jiang, dressed entirely in white, was walking over from the corridor. Li Yinsheng smoothed out his brow and walked toward his martial uncle with a smile.

After learning that he was a Daoist, his martial uncle seemed to have relaxed a bit and was no longer staying so secluded. Over the past month and a half, she would often visit the grand hall, either to chat with her martial nephew or to watch Mu Xiaoyu practice her swordplay and spar.

"Martial Uncle," Li Yinsheng greeted, cupping his hands in respect.

Junior Martial Uncle Jiang smiled and shook her head. "Let’s dispense with these empty formalities from now on. Among Daoists, we usually address each other as Fellow Daoists.

"Although you and I are both in the Xuanzhen Temple and still maintain our generational differences as martial uncle and martial nephew, there’s no longer any need for such hollow etiquette."

Li Yinsheng chuckled and shook his head. "I’ve gotten so used to it over the years. I’ll slowly change my habits later."

Junior Martial Uncle Jiang didn’t press the matter and changed the subject instead. "How is your junior sister progressing with the Light-Splitting Sword?"

Li Yinsheng looked over at Mu Xiaoyu. She had been practicing her exercises for a while, and her Magical Power had recovered quite a bit. "Junior Sister, it’s time to practice your swordplay."

With Li Yinsheng’s words, the White Rainbow Sword flew from his side and into Mu Xiaoyu’s hand.

"I know, Senior Brother!" She took the sword and only then noticed that Junior Martial Uncle Jiang was also present. She hurriedly pointed her sword downward and bowed in greeting. "You’re here too, Martial Uncle! Greetings, Martial Uncle!"

Junior Martial Uncle Jiang nodded slightly in acknowledgment, her gaze lingering on Mu Xiaoyu’s hands and the White Rainbow Sword for a brief moment. Afterward, Mu Xiaoyu began to practice the Light-Splitting Sword.

"What do you think, Martial Uncle?" Li Yinsheng asked.

"Though her technique is still exceedingly unpolished, for her to reach this level with her Root Device is quite decent. At the very least, it proves she hasn’t been slacking off," Junior Martial Uncle Jiang replied with a slight nod.
