POV Eliza

Two days later we had another onset of winter. It started to snow slowly and then more and more heavily until Tyros was completely covered in snow. The streets in the city had to be cleared several times a day and everyone who had nothing else to do helped out. This also applied to me and so I spent several weeks shoveling snow.

Visiting the dungeon was impossible during this time, as the snow outside the city was up to a meter high. So I had no choice but to enjoy the peace and quiet in Tyros. Instead, I now had plenty of time to pursue other tasks. I completed several quests for the guild during this time. I also devoted myself to my wood carvings. By the end of the winter, my carved figures looked at least remotely like what they were supposed to be. My cooking skills also reached a level that produced usable results. I also practiced ritual magic, which allowed me to establish a connection with Luna. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to establish the connection a second time and was therefore unable to speak to her again. There seemed to be circumstances that I was unaware of that made it easier or more difficult to establish a connection.

After the snow melted, I went back to the dungeon. I spent a few days there and got myself into a bit of a fighting frenzy again. I was unable to fight for almost three weeks because of the snow. I spent a day in the floor of the wolves, the orcs and the bears. I barely managed to collect the magic stones for the first two days. It wasn't until the third day that I had calmed down enough to take the magic stones with me.

After the three days I had to go back, as I had never planned to stay in the dungeon for so long and therefore only had a small amount of food with me. Driven by hunger, I went back to Tyros. In the meantime, numerous adventurers were out again to seek their fortune in the dungeon.

The next day, I went to the guild to put Lirella's new party idea into practice. There were always several requests on the party request board and I knew the way to the third boss by heart. I should be able to find a new party with that.

When I entered the guild, the adventurers present were in turmoil. They seemed to be discussing something.

“Have you heard of the devil?”

“You mean the devil with the sharp fangs?”

“You've heard of it too? I wonder who that is.”

“I wonder if it's the same as last year?”

“I've seen him. On the floor with the forest wolves. He swept through the wolves like a wild storm and left nothing but dead wolves in his wake. That was madness.”

“He's said to have left the prey behind.”

“Yes, he did. He didn't care about the magic stones or the wolves' pelts. As soon as he killed them, he disappeared. We made good money selling the stuff. We should thank him for that.”

“That explains why we stumbled across a pile of dead orcs two days ago. They still had everything with them too.”

From the talk of the others, I deduced that there was one person causing a commotion in the dungeon. I asked Sana if she knew anything.

“Hello Sana.” <Eliza>

“Eliza, hello, good to see you. How are you?” <Sana>

“I'm doing well. Spent the winter in Tyros. Now I'm starting to need new money. That's why I was in the dungeon yesterday. Besides, I'm bored.” <Eliza>

“That's understandable. Most adventurers get restless when they have nothing to do for too long. Are you still alone?” <Sana>

“Yes, but I'm thinking about joining another group, at least temporarily. Since I know the first floors up to the third boss by heart by now, I wanted to offer myself as a guide for the three bosses. That way I can kill two birds with one stone, because my old group never beat the third boss.” <Eliza>

“That sounds very sensible, Eliza. You'll be much safer in a group than on your own. The first requests should already be on the board.” <Sana>

“You, Sana, tell me something. The others are talking about some devil. What's that all about?” <Eliza>

“Haven't you been here the last few days? Apparently there's been an adventurer for the past few days who is supposed to fight his way through hordes of monsters at incredible speed. He is supposed to be so skillful that he doesn't get hit. He is armed with two daggers. Hence his nickname, the devil with the sharp fangs. He also leaves his prey lying around and disappears immediately after the fight, only to reappear in another corner of the floor. He is also said to be found on a different floor every day.” <Sana>

“That's interesting. Do you know anything else about him?” <Eliza>

“No, nothing at all. At the end of last year, there were rumors about a mysterious person who was defeating monsters en masse in the dungeon and leaving all the corpses untouched. At the time, these sightings occurred over a period of just under three weeks, until it stopped just as suddenly as it started. Nobody knows anything for sure, but in the last three days there have been the first new sightings of the person. From descriptions we only know that the person is around 180cm tall and slim. He wears a cloak, the kind you can buy on every corner, and wields two daggers. He's the talk of your colleagues.” <Sana>

A single person with two daggers? Wildly fighting all the monsters without collecting the loot? Even at the end of last year? About 180 cm tall? Are they talking about me? Oops.

“Have you noticed anything, Eliza? You seem so thoughtful.” <Sana>

“Hmm? I'm not sure. I'll look out for it when I go back to the dungeon. Is it important to track the person down? Is he dangerous?” <Eliza>

“No, not that we know of. But we're curious, of course.”<Sana>

“When I see the person, I'll let you know. Have a nice day, Sana. I'm going to take a look at the board.” <Eliza>

I said goodbye to Sana and took a look at the wanted board. I also found a request for a skilled scout. Luckily, they were looking for someone for the third boss. Such requests were less common. Much more common were requests for the 2nd and 4th bosses, as you could only move onto the next floors if you had beaten those bosses. I took the request from the board and was just about to turn to the counter when I was approached.

“Are you interested in our request?” <Man>
