Interstellar to 80s: A Scientist's Farming Mission
Chapter 534 - 549: A Bloody Disaster
On their second night at the nightclub, Brother Hu personally escorted An Ning and Zhao Pandi there, and they changed into their work outfits.
An Ning and Zhao Pandi arrived a bit early today. The two newcomers sat in the dressing room, listening to the others talk.
Most of the women here weren’t from Hong Kong. Their backgrounds were similar to Zhao Pandi’s; they all dreamed of making a name for themselves in the city.
"Alright, alright, everyone out!"
"If you have time to stand around gossiping, you should be making yourselves presentable."
The madam appeared and led a group of women away.
This time, An Ning and Zhao Pandi were given special attention and placed at the front of the line.
After the head madam went home yesterday, the more she thought about it, the more something felt off. Today, she started the night’s work, determined to redeem herself from yesterday’s embarrassment.
In the third room, An Ning and Zhao Pandi were finally picked by a client.
An Ning’s gaze fell upon Uncle Jiang’s secretary. She stood as still as a wooden statue in a trance, not moving an inch. Even her eyes changed color.
"Hey, hey, Grape, what’s gotten into you? Greet the gentlemen!"
"Gentlemen, she’s new here and doesn’t know the ropes yet. Please don’t mind her!"
With just a few words, the madam had revealed that An Ning was a newbie. But in the next second, the plastered-on smile on her face cracked.
"You... face a bloody calamity."
An Ning, dressed in a sparkling miniskirt, pointed a single finger at Uncle Jiang’s secretary and, right off the bat, told him he was facing a bloody calamity.
Zhao Pandi, who had been watching from the sidelines, almost coughed up blood. ’This is An Ning’s brilliant plan?’
’How is this any different from the charlatans back home? And can she really be this blunt? She’s going to get herself beaten up, isn’t she?’
Sure enough, before Zhao Pandi could even finish her thought, Uncle Jiang’s secretary, Mr. Hao, who was sitting down, laughed with disdain. "Is this your ploy to get my attention? Not very clever."
"AHAHAHAHAHA!"
The room erupted in boisterous laughter.
Mr. Hao set down his glass, picked up a nearby bottle, and filled the glass to the brim. He then slid it forward with one finger.
"Drink this, and I’ll forgive you."
"Go on! Brother Hao’s in a good mood today. Hurry and thank him."
The madam pushed An Ning from behind, but An Ning just glanced back over her shoulder. The look she gave was so terrifying that the madam shrieked and nearly fainted.
’What in the world was that look?’
She felt as if she had been stared down by King Yan himself—the feeling that if he commanded you to die at a certain hour, you would have no choice but to obey.
Zhao Pandi felt the time was right. She immediately stepped in front of An Ning. "Little sis, didn’t you promise me you wouldn’t pull this stunt? The things you learned from that blind man in our village are all fake, you know that!"
"Don’t say another word! Not one more word!"
Zhao Pandi looked utterly frantic. After scolding An Ning, she turned to apologize to Brother Hao and his group.
"I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry, it’s all my fault. My little sister was swindled when she was young. She learned some so-called fortune-telling from a blind man, so our family tries not to let her speak."
Far from getting An Ning off the hook, Zhao Pandi’s explanation actually made Brother Hao, who was still seated, a little more serious. For the first time, his gaze fell on An Ning’s eyes.
One look was all it took. That deathly gaze sent a chill down Brother Hao’s spine.
’There’s something uncanny about this girl,’ he thought. ’Whether it’s real Mysticism or not, she’s definitely not normal.’
"What a jinx! Get them out of here! Scram, scram, scram!"
At Brother Hao’s shouting, An Ning and Zhao Pandi were led away. They weren’t taken to any other rooms; instead, they went straight back to the dressing room, changed out of their outfits, and waited for their shift to end.
When Brother Hu got word and came over, he found An Ning and Zhao Pandi happily eating from a fruit platter.
"Eat, eat, eat! You still have the nerve to be eating!"
"What did you promise me? Don’t you want to live the high life anymore?"
"Don’t you still want to—"
Brother Hu trailed off.
Because An Ning had spoken again.
"You... will face disaster by water."
"Sh-she’s not mute?"
Brother Hu hadn’t even registered what An Ning said. He just stared at Zhao Pandi, a look of betrayal on his face.
Zhao Pandi played dumb, looking at Brother Hu and asking, "Did I ever say she was mute?"
"..."
Brother Hu thought hard. ’Come to think of it, she never did.’
’But if she’s not mute, why hasn’t she said a single word this whole time?’
"So, you two have been tricking me, haven’t you? Why, you little hussies—"
Brother Hu’s massive hand was about to come down, but it was stopped in mid-air by a small, delicate hand. With a casual toss, he was sent flying to the doorway.
With a series of CRASHES and CLATTERS, Brother Hu landed in a heap by the door, completely dumbfounded. ’What just happened?’
An Ning walked forward step by step. She made a few gestures in the air with one hand, and a visible red light appeared. Then, with a single finger, she pressed the light into the center of Brother Hu’s forehead.
"This will save your life."
After she spoke, An Ning’s entire demeanor changed in an instant. Her eyes returned to normal, and she was once again that same quiet, well-behaved little girl.
Zhao Pandi came up from behind, quickly pulled Brother Hu to his feet, and began brushing off his clothes with both hands.
"Brother Hu, please don’t mind my sister. Her head’s not screwed on right. She spends all day at home telling people’s fortunes."
"Sigh, you have no idea. Not a single good word ever comes out of my sister’s mouth. If she says someone will get hurt, they get hurt. If she says someone will die, they die. How could we let that continue? That’s why we try to keep her from talking."
Zhao Pandi’s reassurance had no effect whatsoever.
"That red... what the hell was that thing? What kind of game are you two playing?"
Zhao Pandi grabbed Brother Hu’s arm, acting grateful. "Brother Hu, my sister thinks you’re a good person, so she was helping you. Didn’t she say she’d save your life?"
"I don’t know if she’s accurate or not, but you can see for yourself."
’See for myself?’
Brother Hu wanted to curse up a storm. ’Is this the kind of fucking thing you can just ’see for yourself’?!’
But An Ning’s bizarre behavior, coupled with her incredible strength, made Brother Hu swallow his words.
Still, he couldn’t just stomach this humiliation. His face fell, and he snorted coldly. "Since that’s how it is, you don’t need me anymore!"
"You’re on your own. Don’t come looking for me again!"
Brother Hu turned and left, slamming the dressing room door so hard it rattled.
After Brother Hu left, An Ning and Zhao Pandi exchanged a look and went back to eating their fruit.
"You have no idea, I’ve been constipated for the past two days."
Zhao Pandi picked up a banana and began to eat it, bite by bite.
"Actually, bananas aren’t great for constipation. Dragon fruit is more effective."
"Really?"
"Really."
Zhao Pandi switched to a piece of dragon fruit and began to eat.
After finishing the fruit platter, the two left the nightclub at a leisurely pace. They didn’t head back to their "pigeon coop," but instead wandered the streets.
A few clueless thugs tried to invite the two of them for a drink, so Zhao Pandi, whose fists had been itching for a fight, decided to "take care" of them.
After the fight, Zhao Pandi’s mood was as bright and clear as a crisp autumn day.
"See? Getting physical is the most effective form of communication."
"Agreed."
The two of them squatted at the mouth of an alley and watched a car crash. An Ning then turned to Zhao Pandi and said two words: "It’s done."
The two of them left, found a hotel to check into, and waited for the fish to take the bait.
Meanwhile, Brother Hu was found by Uncle Jiang’s associate, Mr. Hao.
