Chapter 709: Chapter 702: Quota Competition

In the candidates’ temporary residential quarters, inside the dormitory where Zhou Yuanjue and his group were staying.

"I knew it."

Upon hearing the message from the communicator, Nainte wore an expression that said, ’I knew it’.

Zhou Yuanjue had indeed drawn the attention of Bernard City’s higher-ups.

"You should go. This is a rare opportunity."

Lei Yi and the others told Zhou Yuanjue.

Zhou Yuanjue nodded, took his Identity Card, and left the room.

He then got his bearings and headed toward the Jiaoxing Institute, the destination mentioned in the message.

The Jiaoxing Institute was located in the central region of Bernard City. The building was shaped like a half-open flower bud, pure white all over, with walls that seemed to emit a faint glow.

He swiped his Identity Card to enter the Jiaoxing Institute, then followed a guard robot’s guidance to a room on the third floor, where he stood before a white light gate.

"Zhou Yuanjue? Come in."

Just as Zhou Yuanjue stood still before the light gate, a telepathic message emanated from the room.

After a moment’s thought, Zhou Yuanjue stepped through the light gate.

The office had the distinct decorative features of the Sacred Lotus Civilization. Its color palette was primarily pure white and silver, with very simple decorations. The lifeforms of the Sacred Lotus Civilization seemed to have some level of mysophobia and obsessive-compulsive disorder. All the furnishings were perfectly orderly, and the desk was positioned in the exact center of the room, its distance to the side walls measured with absolute precision.

Sitting upright at the desk was a man in a silver-white robe, his long silver hair draped over his shoulders. He had an exceptionally young and handsome face. His pupils, which bore a lotus pattern, were fixed on Zhou Yuanjue, and a faint smile played on his lips.

"We meet again. I watched your battle with the Demon that day. I didn’t expect to find someone as powerful as you among this batch of candidates."

"Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Modin, and I am one of the general managers from the Jiaoxing Institute in charge of this batch of candidates."

"Please, sit."

Modin said with a smile, his demeanor perfectly placid.

Zhou Yuanjue, in turn, was studying the Sacred Lotus member. Yet, no matter how he tried to sense him, he could not detect the faintest trace of his presence, as if they existed in different dimensions.

This was a consequence of the immense gap in their power levels.

For someone to serve as a general manager for the candidate guidance mission, his power and status within Bernard City were naturally extraordinary.

’He has probably surpassed Type One.’

"Hello, Mr. Modin."

Zhou Yuanjue gave him a nod and sat down in the chair in front of the desk.

"Our failure to give you sufficient attention was an oversight. I hope you won’t take it personally."

"I’ll get straight to the point. You’ve probably heard some whispers, so I imagine you know why I’ve asked you here."

"I have my suspicions. Does it have to do with the Primordial Star Organization?"

Zhou Yuanjue said.

"For your purposes, you can think of it that way."

"Due to a change in the Law of Contact, more beings from lower-level civilizations are being guided into the True River Realm to contribute to its development. As a result, many organizations and alliances have created training programs. The major organizations in the East Thirteen Districts, headed by the Primordial Star Organization, have also participated, offering numerous slots specifically for beings from these lower-level civilizations."

"For you, this is a very rare opportunity—one that could change your future path, or even benefit your entire civilization. For us at the Jiaoxing Institute, cultivating talent for our parent civilization is also the means by which we acquire our own resources and Contribution Points."

"However, while these organizations have made numerous slots available, once they are distributed among the various True Lands across the vast universe, they become extremely rare. For instance, a top-tier group like the Primordial Star Organization has only a single slot."

"And on this True Land, the Sacred Lotus Civilization is not the only one qualified to receive candidates. Therefore, those best and rarest slots must be decided through competition."

Modin said slowly.

Zhou Yuanjue nodded upon hearing this. He wasn’t surprised; he’d already guessed that their focus on the stronger candidates was for some kind of similar event.

’It’s their duty to cultivate and discover powerful individuals for their civilization. Only by producing the right "results" can they earn the corresponding "rewards." And the highest achievement, without a doubt, is securing the slot offered by the Primordial Star Organization.’

"This leads to the upcoming ’Candidate Slot Selection Tournament.’ We originally believed the Demon Debaka was the strongest existence among this batch of candidates, but yesterday, you showed up."

"Now, we believe you can become one of our most important seeds in this competition for the slot."

"If you agree, we will provide you with preferential treatment and resources over the coming period to help you achieve a better result in the competition. What are your thoughts?"

Modin asked Zhou Yuanjue.

"I have no objection."

Zhou Yuanjue replied. It was a mutually beneficial matter, so he had no reason to refuse.

"Good. This is your comprehensive ability analysis data. You can ask any questions you might have."

Modin waved his hand, and a light screen appeared in front of Zhou Yuanjue.

Zhou Yuanjue scanned through the test data before him and asked, "I am rather curious—this ’Transformation Level’ listed here, how is it calculated and measured?"

He had been curious about the specific calculation method for the Transformation Level for a while.

"It’s simple. The Transformation Level is calculated by comparing the power that can be exerted by your current structure to the power of the basic Sacred Lotus Structure."

"For instance, your Transformation Level of forty-five percent means that your current essential structure is approximately forty-five percent stronger than the basic Sacred Lotus Structure."

Modin explained.

’So that’s how it works?’

Zhou Yuanjue mused to himself. ’So the calculation for the so-called Transformation Level is that simple. But this data seems to measure things only on an energy level. Many factors, like techniques and physical energy, aren’t included, so it can’t accurately measure one’s actual combat prowess.’

"If you’ll permit me to ask, there is a question I was hoping you could answer for me, Mr. Modin."

Zhou Yuanjue said after a moment of contemplation.

"Ask away."

Modin replied with a nod.

"In the entire history of the Sacred Lotus Civilization, what is the highest Transformation Level ever achieved during the candidate stage?"

Zhou Yuanjue asked, his voice low and serious.

"As for that question... I think it would be better if you didn’t know."

Modin shook his head and sighed.

"Why not?"

Zhou Yuanjue asked, confused.

"Such an outrageous number would only crush your confidence. Trust me, that’s not a good thing. Don’t compare yourself to others; you only need to reach your own personal best."

Modin said.

"Please, tell me."

Zhou Yuanjue asked again, his gaze firm.

Modin’s reluctance only made Zhou Yuanjue more curious.

"The highest Transformation Level in the history of the Sacred Lotus Civilization was..."

"Three hundred percent."

Modin spoke slowly, revealing a shocking number.
