Invincible through Touching Corpses

Chapter 741 - 711: Influencing the Battle Situation (Part 2)

Chen Yushi didn’t concern himself with what the other party thought. He had already reported everything he needed to, so what happened next was up to headquarters.

After ending the call, the three immediately began hunting Abyssal Creatures to acquire Blood Bags, trying to make up for the time they had just wasted.

To prepare for the possibility of constantly rushing from one rescue to the next, the three went all out. They didn’t care about being wasteful; they maximized their hunting speed, collecting Blood Bags seven or eight times faster than before.

Under these conditions, the rate at which they could absorb Blood Bags definitely couldn’t keep up with their hunting rate.

If a Blood Bag wasn’t absorbed immediately, the Blood Qi Power within would continuously evaporate, dissipating completely in just half an hour.

But Lin Xinghai and the others no longer cared. ’So what if some of it evaporates?’ The most important thing for them now was to save time.

Of course, they weren’t just endlessly collecting Blood Bags. After a brief discussion, they decided to limit their collected stock to 100 at a time.

Between the three of them, they could absorb 8 Blood Bags per minute, meaning 80 in ten minutes.

Furthermore, the Blood Bags would constantly be evaporating during this time. So, they estimated that 100 Blood Bags would only last them about ten minutes of absorption.

Even if they didn’t start absorbing a Blood Bag until ten minutes later, it would still retain at least two-thirds of its Blood Qi Power, so it wasn’t a complete waste.

This was the only way they could manage to both fight and continue their Cultivation without neglecting either during the high-intensity battles that likely lay ahead.

Just as they had gathered nearly 50 Blood Bags, Chen Yushi’s Communication Device rang again.

He answered it without hesitation. "What are the military’s arrangements?"

"General Chen, I need to confirm with you one last time," Tang Xingbang said in a serious tone. "Is your rescue squad truly confident it can reach any location in Zone C within three minutes and end the fight in under a minute?"

"Let me correct you on one point," Chen Yushi said. "We’re only confident of finishing the fight in under a minute if we’re up against five or fewer Mutated Zombies."

Tang Xingbang: "..."

In the end, Tang Xingbang corrected himself and repeated the question.

After all, these calls were being recorded. He didn’t think they would ever face that many Mutated Zombies at once, but when precision was required, precision was required.

"I confirm that our rescue squad can do it," Chen Yushi replied formally. "We’ll have no problem maintaining that pace for at least the next two hours."

"Excellent! In that case, I’ll pass this on to my superiors. From now on, your team will be responsible for all rescue operations in Zone C. We’ll also leave one squad behind to assist you," Tang Xingbang said.

Once both sides had confirmed the plan, there was nothing left to discuss. The number of distress calls Zuo Wenyao’s team received began to skyrocket.

Previously, if they were lucky, they might go ten-plus minutes without a single rescue mission. Even on an unlucky streak, they would still get five or six minutes of rest between calls.

But now that they were responsible for all of Zone C, they were receiving a new rescue mission every three minutes on average.

And that three-minute window wasn’t their rest time; it included travel, hunting the Fourth Level Mutated Zombie, and everything in between.

Fortunately, their luck turned. From then on, every rescue mission only required them to kill a single Fourth Level Mutated Zombie.

Moreover, some of the rescue locations weren’t far. Because of this, their average rescue time was an astonishing one minute.

They could use the remaining time to hunt Abyssal Creatures and collect Blood Bags.

At first, the military didn’t dare to entrust the entirety of Zone C to Zuo Wenyao’s single rescue squad.

So, of the ten squads originally assigned to Zone C, they only transferred half of them away, leaving four squads behind to assist Zuo Wenyao’s team.

This was a precaution, a way to gradually transition responsibilities while seeing if Zuo Wenyao’s team truly had the capabilities they claimed.

The results were self-evident. Even with Zuo Wenyao’s squad responsible for all of Zone C, their response times were somehow even faster.

Tang Xingbang ran the numbers. He found that even their *slowest* response time was still under one minute.

This speed left Tang Xingbang dumbfounded. He simply couldn’t comprehend how they were doing it.

Of course, in their Time Acceleration State, what was one minute for everyone else was a full ten minutes for Zuo Wenyao and his team.

That was more than enough time for them to reach any corner of Zone C.

Of course, their most important contribution wasn’t their arrival speed, but their ability to kill the Fourth Level Mutated Zombies with a 100% success rate.

A typical rescue squad, even if they arrived in time, wasn’t guaranteed to kill the Mutated Zombie. The most likely outcome was that they would only injure it, unable to prevent its escape.

This couldn’t really be helped. After all, a Fourth Level Mutated Zombie—especially one with high Defense Power—was incredibly difficult to kill when it was focused on escaping.

Therefore, the fact that Zuo Wenyao’s team could arrive so rapidly and maintain a 100% kill rate against Fourth Level Mutated Zombies was starting to affect the entire course of the battle.

Zuo Wenyao’s team was incredibly efficient. In just half an hour, they had killed a total of ten Fourth Level Mutated Zombies.

That number might not sound impressive, but it was actually equal to the combined total of all the other extermination squads in Zone C.

Keep in mind, the other squads tasked with clearing out Fourth Level Mutated Zombies were all led by experts at the Divine Demon Realm, and even they required support from a vast array of military-grade weapons to accomplish their task.

So when these results were compiled, the entire General Staff was stunned.

Moreover, that wasn’t the only contribution Lin Xinghai’s team had made in the last half hour.

While Zuo Wenyao and Chen Yushi handled the Fourth Level Mutated Zombies, Lin Xinghai didn’t let a single one of the First, Second, or Third Level Mutated Zombies they encountered escape.

Because their rescue missions had them dashing all over Zone C, they passed through many areas and encountered even more Mutated Zombies.

On basically every trip to a rescue point, Lin Xinghai would kill twenty to thirty Mutated Zombies along the way. After ten such trips, he had killed a grand total of 260 Mutated Zombies.

With the Abyssal Passage blocked, every Mutated Zombie killed was one less they had to face. In just half an hour, thanks to the overwhelming killing power of Lin Xinghai and his team, the entire strategic situation in Zone C had undergone a fundamental change.

Originally, the military had only a slight advantage, but it was a limited one. As a result, they had to pay a heavy price for every Mutated Zombie they killed.

According to the General Staff’s original projections, even if the military won this battle, their casualty rate would likely be as high as forty percent.

But now, thanks to Lin Xinghai’s overwhelming intervention and the large number of Mutated Zombies he’d killed in half an hour, the military was able to free up a large number of troops and rapidly establish a significant local advantage.

Once that advantage was established, they could achieve greater results at a much lower cost.

After just half an hour, the General Staff ran their projections again based on the new conditions. They were shocked to find that the projected casualty rate for their eventual victory had plummeted from the original forty percent down to thirty percent.

And as long as Lin Xinghai and his team continued their overwhelming slaughter, that number could be reduced even further.
