Chapter 11: Chapter 11: An Expensive Deal

The young woman frowned.

"Ethan, enough," she said, her voice cold enough to make the young man stop.

Evelyn Whitmore had been in an excellent mood before this.

She had finally gotten some time away from her usual responsibilities and had gone shopping with her closest friend. She had never invited Ethan Cross, yet somehow, he had managed to attach himself to them for the entire outing.

Ethan’s family had recently entered into a major partnership with the Whitmores, so Evelyn had maintained a certain level of courtesy toward him because of their parents.

Unfortunately, the more time she spent around him, the more she disliked him.

He behaved like a spoiled heir who believed money gave him the right to look down on everyone around him.

She had originally planned to ignore him until he became bored and left on his own.

Instead, he had just used her family’s influence to threaten a shopkeeper.

"Evelyn, I was only defending you," Ethan protested, looking genuinely offended that she had reprimanded him. "How can you blame me for that?" he added.

"Don’t call me Evelyn like we’re close," she said, her expression turning even colder.

"And don’t use my family’s name to intimidate people," she said, staring directly at him.

"Honestly, Ethan, I’d rather you stop coming around me altogether. I don’t enjoy having you around," she said, her words leaving no room for misunderstanding.

"She should have told you that a long time ago," Sophie Carter said, immediately adding her own voice and folding her arms as she glared at Ethan.

"Don’t think we haven’t heard about the things you did before Evelyn transferred to Arcadia Academy. How many girls did you lead on just because you enjoyed having them chase after you?" she said, not giving him a chance to respond.

"And when you couldn’t get the girl you wanted, you decided to start bothering Evelyn instead? Give it up. She’s never going to be interested in you," she finished.

Ethan’s face darkened, then turned crimson.

"Fine. Fine!" he snapped.

He looked between the two women, humiliated and furious.

"I’ll leave. But don’t think this is over," he said.

He turned toward the exit.

"My mother will hear about this. We’ll see who ends up regretting what happened today," he said.

Before leaving, Ethan cast one last hostile look toward Xavier.

Xavier almost laughed.

A moment ago, he’d been standing quietly and watching the entire exchange. Somehow, he’d now become a target despite doing absolutely nothing.

He stared after Ethan in disbelief.

What did I even do to this guy?

He had merely happened to be standing there.

"Seriously?" Xavier said, shaking his head.

"I didn’t say a single word to him," he added.

The situation was so ridiculous that he almost felt sorry for himself.

The Treasure Pavilion owner looked increasingly uncomfortable.

Evelyn, however, had already ignored Ethan completely.

She turned her attention toward Xavier and the shopkeeper.

"I’m sorry about that," she said, her expression softening slightly.

"Mr. Kane, would you be willing to sell that Frostveil Elixir to the Treasure Pavilion for two million crowns? I’ll then purchase it from them for 2.2 million," she offered.

The offer was straightforward.

And it carried the confidence of someone who clearly wasn’t worried about money.

Evelyn genuinely wanted the elixir.

Third Tier Frostveil Elixirs were rare enough that even someone from a wealthy family couldn’t simply purchase one whenever they wanted.

She wasn’t short on resources herself, but when something valuable appeared in front of her, she had no reason to pass it up.

She had originally come to buy the Heavenly Silk Armor.

Yet compared with that armor, the Frostveil Elixir interested her even more.

"There’s no need to involve me, Miss Whitmore. You and Mr. Kane can simply complete the transaction directly," the shopkeeper said, shaking his head immediately.

He wasn’t stupid.

Now that he knew who Evelyn was, there was no way he was going to risk earning a few hundred thousand crowns at the expense of offending her.

"Thank you," Evelyn said, smiling.

She then looked at Xavier.

"What do you think?" she asked.

"I’m fine with it," Xavier said, agreeing almost immediately.

The elixir was something he had obtained through the system anyway. He had come here intending to sell it.

If someone was willing to pay him two hundred thousand crowns more than the shopkeeper had originally offered, there was no reason for him to refuse.

Besides, Xavier knew exactly how powerful the Whitmore family was.

Whitmore Holdings and the Whitmore family were among the major powers in Valemont. They were certainly not weaker than the Sinclair family.

That gave Xavier an idea.
