Chapter 507: A Master’s Gift, Comprehending the Law of Light!

  • Next Chapter

This was terrifying.

A perfectly good teammate, turned into an octopus in the next second? Something that just kept attacking everyone around it? Nobody had ever heard of a beast like this in their lives.

This, frankly, was not something a god ought to be capable of. It was clearly the work of a demon.

No matter how loudly the victims screamed, no matter how they struggled, Rotes — the adorable little octopus — just kept working away, tirelessly. Guoguo took one look at Rotes and immediately asked to be excused from God’s Domain. She’d only shown up to sing.

"Woo la la woo... I’m a cute little octopus, oo la la woo... you’re all going to become octopuses too...~"

"Woo la la woo... I’m Rotes, woo la la woo... you’re all going to die~-~~"

Set to that grating, brainwash-worthy little tune, Rotes played on, more delighted by the second. She’d even started inventing entire octopus races along the way — mouthpart-studded octopus monstrosities here, slime-covered squid-murlocs there. All of it, without exception, deeply unpleasant to look at.

Except for Guoguo, who’d stuck around just to sing, every other goddess present had already stopped watching entirely. Otherwise they were fairly sure they’d throw up whatever they’d had for supper.

At last, after ten days of relentless slaughter, Liu Che finally claimed the law of speed. But the law that had lost its original master carried the dark hand of the Haoran God System buried inside it — use it, and he’d be marked without question. Even fate itself couldn’t hide him from that mark once triggered.

Liu Che studied the imprint sitting stubbornly inside the law, the one that refused to be scrubbed out, and let a scornful smile cross his face.

"Did you really think I was that stupid? Fine. If it can’t be erased, I’ll just trade it away."

He couldn’t use it himself, but he could hand it off to the manager of his own God System and have it exchanged with the upper realm for a different, complete law instead. Something as rare as a law of speed would be in high demand.

When Chi Huang Liuyan received the request, she couldn’t help smiling at once. "This little rascal is actually pretty entertaining. Fine, humor him — ask what law he’s short on."

"Reporting to the Master. When Liu Che sent the law over, he said as long as it’s a basic law, he’s not picky."

"Heh... so this little troublemaker is trying to bank a favor off me, is he? Well, I’m not about to be accused of taking advantage of a junior, so...

Give him a fire law. And a light law, too."

"This... Master, are you certain—"

"That’s an order. Do you have a problem with it?"

"Your servant would never presume."

"Hmph. Get yourself down to the Sin Tower for this, and don’t come back out for three thousand years."

"...Yes, Master."

The priest broke out in a cold sweat, knelt, and backed out of the room.

The Sin Tower was where their God System punished its wrongdoers — sealed off by divine power, forced to live and suffer like a mere mortal, subjected to the same daily cycle of pain over and over.

Chi Huang Liuyan lay on her side across her jade bed, her flame-bright eyes cold as ever. Once the priest had gone, she murmured softly to herself, "Fewer and fewer people left these days who actually understand what I want. As long as it helps me win Liu Che over, two low-tier laws are nothing at all."

Basic laws they might be, but they were still treasures by the standards of the mid-tier God Realm. To someone at the level of a true ruler, though, it hardly mattered how many she gave away. Across countless epochs, there was bound to be no shortage of things worth collecting.

The next day, Liu Che stared blankly at the two laws floating inside the treasure box in front of him.

Was something wrong here? One request, two laws in return? And the light-system law in particular was an extraordinarily precious thing to just be handed.

"Master Liu Che, there’s no need to be so surprised. The Grand Master gave this to you personally this time — she said you’d made her very happy."

"I see. Then please pass along my thanks to her."

"There’s no need to be so formal about it. Just focus on your cultivation. The Grand Master did say — don’t always act on impulse. It’s a good thing to sit back and observe more. Like this time, for instance. If you ever feel you’ve been wronged, you can always come to her."

"Thank you, Grand Master, then," Liu Che said politely, a small satisfaction blooming in his chest. It seemed the Grand Master was genuinely pleased with him. Wasn’t that as good as gaining a powerful backer? The Grand Master hadn’t lifted a finger herself this time, true — but she’d made her position clear all the same.

Back in his own God’s Domain, Liu Che examined the two laws in his hands carefully. The fire law was clear and translucent, slightly weaker than the one he already carried, but carrying different properties woven through it.

"System, integrate both laws into the world of God’s Domain!"

"Yes, host."

A moment later, the laws in Liu Che’s grasp dissolved away, folding themselves into the fabric of God’s Domain.

"Ding... Your fire law has been perfectly integrated into the realm of God’s Domain. Your current fire law now stands at Tier Two, 98% — you may now comprehend a stronger form of fire power."

"Congratulations on your fire law breakthrough! All believers with the fire attribute have had their strength raised by one full level!"

...

"Ding... Your light-system law has been perfectly integrated into the realm of God’s Domain. You have now comprehended the complete law of light. Your current light law stands at Tier One, 70%."

"Congratulations on comprehending the law of light! All believers with the light attribute have had their strength raised by one full level!"

Liu Che’s face lit up with joy. That was right — if these two laws could go on to devour the laws of all six remaining elements, he should be able to advance a full stage. Now that would be something.

As the laws underpinning God’s Domain grew denser, believers throughout it advanced right along with them, one after another. It set off a wave of chatter across the entire Ten Thousand Realms group.

Tanjirou: "Wow... the power of the gods just keeps getting stronger. Does this mean the war of the gods is over? Fire and light believers just got a boost."

....

Ninja scientist: "Unlucky for me, mine’s neither of those two. Ugh... this stings. jpg"

Ordinary Ye Laohei: "Wuhu, brother just leveled up!! Nothing cooler than this, I’m taking my shirt off right now..."

He was the chief priest of the fire attribute. He’d jumped straight to the first tier, catching right back up with Chu Xuanfeng’s progress. Between the two of them, they’d become something of a benchmark among the priests.

Judicial God: "My power’s improved too. I didn’t expect a handful of surface-level light spells to still carry this much weight. Genuinely impressive..."

Pirates of the Caribbean: "Sounds like a large-scale battle’s brewing. My captain, Liu Ning, hasn’t been seen at home lately — probably off fighting somewhere."

Pursuing sentient beings: "I got bumped up a level too, heh... didn’t see that coming, did you?"

Bearded swordsman: "Aren’t you supposed to be a bald donkey? Since when did you become chief priest of the light element!! I refuse to accept this..."

Junior Brother Dazhufeng: "Don’t get sour about it, Yan Chixia. Our Buddha’s arts are famous for their light attribute — no surprise we’re getting upgraded at this stage too."

Second Li: "We start fighting again in a few days. Everyone get ready. Don’t let this distract you."

General Yuwen: "Relax, I’ve already squared my head away — I’m ready to fight whenever. I want to take on ten enemies at my level, all at once!!"

Blond boy Sam: "Madman. Or maybe it’s just Yuwentuo who’s the madman here."

Ding... The God of Eternity uploaded six videos.

Just as everyone had finished stirring each other up, Liu Che sent out the battle footage.
