Invincible through Touching Corpses
Chapter 622 - 599: Terrifying Abyssal Creatures
Generally speaking, these Abyssal Creatures were about ten times as strong as Zombies.
In other words, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to consider them a medium-sized Zombie horde of 50,000.
What was even more terrifying was the presence of a "Spitter." It could send the other Abyssal Creatures into a berserk state, increasing all their Attributes by 100%. Under those circumstances, the power these Abyssal Creatures could unleash would be absolutely horrifying.
Of course, the biggest headache was the "Death Claw."
According to the intel, this "Death Claw" was at the Second Level Middle Stage, equivalent to a human’s Body Shaping Realm Middle Stage.
With the "Spitter’s" venom to help it go berserk, its power could rise by another Small Realm to reach the Second Level Late Stage.
A "Death Claw" that reached this Realm was already terrifying. Generally, it would take at least an expert at the Body Shaping Realm Late Stage, plus a Rare Level Mecha, to have a solid chance of winning.
Of course, if the Rare Level Mecha was powerful enough, even someone at the Body Shaping Realm Middle Stage could win.
Little Fatty believed that with Lin Xinghai piloting the Rare Level Mecha, which had been modified multiple times by the Hongyu Group, defeating the "Death Claw" wouldn’t be an issue.
The problem was, the "Death Claw" wasn’t alone on the battlefield.
’If Lin Xinghai fights the Death Claw, what about the Spitter?’
’And all the other Abyssal Creatures... they won’t just stand by and watch the show!’
"Don’t worry. The difficulty of this mission is within my control. Right now, we should be thinking about how to reach Outpost 231 quickly, not how we’re going to fight," Lin Xinghai said calmly.
Little Fatty was instantly relieved. He patted his plump chest and said, "You can rest easy too, Boss. I started preparing last night as soon as I heard we were reinforcing the 11th Abyssal Passage. Our Armored Vehicle is better than any other team’s. We’ll definitely get there in time."
Hearing this, Lin Xinghai raised an eyebrow, a hint of anticipation growing within him.
...
「Meanwhile, at Outpost 231」
The outpost was suffering a tremendously violent assault. Outpost 231 was built around a relatively sturdy residential building, its outer walls mounted with over fifty automated Heavy Machine Guns.
Under the control of an AI system, these fifty-plus automated Heavy Machine Guns could form five massive nets of fire, blanketing enemies attacking from all directions.
Furthermore, Combat Robots were stationed in the trenches outside the outpost and at all the critical entry points. In addition to being equipped with conventional weapons, these Combat Robots had been specially fitted with internal High-Energy Bombs.
This gave them a last-resort option for mutual destruction if they were overwhelmed.
In the sky above, more than 300 Attack Drones were ready to provide rapid and ample fire support to any part of the battlefield.
With such a setup, plus the hundred or so soldiers stationed there, they should have been able to hold out for at least half an hour against a Zombie horde of over 100,000.
Yet now, besieged by over 5,000 Abyssal Creatures, the expressions on their faces were grimmer than ever before.
BOOM!
An Abyssal Corpse Ghost, crawling low to the ground through a hail of bullets, reached the edge of a trench and leaped down, pouncing on a Combat Robot.
Already in a berserk state, its movements were incredibly agile. With a single slash of the spike protruding from its elbow, it split the Combat Robot’s electronic head in two.
At the same time, it lashed out with a right leg covered in a thick keratinous layer. The chest plate of another nearby Combat Robot instantly caved in, spewing a shower of sparks.
After its two swift attacks, it lunged to the side without pausing, dodging the self-destruct shockwave from the first two Combat Robots as it charged a third.
Just as it was about to repeat the tactic and destroy the third Combat Robot, the machine, controlled by the AI system, preemptively detonated its internal High-Energy Bomb.
The violent explosion not only engulfed the Abyssal Corpse Ghost but also the two nearby Combat Robots that had been firing relentlessly.
However, the AI system never made mistakes in this regard. The two Combat Robots leaped out almost simultaneously, intercepting two other Abyssal Corpse Ghosts that had charged straight into the trench, and detonated their own High-Energy Bombs as well.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Three tremendous explosions roared out. The three Combat Robots and three Abyssal Corpse Ghosts had traded their lives, a perfect three-for-three exchange.
Commander Ding Mao, watching from atop the outpost, saw this unfold clearly, but his expression was grim. This outpost only had 500 Combat Robots. Even if every single one could manage a perfect one-for-one trade, they wouldn’t last much longer.
What’s more, these Abyssal Creatures were intelligent, not like Zombies that only knew how to mindlessly charge forward.
For instance, that Abyssal Corpse Ghost just now had known to crawl to reduce damage from their covering fire and had known to dodge the Combat Robots’ self-destruct.
If the AI system hadn’t taken control and detonated the Combat Robot’s High-Energy Bomb early, it was hard to say how many more robots that single Abyssal Corpse Ghost could have destroyed.
And it wasn’t just their intelligence that made them dangerous. The Abyssal Creatures’ inherent combat strength was also far greater than that of Zombies.
Take the Abyssal Corpse Ghost, for example. Its body was covered in a thick, keratinous layer. This added Defense Power made it nearly five times as durable as a High Level Zombie.
A typical High Level Zombie, though difficult to hit, could be killed with a single Armor-Piercing Bullet.
But Abyssal Corpse Ghosts were different. A Tearing Rifle using Armor-Piercing Bullets could, at best, barely crack their skulls. It would cause a grievous wound, but it was far from a one-shot kill.
Someone had run tests; even with Armor-Piercing Bullets, it took at least five shots to an Abyssal Corpse Ghost’s head to kill it.
That level of Defense Power was enough to cause despair. But what was even more hopeless was that these Abyssal Corpse Ghosts had another terrifying ability: they could devour corpses to recover at incredible Speed.
On the battlefield, you might hit an Abyssal Corpse Ghost in the head four times, only for it to escape.
Then, a few minutes later, you would see that same Abyssal Corpse Ghost charging at you again, completely unscathed.
Based on these points alone, the Abyssal Creatures were terrifyingly powerful.
The only reason humanity could hold out against them was because Abyssal Creatures were not Zombies.
Zombies had many weaknesses, but they also had one unique advantage: they wouldn’t die unless their heads were destroyed.
Abyssal Creatures, on the other hand, were still living beings. Like any other organism, they had many vital points, not just their heads.
They had an organ similar to a heart, and if it was pierced, the Abyssal Creature would die quickly.
It wasn’t even necessary to pierce the heart. As long as enough damage was inflicted on their internal organs, the Abyssal Creatures couldn’t survive.
That was why human armies could use wide-scale suppressive fire to barely hold back the Abyssal Creatures’ advance.
However, Outpost 231 clearly lacked that kind of overwhelming firepower.
Perhaps against 500 Abyssal Creatures, they could have achieved total fire suppression, preventing the enemy from even getting close.
But against 5,000, it was impossible—especially since these Abyssal Creatures were in a berserk state.
As more and more Abyssal Corpse Ghosts poured into the trenches, the outer defensive line crumbled at a visible rate.
And behind the Abyssal Corpse Ghosts came the Petrifying Spiders.
The Petrifying Spiders’ own Attack Power wasn’t particularly high, but the silk they spat was extremely troublesome.
This silk, as hard as rock, could be woven into webs that served as shields for the charging Abyssal Corpse Ghosts.
Moreover, these Petrifying Spiders could spit their silk up to 100 meters away.
The ejected silk could be controlled to rapidly harden into rock, effectively turning it into a volley of stone javelins for ranged attacks.
With these two types of Abyssal Creatures working in tandem, the fall of the outpost was only a matter of time.
