Chapter 1715: Mediocre?
Chapter 1715: Mediocre?
Wang Wei thought he would have to wait for a long time, but the array screen showed that all the Tribunal Lords suddenly raised their heads and looked at something. Wang Wei tried to figure out what had caught their attention, but he was clueless.
"Do you know what’s going on?"
"No," Maitreya shook her head. "But for a brief moment, I felt my life was in danger."
"In danger?" Wang Wei frowned. He didn’t feel anything, which only made him sigh. The difference between [Immortals] and [Saints] was too vast.
"Someone probably took action — most likely the Highest Sovereign," Maitreya commented.
"It seems Grand Dao kept her part of the bargain," Wang Wei muttered. The first major step of this expedition has been completed. Now, everybody — mostly the Tribunal Saints — was reassured that they could continue without any significant issues. Then, as expected, these lords immediately started attacking the enemy’s array.
Wang Wei was quiet; it was not because of how powerful these attacks were — he wished it were. His silence was once again due to the sheer difference. Through the array, he saw a white light before everything ended. The attacks were not only too fast for him to observe, but he also couldn’t even comprehend what was happening.
A gentle hand landed on his shoulder: "No need to beat yourself since even I can’t understand. And with your talent, you’re going to get there one day."
"I’m not that fragile, but thank you," Wang Wei smiled. Situations such as this only reinforced his desire to continue his cultivation journey. One day, all these people will also look at him with awe, reverence, and confusion.
"Something suddenly occurred to me," Wang Wei changed the topic. "What makes Saint’s Dao different?" He knew that only after reaching the second-step powerhouse would a Saint be focused on evolving their Grand Dao Source into a Dao Quintessence. But what about Primordial Saints? And how does Tribunal Saint cultivate to achieve a Dao Quintessence?
"We analyze how the Grand Dao placed restrictions or rules using certain Laws as inspiration and try to mimic them."
"I see," Wang Wei nodded in understanding. One of the most common restrictions of the Chaos Universe is the ten times acceleration limit. After Wang Wei sanctified, he could analyze how the Grand Dao achieved such a feat and learn from it, thereby elevating his understanding and application of the Time Grand Dao Source to a higher level.
"I’m assuming the Grand Constructs are a great guide as well?"
"Yes and no," Maitreya replied, surprising Wang Wei. "We can forcefully usurp higher authority from these Grand Constructs, and Grand Dao will ignore everything as long as it’s only used for battles or other purposes. However, as soon as someone tries to study its essence, there will be all kinds of troubles."
Wang Wei groaned. "With how Grand Dao operates, will the Transcendent Age truly be a golden era of opportunity as everybody thinks it will be?" From Wang Wei’s analysis, all signs indicate Grand Dao has a specific design for how the Transcendent Age will take form, and from what Wang Wei has deduced, ninety-nine percent of Saints — including him — will not be happy about the outcome.
"No matter what, it will never be as bad as the Pre-Ultimate Taboo Era," Maitreya reassured.
"Is that true, or something everybody hopes to be true? Moreover, we haven’t survived that era, so the transition might feel like going from a decent cultivation environment to a terrible one."
"No need to be pessimistic," Maitreya added. "No matter what Grand Dao plans, its purpose is to cultivate strong cultivators. And she should understand by now that an oppressive environment is not progressive to that goal."
"I wish I had more hope in people like you," Wang Wei sighed. Although Grand Dao does not have emotions, she has certain base instincts: the primary one of which is to improve. After what happened with the Primeval Body Mansion, she probably gained the second instinct: prevent severe loss. The creation of a [True Transcendent] can have immense benefit, but it could also lead to the destruction of the Chaos Universe.
So far, all signs show that Grand Dao is operating under a strict guideline of doing whatever is necessary to ensure the next [True Transcendent] benefits instead of harming the universe. And if she has to suppress countless cultivators and make their lives more difficult, she doesn’t appear to care.
"Hmm? Something finally happened?"
After countless attacks, the Infinite Court’s formation — which had remained unaffected for so long — finally had some reaction. Four individuals stepped out: an enormous demonic lion with nine heads, a woman in red clothes sitting on top of a massive gourd, a towering Barbarian — which Wang Wei identified by the latter’s clothes — and lastly, a black and white dragon.
’Quite the diverse group,’ Wang Wei thought, but this should be expected of the Infinite Divine Court.
"It seems the formation cannot withstand the strength of nine Tribunal Lords," Maitreya commented.
"There are supposed to be six. Four showed up; one should remain to control the formation. What about the last one?" Wang Wei asked.
"That’s an important question, isn’t it?"
"I don’t feel safe."
"If the sixth Tribunal Lord attacks, our side will prevent it."
"They could barely detect the other person, so how can you be sure they will be able to sense it in time to protect us? Plus, I’m not too happy with leaving my life in the hopes of these people."
"Don’t you think I understand this? But, what else can we do in this situation?" Maitreya asked with a helpless smile. Even the lives of Primordial Chaos Saints are in danger in this mission because they could also die due to the [Existence Hierarchy]. Although there are techniques that can block this rule, Maitreya certainly did not have one.
Only a few truly exceptional Saints have such techniques, and while she eventually has a chance to create one, she has spent most of her time working on her weak foundation, leaving little time to even attempt creation.
"I must at least try something," Wang Wei sighed before summoning two Primordial Saints: Ancestor Qin and Heart Array — both of whom are considered Old Saints with 10 foundation pillars. After entering the room, they saluted Maitreya but only nodded to Wang Wei.
"I’m about to share some sensitive information with you," Wang Wei said calmly. He understood that there was a high chance that these people would not take his order seriously, but luckily, he knew how to deal with them.
"One of the enemy’s Tribunal Lords has an excellent hiding method and might attack our base."
The two Saints frowned. They knew of the current battle situation. Four of their powerhouses were locked in an equal battle — well, as far as they can tell — while the remaining five have been trying to tear open the enemy’s array. But was there a hidden Tribunal Lord?
"Our safety is on the line, so we must do something."
"What exactly do you expect us to do in this situation?" Ancestor Qin asked with the same wry smile and helplessness as Maitreya.
"I remember you two are good at formation?"
"You want us to create an array capable of stopping a Tribunal Saint?"
"Is it possible?" Wang Wei asked.
"If we were home, there is a small chance to set up an array that borrows the strength of the Critical Hit Path with such power. But even such an array requires countless rare materials," Rune Grave Saint shook his head.
"You want material? There are countless Chaos Worlds for you to use. You want a higher power as a medium? There are six artificial Grand Constructs. You want inspiration? There is the enemy’s array as a guide. You want manpower? There are hundreds of Primordial Saints available. With all these advantages, don’t tell me you really can’t do something?"
"That array is beyond my understanding," Rune Grave Saint. "And with all these things you said, I can at most create a top first-step array."
’Are those people really that mediocre?’ Wang Wei thought to himself. He believes with all his heart that if his wife or Tong Ruobing had the same cultivation as these people, they would be able to achieve his goal.
’Have I given these Old Saints too much credit?’ He assumed that, since these people managed to be sanctified in such a terrible environment, all of them were brilliant. ’Maybe my requirements are too harsh.’
"What about an array that can hold a few strikes from a second step? It needs to be long enough for the Tribunal Lords to come save us."
"I’m sorry," Rune Grave shook his head.
"There might be a way if we had a Source Chaos World, but they have all been taken," Ancestor Qin added.
"Source Chaos Worlds? We can artificially manufacture one, can’t we?" Wang Wei asked, looking at Maitreya.
"It’s possible," she nodded. After reading the Supreme Unity and Hongjun’s Soul Transcendent Method, she has profound knowledge about the Heavenly Dao of Source Chaos Worlds.
"Excellent," Wang Wei smiled. In fact, even if not for this situation, he would have tried to artificially create a Source Chaos World since it involved surviving his Time Nexus.
