Chapter 253: 253 | You’re My Sun

Dexter opened the front door and stepped aside.

Lyra was the first to walk out, followed closely by Selene. Dexter waited until both women were safely outside before moving behind Mira’s wheelchair and pushing her carefully over the threshold.

Before closing the door, he stopped and looked back into the house.

"Serum, snacks, tea..." he murmured, mentally checking everything one final time.

He had prepared more carefully than he wanted to admit.

Selene’s ice-suppressing serum was packed safely in case her condition suddenly flared up. For Lyra, he had brought several snacks because her appetite remained terrifying enough to bankrupt a restaurant if left unchecked. He had also brewed a special tea for Mira, though there was enough for all three women.

Dexter didn’t want to take any chances.

This would be the first proper outing the four of them had taken together since their marriage.

Fortunately, medicine and food weren’t the only precautions he’d taken.

His gaze briefly passed over the necklaces resting around their necks.

Each looked like an expensive piece of jewelry, but their real value had nothing to do with appearance.

Mira’s necklace contained a powerful defensive formation. The moment its wearer encountered a sufficiently dangerous attack, the necklace would automatically generate a protective barrier around her.

Lyra’s necklace was considerably more aggressive. Instead of simply protecting its wearer, it could retaliate. If Lyra’s life came under genuine threat, the artifact could release an attack carrying the power of a Peak Ultra Realm expert.

As for Selene’s...

Dexter considered hers the strangest of the three. If Selene encountered a lethal threat, the necklace could activate an emergency teleportation formation and transport her away from the danger.

Dexter finally closed the door.

’That should be enough.’

He didn’t actually expect anything to happen today. This was a neighborhood picnic, not a dungeon expedition. Still, caution had never killed anyone.

Besides, the necklaces weren’t their only protection.

There was him.

His cultivation was still within the Superhuman Realm, but judging him solely by cultivation level had become increasingly misleading. His combat strength had already surpassed what someone at his realm should possess, and when his talents, bloodline, techniques, and combat abilities were included...

His true combat power could already contend with someone in the Ultra Realm.

Unless someone particularly troublesome appeared, he could protect them.

He locked the gate.

Dexter opened the SUV rear passenger doors, allowing Lyra and Selene to enter first.

Dexter then returned to Mira.

"I’m going to carry you."

Mira looked up at him before giving a small nod.

Dexter bent down and carefully lifted her from the wheelchair. He fastened the supporting harness around her.

Only after checking each fastening twice did he straighten.

Dexter walked around to the driver’s side and climbed in.

"All right, here we go."

---

The drive took barely five minutes.

The neighborhood was strangely quiet along the way. It seems almost everyone was heading toward the same place.

The neighborhood festival. Or, more accurately, the neighborhood picnic.

When Dexter approached the public garden where the event was being held, the reason for the empty streets became obvious.

The parking lot was packed. Vehicles filled row after row, from ordinary family cars to expensive mana-powered vehicles.

"Quite a turnout," Dexter muttered.

He found an empty space near the edge and parked. After stepping out, he opened the rear door.

Lyra climbed down first and she immediately looked around with obvious curiosit.

Selene followed more cautiously as Dexter naturally reached for her arm and guided her away from the vehicle.

Dexter then went around to Mira. He unfolded her wheelchair beside the passenger door, locked it into position, then carefully transferred her into it.

Then they started toward the garden.

Mira was directly ahead of Dexter as he pushed her wheelchair. Lyra walked on his left. Selene stayed on his right, close enough that Dexter could reach her immediately if necessary.

For several seconds, everything seemed perfectly normal.

Then Dexter noticed the staring.

A woman unloading a basket from her vehicle stopped halfway through the motion. A man beside another car whispered something to his wife. Two teenagers openly turned around.

Dexter’s enhanced hearing caught fragments from different directions.

"Isn’t that..."

"That’s the Ashford..."

"Those must be his wives."

"Wait, Dexter Ashford?"

Dexter’s eyebrow twitched.

’Wonderful.’

Apparently, marrying three women from three powerful families was enough to transform someone’s private life into neighborhood entertainment.

Then a tiny voice cut through the whispers.

"Hi, Dexter!"

Dexter stopped. He turned toward the voice.

A little boy, probably around five years old, stood beside a nearby vehicle, enthusiastically waving at him. His smile was wide, gap-toothed.

Dexter blinked.

The child grinned wider. "Hello, Dexter!"

Before Dexter could recover from the absurdity of a five-year-old knowing him by name, another little boy popped out from beside the first. They looked almost identical.

Twins.

The second child immediately began waving too. "Hi, Dexter!"

Dexter blinked. "...Hi?"

He awkwardly raised his hand and waved back. Both children immediately brightened as though Dexter had just personally acknowledged two lifelong fans.

Their mother looked stunned.

Their father, who had been unloading containers from the trunk, immediately straightened.

Then, almost simultaneously, they grabbed their respective children.

"Sorry!"

"So sorry!"

One twin was lifted under the arms. The other was scooped against his father’s chest.

"But I wanted to ask him about his three wi—"

The mother’s hand immediately covered the boy’s mouth.

Dexter nearly stumbled.

Lyra’s shoulders trembled. She was laughing. Silently, but definitely laughing.

Even Mira’s lips curled upward.

Dexter looked between them. "Very funny."

Mira finally spoke. "You know, if children that young already know your name, their parents must have been gossiping about you quite extensively."

Dexter glanced back at the rapidly retreating family. He sighed.

"What can I do? Their mouths belong to them."

Mira raised an eyebrow.

Dexter shrugged. "Besides, maybe I enjoy being the center of attention. You m?"

Mira’s lips curved slightly.

"Never."

The sarcasm was so dry Dexter almost laughed.

They continued toward the garden. The closer they came, the louder everything became.

Children laughed somewhere ahead. Music drifted through the trees.

Yet gradually, Dexter noticed something.

Lyra had slowed. Her dark eyes weren’t looking toward the festival anymore.

They were looking upward.

At the sky.

Dexter followed her gaze. The morning sky stretched endlessly overhead, painted a brilliant blue with thin clouds drifting lazily beneath the sun.

Lyra simply stared.

Then her voice appeared inside their minds. It was soft and melodious.

’It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the sky.’

Dexter’s expression changed slightly.

Lyra continued staring upward. ’It’s beautiful.’

He looked at Lyra and smiled. "Wait until sunset."

Lyra turned toward him. A small smile appeared on her lips.

Beside them, Selene also tilted her face toward the sky. Unlike Lyra, however, there was no beautiful blue world waiting above her. There hadn’t been for years.

But she could feel it.

The sunlight touched her pale skin. The breeze brushed strands of silver-white hair across her cheek.

Selene raised her face slightly higher.

"It’s been a long time since I’ve felt the warmth of the sun."

Dexter looked toward her. For several seconds, Selene quietly enjoyed it.

Then she glanced at Dexter.

"Now that I think about it... I don’t think I missed it that much."

Dexter stared at her, stunned.
