Chapter 111: Chapter 111: Feng Yuan’s Bewilderment

Before Derrick opened the small wooden box, Keira stepped forward.

She flicked her wrist, sending a wave of translucent energy rippling across the walls, floor, and ceiling.

An invisible spatial seal snapped into place, locking the entire room down.

No trace of aura or energy would be able to leak outside into the estate.

Derrick popped the latch and opened the lid.

A soft, brilliant glow flared inside the room, accompanied by a gentle hum in the air.

It was a much smaller energy phenomenon than the massive divine spike from earlier, but still enough to shake the room.

The light hit Keira’s spatial barrier and bounced right back, completely contained within the four walls.

General Chen’s eyes widened as the soothing medicinal scent filled his lungs.

"It’s a miracle."

Without hesitation, he reached out, took the Grade 2 pill, and swallowed it whole.

For a moment, everything went still.

Then, a wave of gentle warmth spread outward from his chest.

The sickly gray color on his face slowly faded away, replaced by a natural, healthy glow.

His ragged breathing settled into a smooth, steady rhythm.

General Chen gasped lightly, staring down at his hands.

The chaotic poison locked deep in his energy channels was suddenly suppressed, held in check by a firm, soothing barrier.

"This is..." General Chen murmured, genuine awe in his voice. "The medicinal force is so smooth."

"It will mask your condition for forty-eight hours," Derrick said. "You’ll look and feel like you’re recovering completely on your own."

"Now, put on the show."

Keira waved her hand, dissolving the spatial seal once the pill was fully consumed.

She and Derrick stepped back into the quiet corners of the room, blending into the shadows like simple bodyguards.

General Chen threw off his heavy blankets and sat up straight.

He reached over and pressed the silver chime on his headboard.

A clear tone echoed through the outer hallway.

A few seconds later, the double doors slid open, and the young attendant stepped inside.

"Master Chen! Did you need—"

She froze in her tracks, her mouth falling open.

The dying old man was sitting bolt upright, his face full of life.

"Gather my sons," General Chen commanded, his voice deep and clear.

"And bring Alchemist Feng Yuan here right away."

The attendant stood stunned for a second before bowing frantically.

"Y-yes, General! Right away!"

She turned on her heel and sprinted down the corridor to fetch them.

Within minutes, footsteps echoed outside in the corridor.

The General’s sons pushed open the doors and hurried into the room.

They stopped dead in their tracks, staring at their father in utter shock.

He didn’t look like a man on the verge of death anymore.

His posture was straight, his breathing was steady, and a healthy color had returned to his face.

General Chen looked over the group, his sharp gaze sweeping across his family.

He quickly noticed someone missing.

"Where is Chen Kai?" General Chen asked, his voice firm.

Chen Weian’s face twitched.

He darted a quick, nervous glance toward Derrick, who was standing quietly near the wall.

"He... wasn’t feeling well, Father," Weian made up an excuse. "He retired to his room to rest early tonight."

General Chen didn’t say a word.

He simply shook his head with a look of deep disappointment.

That subtle look made Weian’s face darken instantly.

His hand clenched into a tight fist at his side.

A second later, he smoothed over his reaction, hiding his frustration behind his usual pleasing smile.

Chen Feng stepped forward, looking entirely bewildered by his father’s sudden energy.

"Father, what is this about?" Chen Feng asked. "Why did you gather us here so suddenly?"

Just as General Chen opened his mouth to answer, the heavy double doors slid open once more.

Alchemist Feng Yuan stepped into the room, holding his usual box of medicinal tools.

General Chen looked up, his eyes locking straight onto him.

"It’s a good thing you are here, Master Feng Yuan," General Chen said smoothly. "Because I have made a decision."

Feng Yuan’s eyes narrowed instantly as his gaze landed on the old man.

He stared at the rosy, healthy complexion on General Chen’s face, his expression freezing in place.

General Chen didn’t waste any time.

"I have decided to stop the experimental treatment," he announced calmly.

Every single head in the room snapped straight toward Keira.

The sons and Feng Yuan stared at her with heavy suspicion.

She was the one who had cleared the attendants out for a private chat just moments ago.

Now, right after their secret talk, the old man was suddenly changing his mind about his life-saving medicine.

To them, it was obvious she had something to do with it.

Keira snarled with annoyance, glaring right back at the room.

"What are you looking at?" she snapped coldly.

"Do you think I want him to die?"

"He woke up feeling a little better, and now the old man is just being stubborn."

Feeling her sharp glare, their eyes immediately shifted over to Derrick next.

Derrick froze in place, looking like a deer caught straight in the headlights.

He held up his hands in a defensive gesture, his face a picture of pure innocence.

"What?" Derrick asked, blinking.

"You think I have any say in this place?"

"I am but an outsider."

Chen Weian, Chen Feng, and Alchemist Feng Yuan all felt their faces twitch at his shameless performance.

Before anyone could utter a single word to question them further, General Chen cut in.

"Enough," the old general said, his voice ringing with authority.

"This was entirely my decision."

He looked straight at Feng Yuan, keeping his expression relaxed.

"I am feeling a bit better today," General Chen explained. "And I simply do not wish to gamble on my life with any more experimental drugs."

He kept his composure perfectly, revealing absolutely nothing about the pill resting inside his system.

Keira walked up to the side of the bed.

She picked up a sleek medical tablet lying on the bedside table.

With a quick tap of her fingers, she projected a glowing image into the middle of the room.

The projection showed General Chen’s body, focusing straight on the swirling mass of energy trapped inside his golden core.

Compared to his last scan, the chaotic aura cluttering his channels was visibly smaller.

It had been reduced by ten percent.

Keira looked up at the floating image, keeping her tone light and casual.

"Look at that," Keira murmured. "The energy mass in his core actually went down."

"Maybe your previous medicine is finally kicking in after all, Master Feng Yuan."

Feng Yuan’s head snapped toward the projection.

His face turned pale as his eyes locked onto the scan.

His calm facade cracked completely, and he lost his composure.

"That’s impossible!" Feng Yuan suddenly exclaimed.
