Infinite Disasters: I Hoarded My Way to Godhood
Chapter 193: The Hostage Plan, an Opportunity to Take Out the RV
Chapter 193: Chapter 193: The Hostage Plan, an Opportunity to Take Out the RV
Seraphina Sullivan quickly made her decision.
She would head to the official safe zone.
"But I can’t just go there directly. I need to make some preparations," Seraphina murmured to herself.
Once she entered a Shelter under official jurisdiction, she would inevitably be under some degree of surveillance, and her movements would be restricted.
Under everyone’s watchful eyes, she couldn’t just vanish into thin air or pull out large amounts of supplies.
Her greatest secret, the Scavenger’s Farm space, must never be exposed.
’It would be great if I had a relatively private space to act as a springboard...’ Seraphina mused.
’For example, a vehicle. I could get in the car, then enter the Scavenger’s Farm from inside. That way, no one would notice anything unusual.’
Seraphina recalled that she did have an RV stored in her Space, one she’d collected before.
But that brought a practical problem.
’How can I get the RV out of my Space without attracting attention?’
Making a car materialize out of thin air in plain sight was basically an announcement to everyone that she was trouble.
She needed to find the right time and place.
While Seraphina was still trying to figure out a plan, a few uninvited guests were using the cover of the swirling snowstorm to silently creep up to Keith Griffith’s door back in the residential complex.
"KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK."
After three rhythmic knocks on the door, it swung open, and a nervous Keith Griffith ushered the group inside.
The man in the lead was none other than Gene Morton.
His face was a bit pale, and his Aura seemed unstable.
The last Doomsday Game instance had left him with serious injuries. He was still recovering, and his brow was furrowed with annoyance at being disturbed.
"Keith Griffith, you contacted me urgently. What in the world is going on?"
Gene Morton’s voice was hoarse, carrying an intimidating edge.
Keith Griffith quickly lowered his voice and said urgently, "Morton, it’s bad! The officials came by today to announce that Vorlag City’s Safe Zone No. 1 has been built. Residents can go there for shelter on their own!"
"I’m afraid Sean Chandler and his girlfriend, Seraphina Sullivan, will go with them to the official Shelter! If they get on official territory, all our plans will go down the drain! That’s why I had to contact you so urgently."
"What do you think... should we make our move now? Play hardball and force Sean Chandler to join us?"
At Keith Griffith’s words, Gene Morton’s brow furrowed.
The establishment of the official safe zone had indeed thrown a wrench in his plans.
He glanced at the two men behind him. They were rookie Players who had only recently joined his team. Their strength was average, but they should be more than enough to handle ordinary people.
’Sean Chandler... he’s pretty strong, but from what you’ve said, he seems to really care about that woman, Seraphina Sullivan. He’s just one guy, and he’s dragging along dead weight...’
Gene Morton quickly ran the calculations in his head, figuring the odds of success were high.
"Hmm... an opportunity like this is fleeting."
A ruthless glint flashed in Gene Morton’s eyes.
"We’ll do as you say. We’ll get him under Control before they can leave for the safe zone! As long as we have the woman hostage, we won’t have to worry about Sean Chandler refusing to fall in line!"
Seeing Gene Morton agree, Keith Griffith’s face lit up.
He eagerly volunteered, "Great! I’ll figure out a way to lure the woman out first. Morton, you and your men can set up an ambush. Once we have his girlfriend, Sean Chandler will have no choice but to obey. That guy is crazy about his girlfriend!"
And so, a plan to kidnap Seraphina Sullivan began to quietly take shape in a snow-swept corner of the residential complex.
Meanwhile, even though Seraphina hadn’t figured out how to get the RV out of her Space without attracting attention, she wasted no time getting to work.
She quickly began gathering every valuable, portable item in the house.
The sofa, mattress, bedding, tables, chairs... if it could fit into her Space, she took it.
In the apocalypse, these items were precious resources. More importantly, with them, no matter where she was, she could instantly create a comfortable, warm little home for herself just by entering the Scavenger’s Farm.
This was crucial for maintaining her sanity in the treacherous, crisis-ridden world.
Just as she was storing the last set of bedding in her Space, there was a knock on her door.
Seraphina went to the door and peered through the peephole.
She saw Keith Griffith standing outside, rubbing his hands together, a forced, stiff smile plastered on his face.
His eyes were darting about. It was obvious he was up to no good.
’What’s this guy doing here? Looking for trouble again?’ Seraphina wondered.
’Might as well. I’m not doing anything else. Let’s see what he’s selling.’
Seraphina opened the door, her expression unreadable, her tone flat. "Manager Griffith? Do you need something?"
Keith Griffith’s gaze darted past Seraphina and into the apartment, where he saw the half-empty room and Sean Chandler in the middle of packing.
A "perfectly-timed" look of surprise spread across his face.
"Miss Sullivan, you two are... packing? Are you planning to head to the safe zone?"
"What else?" Seraphina replied. "Or is Manager Griffith planning to stay at his post and guard this complex? Your dedication is truly moving."
"Everyone else is afraid of freezing or starving to death if they stay, but only Manager Griffith is still thinking about his job."
Instead of getting angry at Seraphina’s sarcasm, Keith Griffith just gave an awkward laugh.
"Haha, Miss Sullivan, you’re a real kidder. I actually came to apologize for that whole incident with the neighbors. It was a complete misunderstanding. I had no idea everyone would get so emotional..."
Seraphina just quietly watched him put on his show.
As a Player, even if her primary Ability wasn’t perception-based, her repeatedly enhanced physique and spiritual power allowed her to keenly detect several extremely faint, deliberately suppressed breaths coming from around the corner of the hallway.
’So it’s true what they say... never trust a fox in the henhouse!’
Recalling Keith Griffith’s previous attempt to collude with Gene Morton and rob them of their supplies, Seraphina instantly understood their plan.
’Are they trying to lure me out for a kidnapping? Or just attack me outright?’
However, far from feeling nervous now that she understood their intentions, Seraphina’s eyes lit up.
’Wait... isn’t this the perfect opportunity?’
A golden opportunity to both solve her current problem and create a plausible reason to "take out" the RV from her Space.
At this thought, Seraphina inwardly scoffed, but she played along, her expression changing to match his story.
"Oh, come on, Manager Griffith, don’t be like that! I get it. You were just trying to calm everyone down. Your intentions were good, you were doing what was best for everyone."
Her tone was sincere, even tinged with a hint of feigned "regret."
"I was just too emotional at the time and spoke a little harshly. Please don’t take it to heart. I mean, in this day and age, who wouldn’t get a little fired up when they’re being guilt-tripped like that? You know what I mean, right?"
