Infiltrating The Heroes – How I Got Encountered By The Hero Party Multiple Times Despite Being Their Enemy
Chapter 63: Planing The Second Dungeon
POV Cornelius
We were sitting in a theory lesson when we got the news that Liss had arrived. I was pleasantly surprised that she had already arrived. It had rained heavily the last few days, so the roads were difficult to pass. Her motivation was commendable. In order not to keep her waiting too long, we interrupted the theory lesson and set off immediately. There were only three of us because Eli was currently staying in the cathedral.
We entered the room and saw Liss sitting on one of the sofas. She was noticeably nervous, which was no surprise since she was waiting for us. Next to me, Javier made his signature hand gesture as if he were pushing up a pair of glasses. He always made this gesture when he used Appraisal on someone. I didn't think we would learn anything new, so I didn't wait and sat on another sofa across from Liss. She immediately straightened her back and looked in our direction. She stood up, bowed and then sat down again.
“You got here quicker than I expected. That is very appreciated.” <Cornelius>
“I came as fast as the streets would allow. Thanks for the compliment.” <Eliza>
“You’ve come to the right place. We're thinking about which dungeon we'll go to next." <Cornelius>
“Which ones are there to choose from?” <Eliza>
“Either go back to Tyros or go to the dungeon northeast of Lightburgh.” <Cornelius>
“What’s the motto of the dungeon?” <Eliza>
"Living Dead. Do you have a problem with that?” <Cornelius>
"Living Dead? So skeletons and stuff like that?” <Eliza>
"Exactly. The advantage is that we are almost alone there because access is limited by the church. The disadvantage is that we have to camp in front of it because there is no town nearby.” <Cornelius>
“I have no problem with camping. I can provide good support there. I just don't know if I can contribute much in the fight against the undead. I don't know how my sense danger will react and my weapons may not be very effective. I wouldn't even know how to hit a bone skeleton." <Eliza>
“You fight with spear and dagger, right?” <Cornelius>
"Yes. I learned these weapons because I am too weak to use other weapons effectively." <Eliza>
“Hmm, use magic then.” <Javier>
“I doubt that my air bolt is enough for this. I wanted to use my time over the winter to improve my wind magic. Unfortunately I didn't have enough money to learn new spells. I'm also afraid that my magical abilities such as magic control and magic regeneration are too weak to use properly." <Eliza>
“Hmm, we can work on that. What do you think, Cornelius? We can't leave yet anyway because it's still too cold at night. Eleonore also complains about the humidity all day long. We can use the time to properly train Liss in magic so that she can be used as a sorcerer.” <Javier>
"The idea is good. What do you think, Ansgar?” <Cornelius>
“If it means we can slaughter the undead eventually, then yes. I really want to test my ax against this type of opponent.” <Ansgar>
“That decides it. Liss, we'll be training you in magic for the next few weeks. As soon as the weather has improved enough that nothing freezes at night, we ride to the dark dungeon. I’m excited to see how we do there.” <Cornelius>
“May I make a selfish wish?” <Eliza>
“Yes, what’s up?” <Cornelius>
“I don’t just want to learn theory in the next few weeks. The time I was cooped up in the city over the winter made me restless. I like to move much and feel a bit rusty. For the past few years, I have spent most mornings doing physical activity. Running, strength training, exhibition fighting when I had the chance. I would like to continue working on it.” Eliza
“Hahahaha, I like you. I can understand that so well. How does it look, Cornelius? I take care of Liss's physical and combat training in the mornings and Javier is responsible for the magic in the afternoons. “Ansgar
“That sounds like a good plan. I will join you in the morning. Javier, you are responsible for making sure that Liss becomes a useful sorceress.” Cornelius
“Hmm, agreed. Then I still have enough time to take care of my studies. The new magic I have learned is fascinating and I want to delve into it more.” Javier
“Liss, you weren’t at advanced level with your main weapon, were you?” Cornelius
“No, I’m not, but you know that. Why?” Eliza
“Then you can’t use the next level of equipment yet. However, before we set off, we will upgrade your equipment as much as your level allows. So all the important things have been discussed. Do you have your equipment with you? We will accommodate you here in the palace.” Cornelius
"I have everything with me. I will be happy to stay here in the palace if that suits your wishes.” Eliza
POV Eliza
After everything was discussed, a soldier came and led me to a side area of the palace. I was assigned a room there. This room had a small bathroom. For me it was pure luxury. I hadn't had the opportunity to bathe in years and was really looking forward to it. It was then explained to me that I would be picked up every morning and that I was forbidden to walk around the palace unaccompanied. The only places I was allowed to visit were the nearby courtyard and a small library a few rooms away. A guard was permanently positioned next to my room to whom I could communicate my wishes if I had any. I either ate my meal with the heroes or had it served to my room.
That evening I sat on my bed and summarized the past few hours. That went better than expected. I received more instruction in magic and that was exactly what I was lacking at the moment. I was very happy with the development. Unfortunately there was an exception. Before that, I was called to the heroes for dinner. This time the dumbass Eleonore was also there, glaring at me suspiciously the whole time. I had to keep an eye on her because she promised trouble.
