Infinite Disasters: I Hoarded My Way to Godhood
Chapter 131: Attack, Hunter Lowe
Chapter 131: Chapter 131: Attack, Hunter Lowe
The emergence of the Child of Weather.
The internet instantly went into a frenzy.
Countless people excitedly appealed, pleaded, and even demanded that the government have the Child of Weather tour the country. They wanted her to dispel the torrential rain in every region and let sunlight once again grace the land.
She was practically deified as a savior overnight.
However, as Seraphina Sullivan watched the girl on the screen, who was surrounded by a crowd and looked rather young and fragile, her brow furrowed slightly.
’Placing all hope and pressure on one person... I really don’t know if this is a good thing or a bad thing.’
Seraphina Sullivan instinctively felt that this near-deification hid unpredictable risks.
With greater Ability came greater responsibility, but the covetousness, jealousy, and even the desire for Control that would inevitably follow would trail her like a shadow.
Just as Seraphina Sullivan was staring at her phone screen, lost in thought—
BOOM!!!
A terrifying, deafening explosion suddenly ripped through the oppressive silence of the sky!
The massive sound seemed to erupt nearby, making the building she was in tremble slightly.
"What’s going on?!"
Seraphina Sullivan shot up from her chair. She instantly pocketed her phone, darted to the window, and peered outside with caution.
Sean Chandler appeared at her side almost instantly, his sharp gaze scanning in the direction of the sound.
In a distant area near the city’s edge, a thick column of black smoke mingled with rain and shot toward the sky. The flicker of firelight was faintly visible within it.
This was definitely not natural thunder, but a violent explosion!
"What happened? Where did that explosion come from?"
Seraphina Sullivan’s heart skipped a beat, and she immediately looked at her phone.
The moment the explosion rang out, the long-dormant neighborhood and local news chats on her phone were instantly flooded with a deluge of messages.
Countless panicked inquiries, fragmented information, and blurry video clips poured in.
Seraphina Sullivan quickly scanned the flood of messages, piecing together a rough outline of what had happened:
[Holy shit! Something big is happening! A bunch of Players just showed up outside the official Shelter in Vorlag City. They’re attacking the entrance like lunatics, killing soldiers who were keeping order and civilians who were trying to get in!]
[For real? That’s terrifying! I just heard a huge bang!]
[It’s 100% true, there’s a video. They’re the ones who caused the explosion! I don’t know what Ability or bomb they used!]
[Oh my god! Didn’t the authorities try to stop them?]
[There was no time to react! This was obviously a premeditated attack! Those guys are really strong, and they’re being ruthless!]
[This is too scary! I was planning to go to the Shelter tomorrow, but now I think it’s safer to just stay home...]
[These Players with Power are completely lawless. I think the government should strictly regulate all Players. It would be best to register and monitor all of them, or even lock them up! They’re too dangerous!]
[What the person above said is too extreme. There are a lot of good Players, too. Weren’t there Players helping with rescue efforts before? A one-size-fits-all approach will only cause more resistance and chaos!]
Seraphina Sullivan quickly scanned through these messages filled with fear, anger, and debate, and her expression darkened.
"Players attacking the official Shelter... It seems our city is starting to descend into chaos too."
Seraphina Sullivan said in a low voice to Sean Chandler, a knot of tension tightening in her chest once again.
This meant that order was rapidly collapsing, and those with Power but malicious intent were beginning to act without restraint.
...
Meanwhile, on the other side of the city, atop a derelict high-rise.
Hunter Lowe stood amidst the raging storm, letting the cold rain wash over the hideous scar that ran from the top of his bald head, down his left cheek, and to his chin.
He gazed at the billowing black smoke and faint firelight rising from the direction of the Shelter in the distance, a cruel and satisfied smile spreading across his lips.
’Tsk, tsk, tsk... They reacted pretty fast. Already discovered and labeled as a ’Player attack’?’
He sneered, his voice as hoarse as sandpaper. "So, that means that bastard Justin Brooks didn’t die after all? Hmph. My precious Insect King wounded him that badly, and he’s still kicking. Looks like he really does have some capable people with him."
He cracked his neck, and a bloodthirsty light glinted in his eyes.
"Today’s explosion is just the beginning of my revenge—just a little hello to everyone," he said, as if muttering to himself, yet also making a declaration. "Justin Brooks... you’re next. I remember your place is... over by Kherri Street, isn’t it?"
"I didn’t get to finish you off in the instance. Count yourself lucky. But now that we’re in the real world... I’ll pay you a personal visit and send you on your way!"
Rainwater slid down his hideous face, his gaze like that of the most dangerous viper, firmly locked on its next target.
Lying at home, Justin Brooks heard the sudden, violent explosion clearly. It even caused the floor beneath him to vibrate slightly.
He immediately asked his mother to check the news on her phone. When he learned that Players had attacked the city’s official Shelter, his first thought was—Hunter Lowe!
"It’s him! He’s already started his revenge!"
Justin Brooks’s heart sank, and his face grew even paler, not from his injuries, but from deep worry and anger.
He had witnessed Hunter Lowe’s cruelty and arrogance firsthand. Once a man like that gained Power, he would absolutely cause a bloodbath.
He began to worry intensely about his own district, and even his family’s safety.
On her end, Seraphina Sullivan was also worried by the explosion and the messages in her chat groups. But with limited information, she was unsure of the specific targets or future developments, so she decided to adopt the safest strategy: hunker down at home and increase her vigilance.
She took out the newly acquired [Medical Treasure Box]. The white case looked very plain.
She discovered that the Medical Treasure Box itself was empty. She would have to store medicine inside it to benefit from its enhanced Effect.
So, she carefully placed some of the basic medical supplies she had collected—gauze bandages, antibiotics, styptic powder, and painkillers, as well as a few precious stalks of [Healing Grass]—inside. She closed the lid, waiting for the items to undergo a beneficial change under the box’s influence.
Having done that, Seraphina Sullivan entered the [Scavenger’s Farm] Space once more to calm her nerves and begin her "grand farming project."
She carefully planted the [Fiery Sunflower Seeds] in a designated area, then transplanted some ordinary vegetable seedlings, temporarily putting aside the chaos outside.
The first day back in reality passed quietly amidst the sudden explosion, a vague sense of worry, and daily chores.
However, neither the worried Justin Brooks nor the momentarily peaceful Seraphina Sullivan noticed that a crisis targeting their neighborhood was quietly brewing in the darkness.
...
On the other side, Keith Griffith, who had also been startled by the explosion, had a flash of indescribable excitement in his eyes after the initial shock wore off.
He immediately slipped back into his room and carefully dialed a number.
"Hello? Morton? It’s me, Keith Griffith."
He lowered his voice, his tone laced with a hint of urgency and secret anticipation. "You heard about what happened at the Shelter today, right? Things are getting chaotic... I feel like... our chance might be coming again?"
From the other end of the line came a voice that was equally low but carried a shrewd undertone...
