Chapter 1682: Power Position
Chapter 1682: Power Position
"There is a reason these Old Saints, as you called them, have a terrible relationship with Grand Dao," Old Ye commented. The world must change, evolve, and progress, but the issue is that the Grand Dao often does not care how such changes affect those standing at the pinnacle of power.
"That’s such a dangerous approach," Wang Wei uttered. If these positions become crucial to these Saints, then it’s only a matter of time before they start killing the position holders. Even if they cannot directly use it, they can have their descendants or subordinates – whom they can secretly or directly control — use it, train these people to their levels, and take the position.
"Hopefully, Grand Dao solves this issue without causing damage to the position holders or allowing these Saints to cause chaos," Old Ye shrugged.
"Hopefully," Wang Wei nodded before frowning. "I just thought of something. Wasn’t the Taboo Battle Realm also created during the Paragon Age?"
Old Man Ye looked at him. "It seems you know about the Critical Hit Path."
"Yes, and without the taboo Battle Realm, wouldn’t these Old Saints be banned from accessing it?"
"You would think so," Old Ye responded as he caressed his bear. "But we’ve confirmed that they can utilize it. As to the reason why, we have no idea."
"So, I was right: the Critical Hit Path is a form of control," Wang Wei sneered. The only reason he could think of for Grand Dao allowing these Saints to use that thing, despite how she had treated them previously, was as a means of control.
"Your way of thinking is too negative."
"Am I wrong?"
"You are, well, at least, partially."
"What do you mean?"
"If you want me to keep talking, you need to pay more."
Wang Wei thought briefly before handing over information about the [Observer] and [Perfection]. Old Ye swiftly perused the information talisman. "Fascinating. We had been aware of the Observer, and we also learned some information about another entity of equal standing, but we didn’t know it was called [Perfection]. It finally clicks why there is such a taboo."
"Focus, old man, what were you going to say?"
"Do you know about the taboo called the Abomination?"
"More than you would think."
"We have theorized that the creature originated from whatever realm, world, dimension, or space-time that all transcendents head to. Grand Dao created the Critical Hit Path after the creature’s invasion, most likely fearing and preparing for others to invade."
"An invasion-preparation method? I could see that," Wang Wei commented. If all the people from the Chaos Universe could use the Critical Hit Path to boost their strength, but the invaders could not, they would have an overwhelming advantage.
"Alright, I’ve been out for too long. It’s time to leave."
"Hold on, I only have two more questions," Wang Wei hurriedly said.
"Keep it short."
"Do you know of the Highest Sovereign?"
Old Ye nodded. "While our study of the Infinite Trichiliocosm is subpar, we have heard of the Infinite Divine Court and its ruler."
"By any chance, you wouldn’t happen to know what his Dao is?"
"I don’t," Old Ye responded. Such information is probably the highest secret of the Infinite Divine Court. If their society even dared to think about finding out, they would probably receive a terrifying blow as soon as they leave the Primordial Timeline.
"In that case, what about the Primeval Body Mansion? They must have a Grand Dao Saint, right? What’s their Dao?"
"That’s more than two questions."
"It’s the last one, I promise."
"If you want to know, pay more."
Wang Wei did not hesitate to hand over more information about the confrontation between Perfection and Grand Dao.
"Not bad," Old Ye nodded. "We’ve confirmed at least one Grand Dao Saint in the mansion, and they didn’t follow the True Power Dao Realm. Instead, they used the Power Dao."
"If I remember correctly, no one has ever seen the Power Position holder," Wang Wei commented. He’s been keeping an eye on his other ancestor, Wang Guo, the Heaven Opening Emperor, so he knew the latter had been searching for the owner of that position for years.
"It’s hard to say whether there is a correlation since we don’t know when that Saint reached that level," Old Ye shrugged. If the mansion’s Grand Dao Saint reached that level during the Paragon Age, the chances of them capturing the power holder are high. If it’s before, there is still a possibility, but it’s not as high.
"Is that all?"
"Yes," Wang Wei nodded. Although he wanted to keep the conversation flowing, he understood now was not the time.
"Good. In that case, I’ll see you at the meeting."
"Wait."
"Boy–"
"I just want to tell you that I’m taking this world," Wang Wei swiftly explained.
"Do as you wish," Old Ye waved his hand before disappearing. His real body opened his eyes in a secure location. "What an interesting guy," Old Ye said with a smile. With such a talented individual, the society is bound to become livelier. As he was thinking about his meeting with Wang Wei, he suddenly paused:
"Hmm? Why can’t I remember how he passed the trial? Damn it, did that bastard secretly wipe my memory?" He raised his hand to cast a spell, trying to retrieve that lost memory, but it was useless. Old Ye tried a few dozen more methods, but all with the same result.
"Was there some kind of secret in his method? Now, I’m intrigued."
Pure Inferno World:
"Sorry, old man, but this method might be the key to resources in the Saint Realm. I can’t let it slip out for now," Wang Wei murmured. If his theory about resource scarcity proves true, then his idea will become a hundred times more valuable. With a wave of his hand, the entire world suddenly shrank to the size of a cube that Wang Wei put away.
As he stood in Primordial Chaos, the river of time materialized, and with a snap of his finger, Wang Wei erased the actions he took during the trial. Then, the river turned into countless runes, forming a Cross-World Transmission Array. Using time and space, the infinite primordial chaos became finite, followed by a potent twist of space-time, allowing Wang Wei to instantly return home with one step. As soon as he left, Maitreya’s power descended in this area and did an even better job than he did. Unless Grand Dao herself tried, no one could retrieve that information from the river of time, and even Grand Dao may not succeed.
"Hmm?" Wang Wei immediately noticed something strange: there were people and even bases already constructed outside of the Eternal Ascension World’s world shield. ’These people have already arrived?’ Foreign intervention was inevitable, and everybody was already prepared. However, the news of the counterattack may have accelerated the process.
’Time is running out,’ Wang Wei thought. The Eternal Ascension World needs to give birth to a true Saint before these foreign powers truly intervene and start competing for the luck and destiny of the upcoming Transcendent Age. In other words, time was running out for Wu Hong, who had the highest possibility of success.
Wang Wei observed these people while they also observed him. A few even wanted to intercept him, but their danger sense immediately went into overdrive, so they stopped. Meanwhile, Wang Wei was about to return home when he noticed someone: Bohui and the Nine Heaven Paragon.
’Hmm? He looks different. I can’t observe his [Existence]? Did he encounter a Saint in a short period? Is it someone from the Fiendgod race? It would make sense that they have a Saint, probably someone who participated in the Ultimate Taboo... Wait, something doesn’t add up. If Bohui is someone’s clone, would the Fiendgod Race notice this and deal with him?’
There are two ways to explain the situation: either the person who helped Bohui hide his [Existence] is a foreign Saint working or aiding him, or the Fiendgod Race Saint is responsible for his existence. ’Either possibility is viable. Their race is in decline, so it would make sense that their Saints are trying something new to revitalize their luck. Regardless of the truth, I need to keep my eyes on this Bohui.’
Wang Wei calmly passed through the world protection barrier, but he immediately noticed an anomaly: he did not return home immediately. Instead, he found himself in this white space, and before he could react, a powerful will started scanning his body.
’Is this the Hong Protective System under Heavenly Dao’s control? It wasn’t this active or thorough before I left.’ He resisted the uncomfortable feeling and allowed the scan to proceed. Finally, he descended into the world. "Ah, home," Wang Wei muttered as he absorbed the familiar Dao Qi. He did not think he was the kind of person to get homesick, but there was no greater feeling than staying in his birth dimension. The next destination was the court where his main body was retreating, and as soon as they fused, Wang Wei opened his eyes.
