Chapter 46: Our First Boss – Youngs Wolves

POV Eliza

We went to the dungeon early the next morning, highly motivated, and were one of the first. But the adventurers who came before us were of a higher rank than us. So we let them in first. This is normal everyday life and the rest of us waited our turn. Everything except the slimes, which were simply ignored by everyone, were fought on the way to the lower floors. We followed another group up to floor 5. Here you could see a small difference from the previous floors. Significantly more trees and other plants could be seen. In addition, with each floor there was an increasing number of insects or other small animals, but they did not pose any danger and did not give any EXP. They were just annoying.

I took the lead again among the young wolves. I was glad I had multiple senses to rely on. The Sense Presence skill wasn't much help as it showed every larger plant. I now had enough control over the skill that I could select creatures. This reduced the number of perceived auras. Unfortunately there was still too much left. I also had the Sense Danger and Sense Mana skill. Sense Mana was useless unless the monster had mana. At least sense danger warned me of danger shortly before an attack. This meant we could all react in good time if one of the plants turned out to be a monster. On this floor, the monsters were all plant types. The plant monsters attacked in two different ways. The first attack was a lashing with a vine. It was strong enough to make you sway and if you weren't careful you would trip over other plants on the ground.

The second attack was the more serious. Instead of a whip attack, the plant tried to wrap itself around you like a snake. Then you were trapped and became the victim of further attacks more easily. In addition, the vine squeezed the air out of your lungs and tried to suffocate you. Fortunately, the slings were soft and therefore very sensitive to bladed weapons. Ken could do less, but Ronnen was very effective against the plants. My spear only caused damage if I stabbed directly at the plant monster's central body. However, I was able to use my dagger to cut the vines, although I had to get close to do so. Lynn was able to deal a lot of damage with her fire magic. The downside was the smoke and smell that formed.

The collaboration in our group worked better and better. We now had a good understanding of what each other could and did. Ronnen in particular stood out as it was our central resting point. His calm manner supported this. That's why we were sure to fill up on the first boss. We were well prepared and set off for the dungeon again one other morning. In front of the entrance we met the heroes who were just entering the dungeon. That's why we were stopped by the soldiers.

“Stop. The noble heroes are in the dungeon and have priority. You wait here.” <Soldier>

We had no choice but to wait. I could hear Lynn muttering to herself.

“They really bother me. May they perish.” <Lynn>

I was amazed at how annoyed Lynn was with the heroes. They must have given her a really bad impression. The attack from back then still had an effect. Otherwise she was calmer and more controlled.

“You’re different than usual, Lynn. Has something else happened?” <Eliza>

“He tried to invite me into his harem again. Can’t he just leave me alone?” Lynn

After what felt like an eternity we were allowed to enter the dungeon. The only advantage was that we had a clear path. The heroes were already beyond floor 5, so we got to the boss room without any problems. We prepared ourselves before entering the room. Ken cast the wind spell on himself to increase his agility a little. I cast the same spell on myself and also on the other two. Then we entered the boss room. Let's wait and see which of the monsters became our boss.

The cave was the largest room we had found in the dungeon so far and was separated from the rest of the floor by a door. It was completely lit and, at first glance, empty. Then the door closed behind us. In the back area the ground began to glow and the air vibrated. Then a light appeared and when the light disappeared, many monsters could be seen. We recognized several slimes, beetles, goblins and creepers, but only one large spider. So the boss was a spider. Not nice, because of the poison it was pretty much the most dangerous boss. I thought for a moment and then made a decision.

“You take over the minions. I'll take over the boss. I have developed a certain resistance to poison and am the most agile. I'll give myself the best chance, but keep the rest away from me. I also have a poison healing potion with me.” Eliza

The others, especially Lynn, didn't seem very happy with my words. On the other hand, they knew that their chances were much worse.

“We support you from afar, Eliza. Just don’t do anything to put you in danger.” Lynn

I nodded and mentally prepared myself. Then the monsters stormed towards us. The beetles and the goblins were the first. In the distance the vines came from the creepers and the slimes were slow as usual. Lynn started with a fireball and directed it into the middle of the monsters. You could feel the force of the impact. It caused a lot of damage. Ken fired his bow and Ronnen covered the other two.

Meanwhile I was looking for the boss. The spider hadn't stormed off with the others. I couldn't see it at first, but then I sensed danger from above. I looked up at the ceiling and just saw the spider running across the ceiling and then dropping onto me. I jumped to the side and threw a knife, which pierced the side. The spider was too close for magic and so all I had left was the spear. The boss was five times larger than the spiders we had previously fought. The legs were correspondingly longer, meaning the spider was almost as tall as I was. A liquid dripped from her fangs, probably her poison. I had to be very careful not to get poisoned. The poison was stronger than that of their smaller counterparts.

The fight against the spider dragged on. I paid particular attention to my defense so that I hardly had any chance to attack. She jumped at me and I dodged. In return I stabbed her, but her legs were in the way and difficult to hit herself. Then suddenly there was a dead beetle in the way and I stumbled. The spider immediately took advantage of the opportunity and jumped on me. Instinctively, I yanked the spear up and the spider impaled itself. But that didn't kill her. Instead she managed to bite my left arm. The pain caused by the bite was the worst I had ever felt. Only the fall into the ravine was worse. I noticed how my arm was getting hotter and hotter from the bite wound. That had to be the poison. I let go of the now useless spear and took my dagger from its sheath. I tried to keep a cool head, which I barely manage to do despite the Clear Mind and Pain Resistance skills. But it was enough to carry out a targeted attack on the head. I was lucky and the dagger penetrated deep into one of the eyes.

This caused the spider to jump back, keeping the dagger in the wound. The spear fell to the ground, but it was useless to me. My arm felt like it was burning and was slowly becoming numb. Deprived of any melee weapon, I had to resort to magic. I cast a wind arrow as quickly as I could. It hit the target and the spider swayed. But she quickly caught herself and started to jump again. This didn't look good, without a weapon and weakened by the poison, I had no choice but to retreat. Assuming the spider allowed it. The spider jumped again, but before it got to me a fire arrow hit it from the side. The impact changed the trajectory of the jump slightly and I was able to dodge so that the spider didn't hit me. I landed next to my spear and I felt I only had one chance. I gritted my teeth and grabbed the spear with both hands. Then, with all the strength I had left, I rammed the spear into the spider's side. I groaned from exhaustion. That still didn't seem to have defeated the spider, because it turned in my direction again. But before she could make the next attack, a second fire arrow hit her. She then collapsed lifelessly to the ground. Lynn had saved me. I had to thank her afterwards.

I held my arm and took a deep breath. Then I looked around to get an overview. I saw Lynn to the side, giving me the thumbs up with a big smile. Meanwhile, Ken was also in close combat and speared a beetle. Ronnen hacked at a creeper with his sword. Apart from the two monsters, I couldn't see or feel any of them. We were almost there. I collapsed to my knees in relief. Time to do some self-analysis. I had medium poisoned status, which was to be expected. I had also lost about half of my LP. I played it safe and took the poison healing potion from my luggage. I was just about to drink when Lynn came up to me.

“Eliza, are you okay? “How are you?” <Lynn>

“I would like to say good, but it could be worse. I was poisoned and am currently taking my poison healing potion. Then I also hope that the fire in my arm disappears.” <Eliza>

I drank the potion and felt the fire in my arm disappear. A quick check showed me that I had lost the poisoned status. I also started to heal again thanks to regeneration. Lynn immediately cast the water healing spell on me and I did the same. Afterwards, Lynn was calmer.

“The poison is gone. It didn't do as much damage as it looks. I drank the healing potion very quickly. It probably had more of a numbing and weakening effect. Don't worry, I haven't lost very many LPs. How did it go for you?” <Eliza>

"Good. My fireball made short work of the slimes and the other monsters also took a beating. After that, it was only a matter of time before we could defeat them. Thanks to you, we took the boss out of the fight. I came to your aid as soon as I saw us safely.” <Lynn>

“Thank you, Lynn, you saved me. In the end I had no weapon left and another spell would have taken too long. I own you one wish.” <Eliza>

"I'm glad to hear that. I'll think of something nice." <Lynn>
