Chapter 730 - 730: 736

Chapter 730: 736

Curiosity killed the cat!

The curiosity aroused by Yang Zhen had caused two individuals blessed by Heaven to start doubting their lives.

Mo Shuiyan was always bustling about in the commercial street, becoming familiar with virtually all the shopkeepers to the point where they started to joke with her. Though they still mostly treated her with respect, they no longer feared Mo Shuiyan.

As for Wu Tao, she hadn’t cultivated for four days. She was becoming listless and, as she walked down the commercial street, she would have stumbled over a dozen times or bumped into over twenty people had Little Fatty not been there to remind her.

Little Fatty was somewhat slow-witted, but his talent was by no means subpar. He had already clearly noticed the changes in Wu Tao and Mo Shuiyan and kept his distance from Yang Zhen like he was a venomous snake.

Obviously, Little Fatty felt quite content with his current status and was afraid of being led astray by Yang Zhen.

Yang Zhen didn’t bother arguing with the honest Little Fatty. In fact, even if he had wanted to, there was nothing he could do when he encountered someone as stubborn as a mule like Little Fatty. People with strong principles were rarely swayed by the opinions of others.

However, he still needed to gather information. Having already thrown Mo Shuiyan and Wu Tao off track, he only needed to hook Little Fatty, Jin Heng, now.

There were two days left before they were due to set off for the Western Region.

Yang Zhen had managed the commercial street very systematically over this period, even going so far as to get several ancient tribes with whom he had decent relationships to help look after it. Among them were members of the Beiqi Clan who had already been accepted by the people of the commercial street. There were also the two great Sacred Lands, the Heavenly Spring Sacred Land and Heavenly Snow Sacred Land. Both the Heavenly Spring Saint Lord and Heavenly Snow Saint Lord often came to the commercial street for a stroll. They just couldn’t resist the delicious street food.

A few days was usually enough to get to know anyone, but Jin Heng realised that they were seeing less and less through Yang Zhen.

No, not them, but just Mo Shuiyan and Wu Tao who had become somewhat abnormal. One spent her day eating, drinking, and playing with common folk, while the other was absent-minded, squatting on the ground, watching ants move house for an entire day without returning until they were finished.

Very few people knew that Jin Heng was not as dull as he seemed on the surface. If he truly were so, how could he have cultivated to the Divine Transformation Stage at the Ninth Heavenly Layer, let alone become a person blessed by Heaven?

Jin Heng was nothing more than naturally lazy, and he disliked socialising.

One morning, Wu Tao went out again and squatted on the main street, watching a mass of ants fight with a green caterpillar. Although it was merely an unnoticed hunting scene in nature’s grand scheme, Wu Tao felt as if she was watching an epic battle between formidable warriors. Even her breathing fluctuated with the tide of the battle.

With nothing better to do, Jin Heng reluctantly copied Wu Tao by squatting on the ground. After hesitating for a moment, he said, “Wu Tao, you haven’t cultivated for four days. According to your body refining methods, if you don’t train regularly, you won’t just stop progressing, you’ll even regress. What are you thinking? Did you actually believe what Yang Zhen said?”

It seemed as if Wu Tao hadn’t heard Jin Heng’s words. He was used to it by now. Wu Tao often spaced out these past few days, and when he spoke to her, she would ignore him. No, it wasn’t that she was ignoring him – she genuinely couldn’t hear him.

Jin Heng pursed his lips, finding squatting too uncomfortable. He decided to sit on the ground instead and glanced at the bustling commercial street, murmuring to himself, “I wonder how Junior Sister Mo is doing. Compared to you, she’s more worrisome, mingling with mortals for an uncertain answer. Isn’t she worried that her cultivation will fall behind those people’s?”

Upon mentioning ‘those people’, Wu Tao’s expression became stern. She turned to look at Jin Heng, who was sitting on the ground, and asked, “Aren’t you also wasting your time accompanying me here?”

“Me?” Jin Heng pointed at his nose, wearing a depressed expression as he replied, “We came here together. If you guys fall behind, it will affect me as well. Maybe we will have to form a group then, and I’ll be the unfortunate one if that happens. So, I’m not wasting time. I’m trying to make you guys understand that we don’t have much time left.”

Wu Tao chuckled and said, “It’s been a long time since I’ve worked out. Once tomorrow is over, I can start cultivating again. We’ll see who is better.”

Jin Heng hurriedly scuttled back upon hearing this, sliding far away on his bottom. His face turned ashen as he waved his hand, saying, “Are you kidding? I don’t want to fight you.”

Wu Tao chuckled, tilted her head and looked at Jin Heng. She suddenly asked, “Do you think Junior Sister Mo and I are wasting our time?”

“Isn’t it the truth?” Jin Heng scowled, replying, “Yang Zhen is a good-for-nothing who doesn’t cultivate properly, but he has somehow earned Heaven’s favor. I have no idea how such a lazy practitioner could have done so. But for you two to follow his foolish ways… If your masters knew about this, they would definitely punish you. They surely would!”

Wu Tao giggled, then looked at Jin Heng with interest and asked, “Jin Heng, who do you think is stronger, you or Junior Sister Mo?”

“Of course, it’s me…” Jin Heng’s eyes bulged, and then he smirked, “All right, we’ve challenged each other many times, but we’ve never had a clear winner. Her spirit soul power may be sneaky, but my heavenly phoenix spirit fire isn’t a pushover either.”

Wu Tao glanced behind Jin Heng and then asked, “So, if you were to compete with Senior Sister Mo now, are you confident you could beat her?”

Jin Heng looked suspiciously behind his back but, seeing no one, scoffed and said, “Now? She hasn’t practiced for days. If she dares to challenge me now, I’m sure I’ll show her that even a fatso is not to be messed with.”

“You’re that confident?” asked the bewildered Wu Tao, eyeing Jin Heng in surprise.

Jin Heng guffawed, “You don’t know yet? Just yesterday, I broke through a minor realm. My heavenly phoenix spirit fire has reached the stage of perfection, and I can now summon six heavenly phoenixes. I’ve already surpassed Junior Sister Mo in terms of realm.”

Seeing the pride on Jin Heng’s face, Wu Tao replied with a smirk, “But you’re already dead!”

“Dead?”

At Wu Tao’s words, the dumbfounded Jin Heng couldn’t understand, how could he be dead when he’s perfectly fine?

Suddenly, as if sensing something, Jin Heng’s face changed dramatically, and his hair flung forward in a perfect arc, slapping him in the face with a ‘smack’.

When he saw someone standing behind him, Jin Heng let out a horrified shriek and skidded backwards, falling on his butt. He swiftly looked up, only to get the shock of his life.

“Mo… Mo… Junior Sister Mo?” Jin Heng’s face turned pale, looking like he’d seen a ghost when he saw Mo Shuiyan. He then shook his head vigorously, “Impossible, why isn’t there any energy emanating from you? Even an ordinary person couldn’t approach me unnoticed. It must be an illusion created by your spirit soul power. Yes, an illusion… but wouldn’t illusions also emit energy? Why aren’t you?”

Seeing Jin Heng’s questioning expression, Mo Shuiyan laughed and crouched down, “Little fatty, I heard you seem quite confident in defeating me. So, want to give it a try?”

“To compete?”

Jin Heng’s head shook like a rattle-drum, compete what, this must be a joke.

Mo Shuiyan had utterly transformed – the eerie demon Qi around her had vanished without a trace. Even the slightest ripple of True Essence was undetectable. Obviously, she had significantly advanced in her realm.

“How… How did you do it?” asked the shocked Jin Heng.

In her present state, it was just as Wu Tao had said. If Mo Shuiyan had launched an attack, he wouldn’t have stood a chance, no matter how many lives he had.

But how could this be possible?

Living among ordinary people for a few days, her realm suddenly advanced?

Mo Shuiyan, who seemed to anticipate Jin Heng’s question, beamed, “Because I found the answer.”

“Answer?” Jin Heng looked baffled. He looked at Mo Shuiyan and then at Wu Tao, “What answer?”

Wu Tao by this time had stopped listening to Jin Heng, he turned his attention back to observing the battle between the insects and ants.

Suddenly, as if he remembered something, Jin Heng’s face twisted in horror and he sprang up, bolting towards the thatched hut.

It must be Yang Zhen! It was definitely that demon’s doing!
