Invincible through Touching Corpses

Chapter 697 - 667: Reinforcements and Fierce Battle (Part 1)

Inside the Trap District, all the student teams were fleeing in a panic.

Although these student teams had mentally prepared themselves for any potential crises before coming here.

In their minds, the worst-case scenario was merely encountering a Fourth Level Mutated Zombie. Under those circumstances, they believed they could use the threat of a Cloud Burst Bomb to escape.

However, the scene unfolding before them was completely beyond their imagination. The once-scattered Mutated Zombies and Abyssal Creatures were now gathering in an orderly fashion, as if guided by an invisible hand, to launch a coordinated attack.

After all, forget the Mutated Zombies—even dealing with a horde of one or two hundred Abyssal Creatures alone was a major struggle for them. Against four or five hundred, many average teams would likely be wiped out.

And now, facing a massive force numbering one or two thousand, reinforced by Mutated Zombies, even the most elite teams could only be routed.

It was true that these students were, at a minimum, Blood Qi Realm Martial Artists capable of quickly dispatching Abyssal Corpse Ghosts. But that was only under normal circumstances.

Now, aided by the venom of the Spitters, the Abyssal Corpse Ghosts had entered a berserk state. With their Power, Speed, and other attributes doubled, killing them quickly was no longer an easy task.

Moreover, the Spitters weren’t the only support creatures. Even more nauseating to the students were the Blood Worms. These creatures could release hordes of Blood-colored Beetles that clung to the Abyssal Corpse Ghosts. This meant that when attacking the Abyssal Corpse Ghosts, the students also had to watch out for these thumb-sized pests.

After all, the Blood-colored Beetles had paper-thin defenses and could be crushed with a single blow.

The problem was that these little things moved incredibly fast. Even more terrifying, their mandibles were so sharp they could bite straight through standard high-grade alloys.

Therefore, a Blood Qi Realm Martial Artist without any protection would have a chunk of flesh torn right off.

What was even more horrifying was that these Blood-colored Beetles would burrow directly into a person’s body. Once they got inside, it was a one-way ticket to death.

The best way to deal with the Blood-colored Beetles, therefore, was to coat one’s body in a protective layer of Blood Qi Power, which would repel them on contact.

The problem, however, was that maintaining this defense consumed a tremendous amount of Blood Qi Power.

As if that weren’t enough, there were other problems. The biggest headache came from the Petrifying Spiders in the distance, which relentlessly launched ranged attacks by spitting silk.

The Petrifying Spider Silk they spat out had power comparable to that of a standard handgun bullet.

Although a Blood Qi Realm Martial Artist could block a standard handgun bullet, that only applied to a few shots.

But now, with thousands of Petrifying Spiders attacking in unison, a sky-blotting barrage of Petrifying Spider Silk rained down on them. The Blood Qi Realm students were overwhelmed, and casualties quickly began to mount.

Fortunately, the students who had qualified to be here were not fools. They didn’t understand why the forces from the Abyssal Plane had launched such a terrifying assault, but after the initial panic subsided, they quickly made the correct decision.

They decided to either rendezvous with nearby teams as quickly as possible or find a defensible position to hold out and wait for rescue.

No one doubted that the military would take action immediately.

But faced with such a ferocious offensive, no one was sure they would survive long enough for reinforcements to arrive.

Just as terror began to grip the students, they suddenly heard the roar of engines from the sky. It was a continuous, overlapping sound, clearly more than just one or two aircraft.

"Reinforcements! It has to be reinforcements from the military! We’re saved!" someone shouted in excitement.

The other members of his team also broke into expressions of joyous relief.

Then they heard the sound rapidly approaching, followed by a piercing shriek from high above.

It sounded like something was being dropped from a great height.

"Are they... Are they actually dropping bombs?" a team member whispered.

"Could be! Everyone, get down! Use your Blood Qi Power to protect yourselves!" the squad leader shouted.

At the same time, he kept his eyes glued to the sky.

In truth, as a Body Shaping Realm Late Stage expert, he wasn’t particularly afraid of conventional bombs. Unless one landed directly on his head, it would be difficult to cause him any real harm. Of course, a high-yield weapon like an air-to-ground missile was another matter entirely.

But he trusted the military wouldn’t do that. They would more likely drop something like Mortar shells to clear out large numbers of Abyssal Creatures.

But he quickly realized he was wrong. The objects plummeting from the sky were three to four meters wide and over five meters tall.

As they fell, the objects emitted a thick white vapor. When this vapor came into contact with the green toxic fog, a violent chemical reaction seemed to occur, and in an instant, the two mists neutralized each other.

When they were just a hundred meters from the ground, the massive objects stopped emitting vapor in all directions. Instead, they concentrated the jets downward, using the thrust to stabilize their descent.

With the white vapor having neutralized a large amount of the green toxic fog, visibility in the area improved significantly. With the enhanced eyesight of a Blood Qi Realm Martial Artist, it was now possible to see things over a hundred meters away.

It was then that everyone realized what was falling from the sky: Mechas.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

A series of deafening crashes echoed as the Mechas slammed down onto the street, the impacts spiderwebbing the pavement with massive cracks.

But this was nothing to the Mechas. They landed and began moving almost without pause, quickly converging on a Rare Level Mecha that seemed to be their leader.

The squad leader, who was prone on a balcony, scanned the area and saw, to his astonishment, at least a hundred Mechas within his field of view.

One or two Mechas might not have made a huge difference on this battlefield, but when their numbers reached a critical mass, their effectiveness underwent a qualitative transformation.

This was especially true when the Mechas could operate with practiced coordination, causing their combat effectiveness to skyrocket.

And that was precisely the case here. The hundred or so Mechas were clearly from the same battalion. They had trained together for a long time, and even their modifications were designed for teamwork.

After the hundred Mechas converged, the 30 on the outer perimeter instantly drew two door-sized Alloy Giant Shields from their backs, forming a solid wall that completely protected the Mechas behind them.

Of the remaining 70 Mechas, half had their palms split open to reveal the dark muzzles of internal cannons. Both arms of these Mechas had been modified into Vulcan miniguns. With a firing rate of 3,600 rounds per minute, they could unleash absolute suppressive fire.

The other half of the Mechas unslung the rapid-fire cannons from their backs. Shell after shell launched forth, blanketing the surrounding Abyssal Creatures in an indiscriminate barrage of fire.
