Chapter 2: Chapter 2: The Game Begins, Super Hearing Aberration

Seraphina Sullivan gasped at the sight, forcing herself to calm down.

She had to leave this room immediately and find a safe place to hide.

But before that, she needed to find a weapon to protect herself.

Seraphina Sullivan scanned her surroundings. The cramped dorm room contained only simple furniture and daily necessities.

’I wonder how many Players are in this instance... Or have all the chosen Players from Azure Star been thrown into this game to survive?’ Seraphina muttered to herself.

She looked outside. The world didn’t resemble a game instance at all; it felt more like a parallel universe.

People were crying out in alarm at the appearance of the strange meteors.

The sounds echoed in Seraphina’s ears.

She shook her head. ’Stop thinking about other Players. I need to focus on myself. How am I supposed to survive when I’m so weak?’

Seraphina was well aware of her own limitations. When it came to fighting, she was useless.

In this brutal Disaster Game, there was no telling if other Players would stab her in the back to survive.

She was a big fan of apocalypse novels, after all.

In an environment like this, trust was a luxury.

Seraphina began to rummage through the room.

She pulled open drawers, flipped the mattress, and even checked the top of the wardrobe, but aside from a few textbooks and daily necessities, she couldn’t find a single decent weapon.

All she found was a face mask.

’Are you kidding me?’ she grumbled under her breath. ’This dorm room is ridiculously clean. A burglar would probably leave a dollar out of pity.’

Time was ticking by, and Seraphina knew she couldn’t delay any longer. After one last scan of the room confirmed there were no usable weapons, she resolved to leave.

’What exactly are these Aberrations from outer space?’ she wondered, her mind racing as she carefully turned the doorknob.

’If they’re alien creatures, it would be wise to stay far away from the areas struck by meteors. The best strategy is to avoid danger as much as possible. If I’m not mistaken, those weren’t simple meteors, but Aberrations... or their eggs.’

The door creaked open, and Seraphina cautiously peered into the hallway.

Luckily, the hallway was empty, with only a few flickering emergency lights providing dim illumination.

Seraphina thought about how she was going to survive in an instance the system had labeled "easy."

’With my Scavenging Backpack Ability, I just need to stock up on some supplies and find a safe place. The seven-day survival mission should be doable.’

Seraphina understood her situation perfectly.

She didn’t have the world-shattering superpower of some character like The Overlord. In this treacherous instance, playing it safe and just trying to stay alive was the smart move.

Seraphina hurried down the stairs.

However, when she burst through the dormitory’s main entrance, the scene before her made her freeze.

The street was surprisingly crowded. People were gathered in small groups, gazing up at the sky with faces full of excitement and curiosity.

Some were filming with their phones, others were chattering loudly, and someone even shouted in excitement, "Look! Another meteor!"

Seraphina was stunned.

’These people... Aren’t they Players?’

She instantly became wary, subconsciously slowing her pace as her eyes quickly scanned the area.

Her caution was a stark contrast to the cheerful, relaxed atmosphere of the crowd, making her stick out like a sore thumb.

Seraphina immediately changed her demeanor. If these people were the instance’s Native People, acting too strangely could attract unwanted attention.

The system had warned her not to reveal her Player identity to anyone in the instance.

Seraphina suddenly remembered that she still hadn’t tested two of the Abilities from her [Worker] Talent, especially [Eye of Resume].

’Isn’t this the perfect time to test it?’

Her gaze locked onto a young man who had just run past her, and she thought, ’Eye of Resume!’

Instantly, lines of translucent text materialized in her vision:

[Name: Kyle Parker]

[Gender: Male]

[Professional Skills: Cooking (Specializes in Sichuan cuisine)]

[Weaknesses: Afraid of his wife!]

[Note: Native of the Alien Apocalypse instance]

Seraphina’s pupils contracted in surprise.

’So that’s how it works... [Eye of Resume] lets me see a target’s basic information and Weaknesses!’

She immediately understood the value of this Ability. In an instance, being able to distinguish between Players and Native People was crucial.

And knowing someone’s Weaknesses could be incredibly useful at a critical moment.

A flicker of happiness crossed Seraphina’s face, but she quickly suppressed it as she looked toward the sound of a sudden explosion in the distance.

Chaos erupted.

Seraphina pulled on her mask and ducked into a small supermarket. The clerk was outside watching the meteor shower, leaving the store empty. Without hesitation, Seraphina headed straight for the food section and began shoving items into her Scavenging Backpack.

Bread, chips, cookies, instant noodles, sausages, milk candies, mineral water—anything edible went into the Scavenging Backpack.

’Having extra Space is so convenient.’

Worried about being discovered, Seraphina quickly left after her first sweep of the store.

Seraphina also found some fruit knives and cleavers in the kitchenware aisle, grabbing those as well. They could be used for self-defense.

The moment Seraphina burst out of the supermarket, the scene before her made her blood run cold.

Not far away, a massive meteor, like a giant Fireball, slammed into the ground with a deafening roar. The earth trembled violently, and the resulting shock wave overturned cars and street stalls.

Before the smoke and dust could settle, a twisted black figure slowly crawled out of the impact crater.

It was a monster with long, slender limbs and reverse-jointed legs. Its body was pitch-black, covered in a metallic sheen.

It had no eyes on its head, only a gaping maw filled with spiraling Sharp Teeth. Two sharp bone blades extended from the ends of its forelimbs, glinting coldly in the firelight.

’This... is an Aberration?!’ Seraphina’s pupils constricted.

The next second, the monster launched itself forward, moving so fast it was little more than a blur.

It pounced with deadly precision toward the nearest group of screaming people, its bone blade piercing a man’s chest as easily as slicing through tofu.

Blood sprayed through the air. One scream had barely started before a second person was sliced in half at the waist.

The street instantly devolved into a hellish scene of chaos.

People began to scream and scatter, but the monster was like a precision killing machine, each leap accompanied by a spray of blood and gore.

It had no vision, yet it could lock onto its prey through some other sense.

Seraphina’s face was ashen. Her stomach churned, and she fought a powerful urge to vomit, but her mind forced her to remain calm.

She stared intently at the monster and thought, ’Eye of Resume!’

In an instant, a set of data appeared before her eyes:

[Name: Pryros]

[Gender: Male]

[Professional Skills: Super Hearing, Sharp Blade Claw]

[Weaknesses: Lacks vision and cannot see. Relies on hearing to move. Extremely sensitive to high-frequency sound waves.]

’So that’s it. This Aberration monster finds its targets by sound,’ Seraphina thought, watching the creature slaughter its way through the crowd.

Seraphina realized that as long as she didn’t make any loud noises, she might be able to get through this.

She carefully backed away, stooping to pick up a phone off the ground that was still recording.

She closed the video app and opened the phone’s map, searching for the nearest hospital.
