Investing In Overlooked Women: I Get Cashback On Every Glow-Up
Chapter 126: The Full Truth
She paused, her fork hovering an inch above her plate. Sensing the sudden change in my tone, she slowly set her fork down onto the cloth napkin, her eyes fixing onto mine with complete attention.
"Last night, after the opening, once the guests left and the staff cleared out, Patricia and I were alone in the main room," I said, keeping my posture calm and my eyes locked onto hers without flinching. "She was completely overwhelmed by everything—winning the night, taking down Durev, saving her career. In the middle of all that emotion, she stepped in and kissed me."
The light mood at the table evaporated instantly. Chloe went completely still. Her hands rested flat on the edge of the table, her expression shifting into a quiet, unreadable mask. She didn’t interrupt; she just listened, processing every single word.
"I pulled back immediately and made the boundary clear," I continued, taking full responsibility. "I told her that I’m with you, that we draw a hard line at stuff like this, and that I made a mistake by leaning into it for even a second when she caught me off guard. She apologized, realized her emotions got the best of her, and we established that moving forward, our relationship is strictly professional."
Chloe sat in total silence for a long moment, the soft clinking of cutlery from other tables and the distant sound of the ocean filling the quiet space between us.
She stopped eating entirely.
She leaned back in her chair, her eyes searching my face—not with explosive anger, but with the cold, sharp analytical mind of a future lawyer weighing the truth, the transparency, and the intent behind every word I had just spoken.
"You’re hiding something," Chloe said, her voice dropping into a quiet, dangerous register. Her eyes locked onto mine, sharp and searching. "That wasn’t all of it, was it? You’re giving me the sanitized version."
"That is all of it, Chloe," I said, holding my ground without flinching.
"No, part of the story isn’t true," she insisted, leaning forward slightly, her gaze cutting right through me. "Look me in the eye and tell me you pulled back instantly. Tell me you didn’t hesitate."
The air between us felt heavy enough to suffocate a fire. I took a slow, steadying breath, refusing to give her a cheap lie just to smooth things over.
"I didn’t pull back immediately," I admitted, my voice low and completely level. "When she leaned in, I leaned into it for a second before I came to my senses and pulled away."
Chloe swallowed hard. She leaned back against her seat, closing her eyes for a brief, heavy second, and let out a long, quiet exhale.
Before she could speak, the glass doors near the kitchen pass swung open.
Patricia walked out in her immaculate executive chef whites, holding a small tasting tray. She scanned the room, spotted our table, and walked over with a polite, professional smile—completely oblivious to the tension suffocating our table.
Chloe opened her eyes and watched Patricia approach, her gaze turning icy as she took her in.
"So that’s her," Chloe murmured under her breath.
"Ethan," Patricia said smoothly as she reached the table, setting down the tray. She turned her attention to Chloe, extending a warm, confident hand. "And you must be Chloe. Ethan’s mentioned you—it’s so wonderful to finally meet you."
Chloe didn’t reach out. She didn’t move a muscle. She just stared at Patricia’s extended hand for a long, grueling beat of silence.
Patricia’s smile faltered slightly, her hand hovering in the air for a second before she quietly withdrew it, picking up on the sharp, freezing energy radiating off Chloe.
Instead of making a scene, Chloe offered a faint, surprisingly calm smile that didn’t reach her eyes at all.
"I’ve lost my appetite," Chloe said softly, turning her face toward me and completely ignoring Patricia. She slid her napkin onto the table next to her barely-touched plate. "Take me back to the hotel, Ethan."
I didn’t argue. I dropped a heavy stack of bills onto the table to cover the check, offered Patricia a quiet, brief nod of acknowledgement, and stood up to walk Chloe out to the car.
The drive back to the resort was spent in total, suffocating silence. Neither of us said a single word as the coastal scenery blurred past the windows.
When we reached the lounge and finalized the check-in at the front desk, the heavy quiet followed us all the way up to the suite. The moment the double doors closed behind us, Chloe turned to me, her voice quiet but absolute.
"Lock the door."
I turned the key, the heavy deadbolt clicking firmly into place.
Chloe slowly walked up to me, the cool composure she’d kept at the restaurant completely melting away into something raw, possessive, and intense. The jealousy was still burning in her eyes, but it was mixed with a deep, fierce heat.
"I always knew something like this was going to happen," she murmured, her voice dropping into a low, sultry tone as her fingers reached for the top button of my shirt. "You’re always surrounded by beautiful women... and I knew the second I went away, someone was going to try to take my man."
She slowly unbuttoned my shirt, her hands sliding over my chest as she looked up at me through her lashes.
"And part of me feels guilty," she whispered, leaning in close enough for her warm breath to brush against my neck. "Maybe if I wasn’t away for so long, you wouldn’t have even looked at anyone else. But you’re mine, Ethan. And I’m going to make sure you remember that."
She took my hand and pulled me toward the king-sized bed in the center of the room. Giving me a slight push onto the mattress, she climbed up and straddled my lap, looking down at me—radiant, breathtaking, and completely in control.
She leaned down, capturing my lips in a deep, passionate kiss that wiped away every trace of the day’s tension. Our hands found each other, pulling close as the rest of the world completely faded away .
