The Hand of Aurora blazed above the Colosseum, five fingers spread wide, each trailing ribbons of prismatic fire.

Divine patterns older than recorded history swirled within its luminous palm.

"Two supreme-tier abilities coexisting in a single vessel. For both to function, both parents would need to carry supreme bloodline markers, and even then the probability of successful dual-inheritance would be—"

"One in ten thousand," Lucius finished.

"Less," the Pontifex corrected. "I have lived six millennia. I have never witnessed it."

Duke Regulus was already moving.

The instant the Hand of Aurora materialized, every Exarch-level sense on the royal observation deck screamed.

The Duke’s battle-aura erupted around his shoulders as he launched himself from his seat.

Tournament regulations be damned. This was an existential threat to the dynasty.

He cleared the railing in a single bound—

And stopped.

A teacup, hurled with impeccable aim, detonated three inches from his face.

The explosion was modest by Exarch standards but the message behind it was ironclad.

Pontifex Valerius stood at the edge of the observation deck, one hand still extended from the throw, the other tucked serenely behind her back. Her expression carried the indulgent patience of a grandmother watching toddlers wrestle over a wooden horse.

"Let the young ones finish their match," she said. "Why should we elders interfere?"

"Move aside, woman. That commoner is about to kill the Crown Prince of this Empire."

"Oh, I doubt that. The tournament’s protective formations will absorb anything genuinely lethal." The Pontifex tilted her head. "Unless Your Grace is suggesting that the Imperial Tournament’s ward system is inadequate?"

If Regulus admitted the wards might fail, he was condemning his own administration’s competence before fifty thousand witnesses.

If he accepted they would hold, he had no justification for intervention...

"You—" Regulus snarled, "Do you want war with the Crown?"

The Pontifex smiled at him.

Said nothing.

Duke Regulus trembled with fury... but he did not advance. Behind that gentle smile, the pressure of a Seventh-Realm Exarch who had once designed the Catacombs beneath the Imperial Academy pressed against his senses like a mountain leaning against his ribs.

She could not defeat him in sustained combat. But she could stall him. And stalling was all that was needed.

On the arena floor, the Hand of Aurora descended.

Aurelius threw everything he possessed at it.

The Dragonblade erupted with the full, concentrated Imperial Mandate of the Capital... ten thousand years of dynastic authority compressed into a single vertical slash aimed at the descending palm.

The Hand swallowed the dragon-fire the way a river absorbs a tributary.

Aurelius shed the Aquila Regalia and reformed it into a multilayered shield... seven concentric barriers of crystallized Imperial bloodline energy, each reinforced with ancestral seal-work dating back to the Empire’s founding. The strongest defensive formation available to his lineage.

The Hand passed through all seven layers as though they were morning fog.

"Impossible—"

Aurelius activated his bloodline transformation... the legendary Imperial Dragon Metamorphosis, used exactly once in recorded history by the Third Emperor during the Primeval Wars. Golden scales crawled across his skin.

For a single second, Crown Prince Aurelius looked less like a mortal and more like the living avatar of the dynasty itself.

The Hand of Aurora closed around him.

And the dragon scales cracked.

The tournament’s protective wards screamed to life... a lattice of emergency formations embedded in the arena’s foundation, designed to absorb lethal force and preserve combatants’ lives.

They caught the killing edge of the Hand’s power, channeling it into the Colosseum’s ward-stones, which blazed white-hot and began to fracture under the strain.

The Hand squeezed.

Then released.

Aurelius hit the arena floor.

He did not get up.

Fifty thousand people sat in silence.

Then Duke Regulus exhaled.

Battered beyond recognition, stripped of every defensive layer, his Dragonblade lying inert three meters from his outstretched fingers... but alive.

The tournament wards had held. Barely.

Several ward-stones along the arena’s perimeter had split clean through. The Court Artificers would be writing damage reports for weeks.

Regulus turned slowly toward the Pontifex.

The Pontifex picked up a fresh teacup and poured herself another serving of Lucid Dream Blend.

"Tea?" she offered pleasantly.

On the arena floor...

*What the hell was that?*

Since the Soul-Link’s establishment, he had never attempted to channel the Genesis Sphere’s power directly.

The Hand of Aurora had been born from instinct... a gambit fired in the heat of combat.

He had expected it to buy breathing room. Maybe crack one of Aurelius’s shields. Force a retreat.

He had not expected it to end the fight.

*Great Sage, explain.*

[The resulting technique exceeded projected output by a factor of eleven.]

[Cause: unknown interaction between the Parasite class’s assimilation framework and the Genesis Sphere’s Primeval architecture. Further study required.]

He lowered his hand and looked across the arena at Aurelius’s unconscious form.

The Crown Prince was arrogant and had sent Praetorians to kill him in a tomb. But the man was also the strongest opponent Theo had ever faced, and he had fallen not to superior skill or cultivation, but to a trump card so overwhelming it had bypassed the fight entirely.

*A pity,* Theo thought.

His gaze drifted to the Aurelian Dragonblade, lying inert on the fractured stone.

*Great Sage, can the Dragonblade be—*

[Negative. The Aurelian Dragonblade is soul-bound to the Imperial bloodline. Additionally, theft of a Crown artifact carries a penalty of public execution across thirty-seven of the Empire’s forty-one provinces.]

*...Noted.*

He turned away from the Dragonblade.

"Victor: Theo... the Abyssal Sword Sovereign!"

Herald Octavian’s voice cracked on the announcement, as if even his composure could not survive what he had just witnessed.

In the Academy’s reserved section, Liana pressed one hand against her chest.

She had felt it...

Theo’s system had reached across the bond and asked, and the Sphere had answered, as if it had been waiting for precisely this request.

The Hand of Aurora. Her power, channeled through his body, shaped by his will.

It should have frightened her. The Genesis Sphere responding to someone else’s command was precisely the kind of behavior that preceded Primeval reawakening...

But looking down at the arena — At the idiot who was currently scratching his neck with one hand while holding a Primeval warhammer in the other, grinning at the crowd like a man who had just won a bar bet rather than defeated the heir to an eternal empire—

Liana found that she was not frightened at all.

The Pontifex, watching from the observation deck above, sipped her tea and said nothing.

[Ding!]

The system chimed in Theo’s ear as he descended the arena steps.

He glanced at the notification. Then at the Crown Prince being carried away on a gilded stretcher. Then back at the notification.

His grin widened until it threatened to split his face.
