Investing In My Crippled Heroine Wives For Infinite Rebate
Chapter 85 | Sudden Attack I
Chapter 85: Chapter 85 | Sudden Attack I
The elevator was wrong.
Shira felt it before she heard it , the pressure shift in the shaft, the cable frequency dropping two beats below its standard rhythm. She had mapped the building’s mechanical signature in the first week. Elevator, normal: four distinct cable vibrations, consistent timing, slight acceleration on the third floor.
This was slower.
She set her spoon down.
Mira looked up from her bowl.
Not at Shira , toward her. The pale eyes aimed near her shoulder.
"The elevator," Shira said.
Mira already had the board.
How many.
"Can’t tell yet." Shira moved to the living room. She pressed her palm flat against the wall near the window. The Pressure Sense spread outward through the wall, through the corridor, into the building’s skeleton.
Three floors down. Two floors down.
Three distinct weight signatures. Walking like people who had been trained not to walk like themselves , even distribution, controlled pace. That was the tell. Civilians didn’t walk evenly. Heroes on duty didn’t either, unless they were trying not to be detected.
Combat-trained. Trying to be quiet.
She came back to the kitchen doorway.
"Three," she said. "Moving carefully. One floor below us."
Mira had already capped her tea and moved her bowl to the counter. The board was in her lap.
Floor.
"One below. Stairs or elevator , can’t tell yet."
Mira set her cane against the counter. Both hands free. She pressed her palms flat against the kitchen floor. The Sound Mapping went out immediately , Shira could not feel it but she knew it by the way Mira’s breathing steadied and her eyes went to a different kind of unfocused.
Thirty seconds.
Elevator, the board came up. Three of them. They got off one floor below. Moving toward the stairwell.
"Coming up one floor instead of taking the elevator to ours," Shira said. "They don’t want the elevator record to show this floor."
Yes.
"They know the building has camera records."
They’ve been here before. They know the layout.
Shira pressed her palm to the wall again. The three signatures were in the stairwell now — moving slowly, spacing themselves. One ahead. Two behind. Standard entry formation.
"Two minutes," she said.
Kai.
"Out." She looked at the door. "He’s at Denko’s office. Documentation signing."
Mira held the board.
Should we call him.
"Not yet." Shira moved to the center of the living room. "If we call him now he comes back fast and gets caught in the stairwell. Better he doesn’t know until it’s done."
Mira looked at the wall near her shoulder.
And if it’s not done.
"Then we call him."
Mira set the board on the counter. She picked up the marker. She uncapped it. She did not write anything. She just held the marker and pressed both palms back to the floor.
Shira positioned herself in the center of the living room.
She raised her right arm.
The shoulder rotation. The elbow. The forearm angle.
Not practice.
She felt the wind pressure build from the first movement — real, heavy, the kind that left marks. The signal moved from shoulder to forearm, hit the cutoff, crossed it. Fourteen beats. Fifteen. Sixteen.
She held sixteen.
She waited.
—--
The footsteps reached the landing outside their floor.
One. Two. Three.
They stopped at the door.
Mira’s palms were flat on the floor. She had her eyes closed. Through the Sound Mapping the hallway was completely mapped , three bodies, ninety kilos minimum each, positioned in the entry formation Shira had described. The lead operative had his hand on the door handle. She could feel the vibration of his grip through the floor joists.
She looked at Shira.
Shira looked at the door.
She dropped into full rotation.
The Gale Strike released at the moment the door opened.
Not a training release ,the full form, no reduction, no cutoff. The wind pressure hit the doorway like a wall. The lead operative got three steps in and the pressure caught him at the chest. He went back into the hallway hard , not slow, not stumbling. Immediate.
The second operative came in low.
Shira was already rotating for the second release. But the chair limited the angle — she could not track him below her sightline.
Mira’s Sound Mapping found him before Shira did.
The tactile resonance went through the floor , not a mapping pulse, a disruptive one. She sent the frequency at the specific resonance of a human skeletal structure under forward momentum. The operative’s footing disappeared from under him. Not tripped. Disrupted at the vibration level , his balance system simply stopped receiving accurate information from the floor for two seconds.
Two seconds was enough.
He hit the floor.
Shira’s third release caught him while he was down.
Two operatives. Hallway. Neither moving.
The third had not come in.
Shira held. She pressed her palm to the wall.
"He’s not at the door," she said.
Mira was already tracking him.
Stairwell. He went back down. He’s calling someone.
"He saw what happened to the other two."
Yes.
"Can you hold the frequency on him."
He’s moving. One floor below now. Two.
"Let him go."
She lowered her arm. The wind pressure in the living room dissipated. The front door was still open , she could see the two operatives in the hallway. Neither was unconscious. One was trying to stand. His left knee was not cooperating.
She looked at the door.
She looked at Mira.
"Call Kai," she said.
—-
Kai felt it through the Nerve Sense before his phone rang.
He was three floors below, taking the stairs two at a time. He had felt the Gale Strike release from the ground floor , the wind pressure moving through the building’s frame at the specific frequency of Shira’s full form. Not practice. Not the five a.m. version. The real one.
He took the last flight at a run.
The third operative was on the second landing. He had not expected anyone coming up from below.
Neither had Kai expected to run directly into him.
The operative threw first trained, fast, aimed at the throat. Kai was already inside the swing. He used the wall and took the impact on his left arm instead of his neck. The ribs on that side complained. He did not stop. Two exchanges at close range, the stairwell too narrow for anything else. The operative was larger and had reach. Kai had the Gale Strike Echo and nine meters of range in a three-meter stairwell.
He did not use the full form. He used the rotation sequence Shira had corrected three weeks ago , the elbow held, the weight centered, the initiation clean. The wind pressure at close range was different from open space. Contained. More concentrated.
