Interstellar to 80s: A Scientist's Farming Mission
Chapter 582: How Lucky
Chapter 582: Chapter 597: How Lucky
An Ning issued the command: “Begin!”
Ten small combat robots materialized out of thin air. With their compact frames, advanced weaponry, and silent shots, they instantly eliminated numerous enemies.
Inside the room, An Ning immediately spun around.
With a THUD, someone in the corner collapsed.
The moment An Ning stepped out of the room, the men leering outside looked on in disbelief. ‘What’s happening?’ But when they saw the corpse inside, they all scrambled for their weapons.
The sound of gunfire was incessant. ‘But what in the world is going on?’
Why were the bullets stopping in mid-air right before they hit her? Why were they ricocheting off her body?
“You’re a demon! You’re a demon!”
“Oh my God, help!”
An Ning’s face was masked, and a voice modulator gave her a cold, judgmental tone.
“I’m hardly a demon compared to you.”
What followed was a completely one-sided victory.
Ironically, they got to witness the advanced technology they craved right before they died. It was just that this technology was being used on them.
The people imprisoned inside the cave only heard the commotion, but they didn’t see anyone.
However, several of the scientists assumed it was their own country’s rescue team and even began to argue about it.
Yu the Elder and Xu Cheng remained in the corner. Yu the Elder watched the chaos outside the bars with concern, hoping it was An Ning, yet at the same time, hoping it wasn’t.
Combat was merciless; he couldn’t bear the thought of her getting hurt.
When all the sounds had died down, a figure with an obscured face appeared before the room holding the scientists.
“Thank God, thank you for saving us.”
“Brave warrior, are you from Country M?”
“Impossible, they must be from our—”
“I’m from Huaxia Country.”
Wearing a mask and appearing much taller, An Ning ripped the bars open with one hand and gestured for Yu the Elder and Xu Cheng to come out first.
“Have you seen An Ning? Is she all right? She has to be all right.”
“Rest assured, she’s fine. She hasn’t been harmed in the slightest.”
Everyone was successfully rescued. Outside the cave, they basked in the sunlight, feeling its long-missed warmth.
But when they looked for the figure who had saved them, their rescuer had already vanished.
But the fact that Huaxia had rescued them all was something they would never forget.
An Ning, unnoticed by the others, slipped into the crowd and appeared at Yu the Elder’s side.
Yu the Elder finally felt his heart settle. His wits returning, he gave An Ning a questioning look, his eyes asking, ‘Was that you?’
An Ning nodded silently and whispered two words in his ear: “New technology.”
Yu the Elder was so stunned his jaw dropped. Finally, he declared in the Huaxia language, “Huaxia is secure!”
Next, the group of scientists easily located some radio equipment, contacted their respective personnel, and transmitted their coordinates.
All the group had to do was wait for rescue. After all, a bunch of academics with no combat ability would find it nearly impossible to cross a warzone.
The first country to arrive, without a doubt, was Huaxia.
Wang Qiang and Zhao Xin had been following a signal An Ning left behind. They were a little slow, but they had been trailing her the whole time.
The group was finally reunited. Zhao Xin gave An Ning a thorough head-to-toe inspection.
“Thank goodness you’re all right.”
An Ning just smiled without a word, letting Zhao Xin check her over.
After everyone had been checked over, Wang Qiang began arranging the next steps.
“Right now, all flights out of Country F are suspended because of a massive strike. Our best bet is to get to a neighboring country and fly home from there. The only problem is that this entire area is a warzone, so it’s dangerous.”
Everyone instinctively looked toward An Ning.
An Ning gave a slight smile and said to Wang Qiang, “I don’t know much about this, but I trust you.”
Wang Qiang nodded firmly, his finger tracing a red line on a map.
“We’ll go this way!”
“Got it!”
Once the route was decided, the group quickly got ready and set off.
As for the scientists from the other countries, they didn’t trust that a security detail of only two people could escort them safely through a warzone.
A car carrying five people departed from the cave area, following the route on the map.
Inside the car, An Ning held a drink in one hand and ate a piece of bread with the other. If you ignored the ochre sand dunes outside, it almost felt like they were on a picnic.
After about two hours of driving, the roar of battle became audible.
Wang Qiang hung the Huaxia flag on both sides of the vehicle and slowly pulled to a stop before a roadblock. He placed both hands out the window to show they were friendly.
Their goal was a safe return home, not to show off how capable they were.
A moment later, someone approached from the roadblock to inspect them. Wang Qiang and Xu Cheng immediately showed they were unarmed and explained they were just trying to pass through to a neighboring country to fly home.
The man inspected their passports and asked, “Are you really Huaxia people?”
“Absolutely! Look at us—black hair, black eyes, strong features, tall builds. We’re definitely from Huaxia.”
Perhaps it was because Xu Cheng’s words were so amusing, but the man laughed.
“Go on through. Huaxia is a good friend to us. You brought us electricity.”
Hearing this, they all thought of the Huaxia Power Company.
The first contracts the Huaxia Power Company signed weren’t with developed nations, but with countries like this one that needed help.
They were now enjoying the shade from a tree someone else had planted.
The group passed through without any trouble. Along the way, they even received a warm send-off from soldiers lining the road.
At that moment, a sense of national pride swelled within them. Pride, honor… ‘Our country is growing stronger.’
After smoothly passing the roadblock, the car drove for another three hours and finally reached the border.
Once again, thanks to the goodwill generated by the Huaxia Power Company, the group crossed without issue and successfully met with a diplomat.
But there was little time for small talk; the most important thing was to get on the plane and head home.
The group was quickly ushered onto a plane, bringing their fantastical journey to an end.
The moment An Ning stepped onto the plane, Jiang Xia received a message confirming she was safe.
But Jiang Xia didn’t know which flight she was on.
He only knew one thing: he couldn’t wait any longer.
Jiang Xia dropped everything and drove to the airport. He decided to wait for every single flight arriving from her direction.
He waited for over ten hours.
His face covered in stubble, his mind groggy from the long wait, Jiang Xia finally saw her.
The moment he saw An Ning walk out of the arrivals gate, he burst into tears.
He cried like a fool, unable to stop, utterly mortified.
Jiang Xia had come here, heart full of passion, ready to confess his feelings. But after waiting for over ten hours, when he caught his reflection—stubble-faced, red-eyed, a runny nose from crying—he instantly lost his nerve.
There was a sudden clatter. An Ning walked right past, completely oblivious.
And Jiang Xia?
He emerged from behind a trash can, despising himself.
