Du Fei shook his head. “I don’t want to risk my life for this kind of thing.”

He was past the age of risking his life for money.

The man in the bamboo hat remained silent, though his heart seethed with anger. He had gone through so much trouble to find Zhang Qing and get him to attack Feiyun City. Yet, to his surprise, when Duan Jue resigned from his post in the Capital City three years ago, he had not returned his Official Seal and was still able to control the Wei River Celestial Stele! It was absolutely damnable! It had ruined his master’s grand plan!

Seeing the man in the bamboo hat remain silent, Du Fei reached out, took the box given to him, and turned to leave. The man in the bamboo hat watched Du Fei’s retreating back with a gloomy gaze.

Because the identity of the man in the bamboo hat could not be exposed to the light, anyone allowed to accompany Du Fei on this trip had to be his most trusted confidant. This particular confidant was named Sun Mian.

Sun Mian whispered, “Marshal, it seems this person is indeed one of Lin Yu’s men from the State Capital.”

Du Fei scoffed dismissively. “So what if he is? As long as he can provide me with Refining Viscera Pills, I don’t care what his identity is.”

Sun Mian paused for a moment before whispering again, “When you sent me to Suiyang City a while ago, I heard a piece of news.”

Hearing this, Du Fei’s expression turned subtle. Sun Mian was a hidden piece in his hands. Coming from a branch of the Sun Family in Suiyang City, he had followed Du Fei ever since the latter saved his life many years ago. With the backing of the Sun Family, Sun Mian was privy to many secrets unknown to the public.

“What news?”

“Marshal, you should know the identity of the current City Guardian of Feiyun City, Duan Jue, right? This person once served as the Counselor to the Crown Prince and an Imperial Attendant. For some unknown reason, he offended the Regent King, resigned in anger, and returned to Feiyun City.

“Furthermore, the Court intends to recall the Qing State’s State Chief, Lin Yu, back to the Capital City to serve as an official. With someone backing him and the Official Seal in his hand, Duan Jue is the successor to the position of State Chief!”

Du Fei spun around instantly, his eyes flashing with a sharp light. He was no fool. Combining this information with the identity of the man in the bamboo hat, he immediately grasped the complexity of the situation. The Yellow Heaven Sect was undoubtedly a group of rebels, but State Chief Lin Yu was also a traitor from within!

If the rebels revolted, Feiyun City fell, and Duan Jue died, the matter of recalling Lin Yu would naturally be dropped. Now, although the Yellow Heaven Sect had still revolted, Duan Jue was not dead!

He suddenly lowered his voice. “No wonder they wanted to assassinate Duan Jue and asked me to gather information on his loyalists. So… that’s how it is!”

For a moment, Du Fei’s mind was a chaotic mess. He suddenly realized something, recalling his visit to his master Ancient Stream yesterday. His master had seemingly unintentionally mentioned, “It’s time to choose sides again…” Now that he thought about it, his master must have been contemplating which side to take.

However, Du Fei soon no longer had to worry about it.

As their small boat sailed into the middle of the Wei River, a Black Shadow suddenly surfaced beneath them. The next moment, a whirlpool suddenly appeared in the river, and an Alien Species resembling a Black Dragon shot out from the water. It opened its massive maw and spat out a cloud of white mist.

The boat was destroyed, and Sun Mian died on the spot.

Du Fei’s expression changed drastically. He drew his Long Sword from his waist and continuously tapped his feet against the wooden wreckage of the boat to stay afloat. Covered in sweat, he wondered why such a ferocious Alien Species had targeted him. And in the water, of all places!

With a low roar, countless streams of green mist violently erupted from all over Du Fei’s body as he attempted to use his Bloodline Power to confuse the Ghostly Roar’s eyes. But he was overthinking it. The power of the Ghostly Roar was like the legendary Flood Dragon, capable of almost overturning rivers and seas. Even though the Wei River was vast, the waves it triggered were more than enough to completely swallow the green mist Du Fei had sprayed.

CRASH!

A giant wave struck. The debris of the boat flew everywhere. Moments later, Sun Mian’s corpse attracted countless fish and shrimp. As for Du Fei himself, he had disappeared!

In the water, the Ghostly Roar could practically instantly kill any Martial Artist below the Three Viscera Realm, even if Du Fei was one of the Abnormal People!

With Du Fei’s corpse in its mouth, the Ghostly Roar turned into a blur in the water, swiftly disappearing along the Wei River. It wasn’t until it returned to the dry well and spat out the partially corroded corpse that the Ghostly Roar looked disgusted. It wondered why its master liked to eat this kind of thing when venison was so much more delicious.
