Li Sisi fled, covering her face. Wu Cheng and Li Yuanyuan were now a couple, and their lovey-dovey behavior put off many of the students.

The students who had been watching the game left in small groups. The greatest courtesy they could show was to refrain from commenting.

An Ning hopped off the parallel bars, her initial interest in watching the drama completely gone. Watching such a sordid affair left a bad taste in her mouth.

She returned to her office, but she couldn’t even bring herself to read her romance novels.

In the end, An Ning lay back in her rocking chair, swaying back and forth with an empty mind.

At four in the afternoon, a call from Jiang Xia woke An Ning. She had zoned out and fallen asleep. He was already on his way.

“Okay, I’ll go wait for you at the gate.”

“You don’t have to come in to get me…” An Ning listened as Jiang Xia argued on the other end, saying something about how it wouldn’t be sincere if he didn’t come all the way in.

“But the thing is, your car can’t get in here! If you come in, I’ll just have to walk back out with you, and I don’t feel like walking.”

An Ning’s reasoning left Jiang Xia speechless. Finally, he managed to squeeze out, “Can’t you try to think about this a little more romantically?”

“Romance has to be practical, too. Just listen to me and wait there!”

An Ning hung up, gathered her things, and headed out the door.

To get there faster, An Ning took a shortcut that passed by the women’s dormitory.

“Li Sisi is going to jump!”

“Seriously? What’s so great about that Wu Cheng, anyway?”

“Who knows? Let’s go, quick!”

Students were running toward the dormitory in twos and threes. ‘Li Sisi… threatening to jump? Wasn’t she the star of this afternoon’s confession drama?’

‘So… foolish!’

An Ning quickly caught up with the students in front of her and sprinted ahead.

On the roof of the women’s dormitory, Li Sisi stood at the very edge, tossing pieces of paper down with one hand.

An Ning casually plucked one from the air. It read, “Wu Cheng and Li Yuanyuan, I’ll haunt you even as a ghost.”

‘This is it? This is your plan to make them regret it? Are you an idiot?’

An Ning tossed the paper aside and began observing the dormitory’s structure.

By now, campus security, counselors, and department heads had all arrived. A few of them had already gone up to the roof to try and talk her down.

After a quick scan, An Ning ran into the building without a second thought. She sprinted up to the top floor in one go, having already pinpointed the room directly below Li Sisi’s position.

The dorm room was locked. An Ning called out a few times, but there was no answer. With a single, clean kick, she broke the door open.

“When they get back, tell them An Ning did it! They can find me in the faculty building, and I’ll pay for the damages!”

As she spoke, she was already at the window. It was fitted with steel security bars, meant to prevent accidental falls—but all the precautions in the world couldn’t stop someone determined.

An Ning had no time for hesitation. Right then and there, she began to bend the steel bars with her bare hands.

Once the gap was wide enough for a person to pass through, An Ning squeezed her body through it, leaning out and looking up.

“I’ll make you regret this for the rest of your lives!”

With an enraged scream, Li Sisi jumped!

It was a decisive leap, one of absolute abandon!

“Idiot!”

An Ning shot out with surprising agility. One hand gripped the bent bars while she stretched out the other, managing to grab Li Sisi just in time.

But all she had caught was her clothing, which was thin and flimsy summer wear.

“AHHH—”

“Hurry, hurry up!”

By then, the fire department had arrived below and was inflating an air cushion. On the roof, a firefighter immediately began rappelling down to help An Ning.

“Let me go! Let me go!”

Li Sisi struggled violently, and the already strained fabric of her clothes tore with a loud RIP.

“Stop fucking moving!”

“You’d throw away your parents, your home, more than ten years of grueling study, all for someone who doesn’t even love you!”

The fabric under An Ning’s hand was clearly about to give way, and the steel bar she was gripping with her other hand began to wobble.

The firefighter rappelling from the roof scrambled past her, and his arrival allowed An Ning to breathe a small sigh of relief.

But before she could fully exhale, the fabric shredded completely.

“AHHH—NO!”

“NO—”

The crowd below screamed. The firefighter reacted instantly, clamping his legs around Li Sisi’s upper body. The two of them dangled precariously from a single rope, swinging back and forth.

The firefighter’s face was flushed crimson with effort. He didn’t dare open his mouth, fearing the slightest movement would cause the person below him to fall.

An Ning, still hanging on with one hand, felt her own body slipping. The gap between the bent bar and the window frame was widening.

“Don’t let go!”

Several students had come up at some point and now grabbed onto An Ning’s legs, all pulling her back with all their might.

Meanwhile, Li Sisi, still caught between the firefighter’s legs, was still struggling.

On the floor below, another firefighter was standing on the windowsill trying to grab Li Sisi, but she refused to cooperate. Veins bulged on the upper firefighter’s forehead, but he couldn’t stop her from gradually slipping down.

‘Damn it! You’re really trying to die, aren’t you? Fine, I’ll help you!’

An Ning turned and yelled at the students, “Let go!”

After shouting, she violently shook her legs, flinging off the hands that held her. Then, An Ning herself leaped out, shouting to the firefighter, “She’s mine! Release your legs!”

From the perspective of the crowd below, An Ning leaped down from the window, wrapped her arms around Li Sisi’s legs, and the two of them plummeted from the sky.

It all happened too fast. The instant An Ning grabbed her and they began to fall, Li Sisi latched onto An Ning’s body in a death grip.

She was truly terrified!

In that moment, she realized she didn’t actually want to die!

Subconsciously, she had been counting on someone to save her the whole time.

But now, in the instant she was actually falling, she was terrified. She didn’t want to die anymore.

THUMP—

The massive impact was mixed with Li Sisi’s piercing screams.

“AHHHHH—”

“AHHH—”

SLAP!

An Ning delivered a sharp slap, and Li Sisi went silent.

“Snapped out of it? If not, I can take you back up and we can try that again.”

With that, An Ning started to drag Li Sisi up, as if to get off the air cushion, muttering, “This time, let’s do it without the cushion.”

“Wouldn’t want it to slow down your death.”

“No, I don’t want to, I don’t want to! I don’t want to die, I don’t!”

Li Sisi scrambled backward, trying to break free from An Ning’s grasp while shaking her head frantically. She thought An Ning was terrifying.

“Not dying? What a shame. We’ve got such a big crowd, the stage is all set for you, and now you’re not going to die?”

Li Sisi stared at An Ning in terror, screaming frantically to the people around them, “Help, she’s crazy! Save me!”

The surrounding students seemed reluctant to get involved. Finally, a counselor and a few teachers came over to lead Li Sisi away.

One of the deans thanked An Ning and urged her to go get a medical checkup immediately, insisting that a fall from that height was not to be taken lightly.

“Thank you, I will.”

An Ning didn’t refuse, watching as the whole farce finally came to an end.

But from beginning to end, the new couple never once made an appearance.

“Love really makes people crazy.”

“Not necessarily. The right kind of love is destined to make both people better.”

An Ning turned around.

“Jiang Xia! I completely forgot about you!”
