Junior Sister, I Really Have to Control You

Chapter 50: Chapter 34: Soul Tempering Technique "Heart Seal Scripture
The next morning.
Li Yinsheng knocked on Junior Martial Uncle Jiang’s door. Up until now, he had kept the construction of the Spirit Refining Array a secret from her. In his Martial Uncle’s eyes, he should have given up on building the Array due to its exorbitant cost after they discussed it a few days ago. In reality, he had secretly gone to the most expensive Jade Altar Temple to place an order.
He couldn’t keep it from her forever; eventually, he had to confess. Besides, her initial reason for forbidding him from building the Array was to prevent him from going into debt. Now, with the compensation sent by the Yellow Crane Temple, he had paid the full amount upfront. It wasn’t really going against her wishes... right?
Whether he ripped the bandage off now or later, the outcome would be the same. He might as well confess early, especially since he still needed to ask his Martial Uncle for a Soul Tempering Technique. After hearing her voice, Li Yinsheng pushed the door open and entered, running his prepared opening remarks through his mind one last time.
"The Array was finished yesterday, wasn’t it? Does it work well?" Junior Martial Uncle Jiang asked with a smile, leaning against the headboard of her bed as she looked at Li Yinsheng.
Li Yinsheng froze, his footsteps faltering.
"Come here, Yin Sheng." Junior Martial Uncle Jiang patted the empty spot next to her. "Sit beside me."
Li Yinsheng took two steps forward but stopped in front of the bed.
"Come here, what are you afraid of?" she continued to smile. "Your Martial Uncle doesn’t eat children."
Steeling himself, Li Yinsheng sat down beside her. "Martial Uncle, you know everything?" he asked.
"I know a little," Junior Martial Uncle Jiang said. "These past few days, whenever you came to chat or help regulate and nourish my body, your state wasn’t quite right. I guessed something was up."
Li Yinsheng was somewhat surprised. "I thought I hid it pretty well. There shouldn’t have been any difference from my usual self."
"You hid it very well. I couldn’t see it at all." Junior Martial Uncle Jiang reached out and pinched his ear. "I felt it."
Li Yinsheng was speechless. He wondered how she could possibly feel something like that. It seemed a bit unreasonable!
"You really shouldn’t underestimate this former True Cultivator," Junior Martial Uncle Jiang lowered her hand, a faint smile touching her pale lips. "If I had to say, I still retain a tiny bit of my former prowess."
Li Yinsheng grumbled inwardly, wondering why he didn’t have this kind of intuition despite also being a Daoist.
"It’s not just that," Junior Martial Uncle Jiang said. "A few days ago, people from another Daoist Temple came by, right?"
"From the Yellow Crane Temple," Li Yinsheng nodded.
"Did their visit have to do with you?" she asked.
"You could say that," Li Yinsheng nodded again.
"Sigh..." Junior Martial Uncle Jiang raised her hand and extended her index finger, rhythmically poking Li Yinsheng’s forehead. "First you went behind my back to secretly borrow money to build an Array, and now you’ve brought the Yellow Crane Temple to our doorstep. Yin Sheng, you used to save me so much worry, didn’t you?"
"I handled everything perfectly this time, too," Li Yinsheng said, leaning his head back so her finger poked empty air.
"Oh?" Junior Martial Uncle Jiang didn’t quite believe him. "You don’t owe any money for that Array? And what exactly were the people from the Yellow Crane Temple here for?"
Li Yinsheng pondered for a few seconds, organizing his thoughts before giving a very solemn reply. "To make a long story short, the people from the Yellow Crane Temple paid off the Array for me, and there’s still a lot of money left over."
Sitting on the bed and looking at Li Yinsheng, a look of utter bewilderment slowly surfaced on Junior Martial Uncle Jiang’s pale, beautiful face.
A long time later.
Li Yinsheng recounted everything that had happened over the past few days in detail. He also took the opportunity to show off his spoils of war: the Upper Grade Magical Artifacts—the Cold Bright Sword and the Brass Incense Burner—along with the Silver Threaded Magical Robe, the Yellow Talisman Paper Cranes, and the Netting Magical Artifact, all of which were worth just as much, if not more, than an Upper Grade Magical Artifact.
With these items as proof, even though Junior Martial Uncle Jiang had repeatedly shown expressions that seemed to say, ’Yin Sheng, are you still dreaming,’ ’You tell great stories, Martial Nephew,’ and ’Don’t make me laugh’ throughout his tale, she eventually fell into a deep silence.
Brushing her fingertips over the Magical Artifacts displayed before the bed one by one, Junior Martial Uncle Jiang remained speechless for a long time. It wasn’t until Li Yinsheng called out to her softly that she finally looked up.
"I haven’t asked about your Cultivation all these years because I was afraid of adding unnecessary burdens on you. After all, you already carry enough pressure normally..." Her gaze was complex as she raised a hand to lightly punch Li Yinsheng’s shoulder. "Why didn’t you ever tell me yourself that you possessed this level of Cultivation?!"
Li Yinsheng thought to himself that he had only recently found out as well. Of course, based on his own perceived passage of time, it wasn’t exactly "recently." It felt more like a lifetime ago.
"I was also worried that constantly bringing up Cultivation in front of you, Martial Uncle, would poke at your sore spots," Li Yinsheng said.
This was the truth. It was the main reason he had never taken the initiative to talk about Cultivation with his Martial Uncle before. The secondary reason was that his actual Cultivation used to be quite poor, and he had nothing worth bragging about anyway.
Junior Martial Uncle Jiang waved her hand, signaling for Li Yinsheng to put away the evidence. Then she sniffled, her voice a bit muffled. "Yin Sheng, go outside for a while. Try to walk a bit further away..."
Li Yinsheng nodded, getting up and pushing the door open to leave.
"You are not allowed to use your Divine Sense to peek!" Junior Martial Uncle Jiang shouted from behind him just as he was closing the door.
An hour later.
After using this time to drag Mu Xiaoyu out of bed and make her cultivate, Li Yinsheng returned to his Martial Uncle’s door. He knocked.
"Come in, Yin Sheng," Junior Martial Uncle Jiang’s calm voice sounded.
Li Yinsheng pushed the door open and entered. Junior Martial Uncle Jiang was still sitting on the bed, but the rims of her eyes and the tip of her nose were completely red. To save his Martial Uncle’s pride, he pretended not to notice. Looking straight ahead, he walked right over and sat down beside her.
"I just cried for a bit," Junior Martial Uncle Jiang spoke softly.
"I originally didn’t want you to know. It’s a bit embarrassing," she added, gently holding Li Yinsheng’s hand. "But looking like this, I couldn’t hide it anyway."
