Chapter 258: 258 | The First Attempt At Seduction

Mira glanced toward Selene.

Selene hesitated before she spoke. "I don’t want to be too hopeful or say anything but..."

She suddenly raised her head and stared into directly into Dexter’s eyes. "My eye sight has gotten a bit better."

Dexter’s eyes brightened. "How much better?"

"I think..." She raised her hand toward the sunlight. "I can see colors."

Dexter froze, Mira’s eyes widened and even Lyra finally looked away from her ice cream.

Selene’s pale eyes stared forward. They were still slightly unfocused and pale, still early damaged. But they weren’t quite as empty as they had once been.

Dexter had noticed the difference before. He simply hadn’t wanted to assume.

"You can see?"

"Not properly." Selene shook her head quickly. "Don’t misunderstand. Everything is still extremely blurry. Most things are darkness or vague patches."

Her voice became quieter. "But sometimes..." She turned her face toward the sky. "There’s blue."

Dexter’s smile slowly widened.

Selene lowered her gaze toward the grass. "And green."

Then she turned toward Mira. "Red."

Mira stared at her. "My hair?"

"I think so."

A rare softness entered Mira’s expression. "Yes."

Selene smiled. "It’s very bright."

Dexter laughed. "That’s really nice!"

Selene turned toward him.

Dexter couldn’t hide his excitement. "Very soon, you all will be healed up."

Selene’s expression softened as she looked downward shyly. "I hope so."

Dexter shook his head. "No."

Selene looked back.

Dexter smiled confidently. "I know so."

Something in his tone silenced her. He said it as though their recovery had already been decided and the world simply hadn’t caught up yet.

Selene’s cheeks warmed slightly. She lowered her head.

Dexter smiled. He knew what was happening. The medicine was working.

Everything was finally beginning to produce visible results.

He looked down at Mira. When they’d first married, she couldn’t voluntarily move anything below her neck. Now her right arm had recovered enough that she could use it independently.

Then Selene. The woman who had been completely blind could now faintly distinguish colors.

Which left...

Dexter slowly turned. Lyra.

She was walking beside them. Her entire attention had returned to the Starlight Chocolate ice cream.

Lick. Lick. Lick.

Dexter stared.

Lyra eventually sensed his gaze and she paused as her tongue had barely left the ice cream when her violet eyes shifted toward him.

She blinked. ’What?’

Dexter nearly laughed. She hadn’t been paying attention at all.

"Have you noticed any improvement?"

Lyra tilted her head.

"Your ears or vocal cords. Anything?"

Understanding appeared in Lyra’s eyes and she nodded.

Dexter’s expression immediately became serious. "When?"

Lyra’s mental voice reached him. ’A few days ago.’

Dexter stopped walking again. "A few days ago?!"

Lyra blinked. ’Yes.’

"And you didn’t tell me?"

She shrugged.

Dexter stared incredulously.

Mira chuckled.

"What improvement?" Dexter asked.

Lyra thought. ’I can hear a little.’

His expression changed. "How much?"

’Not much.’

She glanced toward the roller coaster. A train thundered along the distant tracks.

’Loud noises. Sometimes.’

Dexter watched her carefully.

’Everything sounds strange. Distant. Like I’m underwater.’

"But you can hear it."

Lyra nodded.

Dexter grinned. "What about your voice?"

Lyra expression turned a bit sad as she shook her head. ’Nothing.’

’My vocal cords haven’t recovered enough. I still can’t make any sound.’

Dexter’s smile didn’t diminish. "That’s still an improvement."

Lyra nodded.

Dexter’s determination hardened. "In the next few days, it’ll get even better."

Lyra smiled and immediately returned to her ice cream.

Dexter stared at her incredulously as she licked her chocolate scoop. "That’s it?"

"Food over emotional moment?"

Another lick.

Dexter sighed. "Of course."

---

Dexter pushed Mira while Selene and Lyra walked beside them.

A few minutes later, Dexter happened to glance downward.

Mira was eating her strawberry ice cream with her recovered hand. But something immediately caught his attention.

There was a streak of strawberry ice cream on her upper lip but Mira didn’t notice.

Dexter stopped the wheelchair and Mira looked up. "What happened?"

"Wait."

"For what?"

Dexter moved around the wheelchair and stood in front of her.

Mira raised an eyebrow but didn’t say anything.

"Stay still."

Her eyes narrowed suspiciously. "Why?"

Dexter leaned closer.

Mira glanced at him suspiciously as she stiffened slightly.

He raised his hand and before she could ask another question, his thumb brushed gently across her sexy and Lucious lips.

Mira instantly froze.

Dexter wiped away the small streak of strawberry ice cream, his thumb remained there for half a second before he pulled away.

Mira stared at him.

Dexter looked at the ice cream on his thumb. And then gazed deeply into Mira’s eyes and then placed his thumb in his mouth slowly licking the strawberry ice cream away.

Mira’s eyes widened as she stared at Dexter’s finger and then his lips and then his eyes.

Her heart suddenly skipped and then pounded hard as her face flushed red.

"Thump. Thump. Thump."

Dexter’s enhanced hearing caught every beat as he smirked. "There."

Mira stared. "You..."

Dexter had already walked back behind her. He grabbed the wheelchair handles. "All clean."

"Dexter!"

"What?"

"You..."

Mira stopped. What exactly was she supposed to say?

Behind them, Selene wore an expression of surprise. Lyra had completely stopped eating. Her eyes moved from Mira to Dexter. Then back to Mira.

Dexter pretended nothing had happened. "Let’s keep moving."

He pushed the wheelchair forward.

For several seconds, none of the women spoke.

Dexter’s smile grew as he saw Mira’s ears were still red.

’Just three days should be enough.’

Dexter smirked at his thought.

...

Several minutes later, they passed one of the game areas. Dexter’s attention initially went toward a shooting booth. Then he noticed Mira looking elsewhere.

Her gaze had settled on a row of claw machines. Inside were stuffed animals of different sizes. Cats. Dragons. Bears. Rabbits. Several strange monster plushies. And at the back of one machine sat five enormous white teddy bear.

Mira’s eyes lingered and Dexter noticed as he spoke. "Want one?"

Mira immediately looked away. "No."

Dexter smiled. "That wasn’t convincing."

"I wasn’t looking at anything."

"Of course."

Dexter turned the wheelchair.

Mira frowned. "What are you doing?"

"Getting you a teddy bear."

"I don’t need a teddy bear."

"Great. Then I’ll get one for myself, Selene and Lyra."

Lyra immediately smiled and Selene followed.

Fortunately, there was nobody waiting. A young attendant sat behind the counter.

"How much?"

"2 Dollars per attempt."

Dexter paid. Before beginning, he noticed glowing symbols around the machine.

"A suppression formation?"
