Infinite Disasters: I Hoarded My Way to Godhood
Chapter 97: Rescue Video, Cyber Kitten
Chapter 97: Chapter 97: Rescue Video, Cyber Kitten
"Captain Brooks! It’s bad! The upstream dam broke! A flood! A massive flood is rushing down! We don’t have time to evacuate!"
A young soldier, his face still showing a hint of boyishness, pointed at the roaring flood crest in the distance, which looked like a yellow city wall. His voice cracked with fear.
Justin Brooks had just lifted an elderly man with mobility issues onto the last, jam-packed lifeboat when he heard the shout and whipped his head around.
His pupils contracted as he watched the turbid, colossal waves bearing down on them with the force of a landslide.
There wasn’t enough time for everyone to evacuate!
He made an instant decision, roaring at the young soldier, "Lowe! Get the lifeboat to high ground, now! Go! Don’t look back!"
"Captain Brooks! What about you?!" Lowe yelled, his voice laced with anxiety.
"Follow orders! I’ll figure something out!" Justin Brooks’s tone was decisive and left no room for argument.
After speaking, he turned and, against the current, resolutely charged toward the surging flood!
The people on the lifeboat watched, stunned, wondering what this soldier was about to do.
Justin Brooks walked to the very edge of the flood’s path. Facing the monstrous waves, he took a deep breath and swung his arm.
The next moment, something happened that no one would ever forget.
The ground began to tremble violently!
With a tremendous RUMBLE, thick, rough, yet incredibly solid rock walls shot up from the ground, bursting through the water’s surface like bamboo shoots after a spring rain!
They connected and reinforced one another, forming an incredibly sturdy rock dam tens of meters long in the blink of an eye!
It was Justin Brooks’s Ability: [Wall].
BOOM!!!
The terrifying crest of the flood slammed into the rock dam with a deafening crash. The water was forcibly blocked and diverted, but the dam stood firm, unmoving!
The people on the lifeboat, having narrowly escaped death, stared dumbfounded, as if witnessing a miracle!
In the crowd, a rescued middle schooler subconsciously raised a phone that still worked and clearly recorded the entire event: Justin Brooks raising the Stone Wall with a wave of his hand to block the torrent.
Driven by the thrill of survival and the shock of witnessing supernatural power, he instinctively uploaded the video to the internet.
The title was simple: [SHOCKING! Flood Hits, Official Player Takes Action, Absolutely Shocking On-Site Footage!]
At first, the video could be mistaken for a touching scene of flood relief efforts.
But when the footage of the Stone Wall rising from thin air appeared, the entire internet exploded again!
[HOLY SHIT?! What is this?! Special effects?!]
[It’s real! I was on a rescue boat nearby! I saw it with my own eyes! The officer just waved his hand, and a stone wall popped up!]
[A Player! That’s definitely a Player! And it’s the power of an official Player!]
[The government totally knew all along! And there are already Players working for the country!]
[So cool! That Ability is so practical! This is how an Ability should be used!]
[Respect! That’s a true hero!]
The video spread like a virus, not only showcasing the might of a Player’s Ability but also sending a powerful message.
The government wasn’t just acknowledging the existence of Players; it was already effectively organizing and utilizing this power to protect order and public safety.
This undoubtedly served as a shot in the arm for the panicked public, causing more people to re-evaluate the "Player" community and the government’s conscription order.
Seraphina Sullivan saw the video too. She stared at the steady figure and the rising Stone Wall on her screen, silent for a long time.
’Times have really changed.’
"Justin Brooks’s Ability really works wonders in a situation like this," Seraphina Sullivan murmured, watching the viral video on her phone.
Controlling rock, building dams... during a massive flood, it was practically a strategic-level Ability.
"Master, I’m hungry!" Just then, Flora’s mental fluctuations reached her again, breaking her train of thought. A vine gently poked her arm to emphasize the point.
With a sigh, Seraphina pulled a large, dressed pig—one she had picked up from the slaughterhouse earlier—directly from her Space.
Flora joyfully extended its vines, wrapped them around the pig, and its giant flower bud opened. In a few quick motions, it swallowed the entire pig, making soft, satisfied chewing sounds.
"At the rate you eat, no matter how much I stockpile, it won’t be enough for you," Seraphina couldn’t help but retort.
Flora immediately sent a wave of "shy" and "well-behaved" emotions: "I’ll protect Master! That’s why I need to eat a lot to have Power!"
Seraphina: ...
Meanwhile, Seraphina hadn’t been idle either.
While she trained, Sean Chandler was busy getting used to his new Cat Form.
The speed, agility, and balance in his Cat Form all required practice and development.
The only problem was, every time the guy changed back from a cat into a person, he inevitably found himself in the awkward situation of being stark naked.
Seraphina finally couldn’t stand it anymore. She rummaged through her Space and pulled out a [Mechanical Fiber Combat Suit Set] she had previously crafted using her [Tailor] Profession and some special materials she’d found.
This suit had two very practical Effects:
First, [Comfortable Fit]: It perfectly conforms to the wearer’s body and automatically adjusts its size to any changes in their shape.
Second, [Steel Armor]: It provides impressive physical defense.
"Put this on."
Seraphina handed the suit to Sean Chandler. "When you turn into a cat, the clothes should shrink with you, so they won’t hinder your movement. Plus, the armor Effect can make up for your Cat Form’s weak defense."
Sean Chandler did as she said and put it on.
The black combat suit fit his body perfectly, making him look lean and powerful.
With a thought, he instantly transformed into a small black cat.
Sure enough, the combat suit magically shrank along with him, turning into an extremely well-fitted "kitty tactical vest" with a metallic sheen. It even had an opening for his tail.
Seraphina looked at the little black cat before her, wearing a cyberpunk-style tactical vest with the same old aloof expression in its eyes, and couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
"Hmm, not bad! If we got you a miniature electronic eye or some sunglasses, you’d be a full-on cyberpunk cat! Very cool!"
As she was looking through her Space, her gaze unintentionally fell upon a card that had been sitting in a corner collecting dust.
[Weapon Fusion Card].
’This thing... ever since I got it, I haven’t been able to decide who to use it on.’
Seraphina was conflicted.
The equipment she had, the [Sound Wave Vibration Gun], was good for detection and interference, and the [Analysis Glasses] were a support-type Divine Artifact.
Most of her other items were clothing and props...
Nothing seemed to particularly need fusion or enhancement. Forcing a fusion would probably be a waste.
’Forget it. The good stuff always comes later. I’ll just hoard it for now. I’ll think about it again when I get a more powerful or unique weapon.’
She decided to continue her pack-rat ways and put the card back into her Space.
However, just as she made this decision and was about to resume her training...
"AHHH—!!! Help me!!!"
