Chapter 214: 214 | Others Had Died With That Gaze

Mira arrived first.

She ate quickly and to Dexter’s shock, she finished before the others and then wheeled herself away from the table without a word and headed for the window in the living room.

Dexter watched her go.

’Yep. Still angry.’

Dexter frowned angrily. ’While I understand that she might be jealous, she’s well aware I didn’t marry just her right?’

He has tried to be understanding to the girls to the extent that others in his situation might even call him a whimp. But Dexter had suffered from his family which was why he was considerate to the girls because they had also being bullied by their own families.

But enough is enough. If he kept on keeping quiet, they would think he’s a real push over while he’s just trying his best to understand them.

Fine, they were the pride and talent of the city but now, it’s a different case.

Dexter who was thinking about this suddenly paused as he heard Lyra’s voice spoke in his mind.

’D-Dexter, c-can I have... more.’

Even till now, she was still hesitant about asking for more.

Dexter’s mind calmed a bit because as a Food smith, he felt quite proud when others ask for more of his food.

"Of course. Give me a second."

Dexter smiled as he went to bring more meals for her.

And just like that, much to Dexter’s surprise, Lyra actually ate eight portions.

Thankfully, he had been prepared ahead of time and had prepared extra meals.

But even his precautions hadn’t been enough and by the eighth portion, the supply was running so low that he had to give her half of his own bowl to satisfy the final round.

She ate it with a all with a smile as then stared as Dexter with a gaze Dexter hadn’t seen in a long time.

’What was that?’

He had seen that gaze in other’s face but only one had lived till now while the others had died.

And now, he was seeing that gaze in another’s person.

’I’m probably wrong.’

Dexter stood at the sink as he started washing the plates.

"Bang Bang Bang"

Three sharp knocks at the gate.

’Who?’

Dexter’s Enhanced Hearing activated and in a split second, he identified the heartbeat before the third knock landed.

It was Tessa.

He dried his hands and walked to the gate.

In his way, he saw Mira was in the living room and was cultivating by the window.

She didn’t look up nor did she acknowledge his movement when he walked by like she sometimes does.

She was definitely still sulking and Dexter at this moment was alredy tired of it.

Dexter sighed and walked out of the house and then opened the gate.

Tessa stood on the other side with her usually smile on her face. Her curly red hair bounced in the evening breeze as her green eyes sparkled at the sight of him.

Suddenly, she tilted her head as the grin on her face faded slightly and was replaced by a curious look on her face.

"You’re in a bad mood," she said without question.

Dexter was a bit surprised but he simply shrugged. "Not particularly. How are you doing and how were sales today?"

The word "sales" was the magic incantation and Tessa’s grin returned instantly.

"Sales were fantastic!" she declared. "Way more customers than we expected. Some people came specifically to order your meals in batches this time."

"We sold the first thirty portions at the standard price in under eight hours. Then, for the remaining twenty portions, I even had to increase the price."

Dexter raised an eyebrow. "Increased it to what?"

"Eight thousand Dollars per portion."

Dexter stared at her.

"Eight thousand?"

"Eight thousand," Tessa said with a proud smile on her face. "The demand was so high that people were willing to pay double. I sold the last twenty portions at eight thousand each, and every single one was gone before closing."

She crossed her arms and tilted her chin upward.

"I’m smart, aren’t I?"

Dexter chuckled at her smartness and her cuteness.

"Yes, yes," he said. "You are definitely very smart."

And Dexter wasn’t even kidding. She had identified a supply-demand imbalance in real time, adjusted pricing on the fly, and maximized revenue without losing a single customer.

In a few years, with the right resources and guidance, Tessa was definitely going to be a force to be reckoned with in the business world.

Tessa pulled out her phone and transferred the day’s earnings to Dexter’s account.

Dexter’s phone buzzed and he checked the notification.

[Transfer received: 340,000 Dollars]

The number pushed his account balance back toward the seven-figure mark. The one million he had lost to Marcus’s scam was slowly being rebuilt.

Dexter smiled in relief. ’In no time, I should be able to recover.’

At that moment, Tessa’s expression suddenly shifted as her gaze turned serious.

"I heard about something happening today," she said casually. "In the city."

Dexter looked at her curious about what she was about to say.

"Harvest Homes was actually attacked by an angry customer," Tessa continued in a light but casual tone.

"It wa said that someone actually sent an executive of Harvest Homes flying out of the building with one punch."

"It was even said that if the executive wasn’t an Ultra Realm expert, they probably would have died from falling twenty-four floors."

Dexter’s expression didn’t change much but he raise an eyebrow of surprise and spoke.

"Really? That’s insane."

Tessa nodded and continued.

"The news tried to get information from Harvest Homes but they denied everything and even refused to share any details about the incident. It was really strange."

"Don’t you think that’s weird?"

Dexter stared at Tessa as he thought in his mind.

’Why is she telling me this specifically?’

Harvest Homes wasn’t the only incident in the city today as Stargate City was a metropolis of millions and things happened every day. Crimes, accidents, hero interventions, monster sightings.

But Tessa had chosen to tell him about this specific incident out of everything that had happened in the city today.

Which meant one of two things. Either she was making conversation and this was the most interesting thing she had heard today. Or she knew something.
