Chapter 185: 185 | Ripples After the Arena

By the time Lin Tian reached Cloud-Sea Pavilion, the arena behind him was still loud with disbelief.

The protective arrays sealed behind him, cutting off the noise of the outside world. The heavy Profound Void-Yang Blade rested across his back, its dense spiritual pressure making the air inside the gate feel heavier for a brief moment before the containment runes settled.

Madam Shen was already waiting in the front hall.

The moment she saw him, the cold Deputy Hall Master expression disappeared. She stepped forward without a word. Her hands moved with practiced care as she took the heavy sword from his back and set it on the weapon stand near the wall. Then she helped him remove his outer robe. Her fingers brushed his shoulders lightly, lingering for a brief moment longer than necessary.

"Welcome back, Master," she said softly.

Lin Tian gave a small nod and walked to the main chair. He sat down without speaking.

Madam Shen poured tea with steady hands. Only after placing the cup in front of him did she speak again.

"Wei Chang’s faction has been handled."

Lin Tian looked at her.

"Explain."

"The referee’s report reached the Resource Hall before you left the arena," Madam Shen said. "Instructor Qing filed the official record within ten breaths of the match ending. He used a Forbidden Blood Art in an official arena challenge. That alone violates Inner Sect regulations."

She pulled a thin jade slip from her sleeve and placed it on the table beside his cup.

"I used the Resource Hall’s authority to freeze all remaining allocations tied to his name and his direct supporters. Two junior disciples who stood behind him at the platform. One Deacon from the Martial Hall who had been feeding him intelligence about your training schedule."

She paused, then continued in a calm voice.

"Their spirit stones, Monthly Allowance, and herb supplies are locked pending full investigation. Even if someone tries to help them, the records are already sealed under official review. Thirty-day minimum before any appeal can be processed."

A faint smile touched her lips.

"They will not recover those resources easily."

Lin Tian studied her for a moment. His gaze carried quiet approval.

"Clean work No loose ends."

Madam Shen’s cheeks colored slightly at the simple praise, She lowered her gaze.

"I only used the rules, Master Nothing more."

She remained standing beside him, waiting in case he had further instructions.

"Seven days until the Regional Tournament," Lin Tian said, picking up the tea. "Wei Chang was the fifth slot. His absence changes the bracket."

"I have already accounted for it," Madam Shen replied. "The Discipline Hall will assign a replacement within two days. Your slot remains unaffected. Elder Liu’s recommendation still stands as the binding authority."

Lin Tian took a slow sip. Good. One problem solved before it became one.

Before he could say anything else, the protective array at the gate gave a soft pulse.

A Core Formation aura appeared outside Stable and Refined Clearly belonging to an elder of the sect.

Madam Shen’s expression changed at once. The devoted softness vanished. In its place returned the cold, professional mask of the Resource Hall’s Deputy Hall Master. She straightened her robes, adjusted her sleeves, and moved to the side of the hall without needing to be told.

The visitor was Elder Bai.

She entered with calm steps. Her gaze swept the pavilion once before settling on Lin Tian. There was no arrogance in her posture. Only open curiosity.

"Lin Tian," she said. "I watched your match."

Her eyes moved toward the weapon stand where the Profound Void-Yang Blade rested.

"That blade. May I examine it?"

Lin Tian looked at her for a moment. His mind turned the situation over once. An Array Peak elder arriving unannounced at a junior disciple’s pavilion required a reason. She had followed the blade’s array signature from the arena. That meant her interest was technical, not political. She came alone. She wanted answers, not an audience.

He gave a slight nod.

Elder Bai stepped closer. Her hands stayed at her sides. Her divine sense carefully brushed over the surface, tracing the hidden patterns within the metal.

Her eyes narrowed.

The arrays inside were tighter and more stable than she had expected. No sign of the usual strain that came from forcing too many runes into a single weapon. The spiritual flow moved smoothly, without resistance or conflict. Layers of reinforcement nested inside one another, each one feeding the next rather than competing for space.

"These formations," she murmured, her fingers hovering a hair’s width above the blade’s surface. "They follow the metal’s natural grain instead of fighting it. The energy moves along existing veins rather than carved channels."

She turned her head slightly, looking at Lin Tian over her shoulder.

"Who taught you this method?"

Lin Tian spoke quietly from his seat.

"Most people try to drive spiritual energy into the metal by force. It is simpler to leave clear paths and let the energy settle on its own."

He stopped there. One principle, Enough to show depth. Not enough to give away the full method. If she wanted more, she would need to return And every return brought her one step closer.

Elder Bai turned her eyes toward him.

The words were simple. Yet they matched something her own calculations had been pointing toward for years. Her expression stayed controlled, but her fingers tightened once around her sleeve. The constant sharp pain that lived inside her soul eased by a fraction while she stood near the blade. The noisy, fragile feeling that always accompanied complex arrays grew quieter.

She straightened her posture.

"You have an unusual understanding of formations for someone your age," she said. Her voice remained calm and dignified. "If you are willing, you may visit the Array Peak when you have time. I would not mind continuing this discussion."

It was an open invitation. Spoken with the dignity of a Core Formation elder, yet the meaning behind it was clear. She wanted to understand what she had just seen. And she wanted to understand it from him specifically.

Lin Tian gave a polite incline of his head.

"I will remember, Elder Bai."

She looked at him once more, as if memorizing his face. Then she turned and left the pavilion without another word. Her Core Formation aura faded into the distance, leaving the courtyard quiet again.

Silence returned to the hall.

Madam Shen waited until the gate array fully sealed before she relaxed. The strict mask dropped away. She walked back to Lin Tian’s side and stood close to him.

"She is interested in you," she said quietly. Her fingers rested on the back of his chair. Not touching him. Just close.

Lin Tian picked up his tea and took a slow sip.

"She is interested in the sword For now."

His lips curved slightly. The faintest trace of amusement.

Madam Shen’s gaze lingered on the weapon stand. The Profound Void-Yang Blade sat there, dark-gold surface gleaming faintly in the hall’s soft light. Aunt Lin’s work. Her hands had shaped it. Her meridians had tempered it.

"I will send word to Aunt Lin," Madam Shen said. "She will want to know an Array Peak elder examined her craftsmanship."

"Do that," Lin Tian replied. "But tell her nothing about the invitation. Let Elder Bai come to us again before we move."

Madam Shen inclined her head. "Understood."

She moved toward the communication tokens on the side table. Then paused.

"Seven days, Master. The tournament bracket will be finalized in two. Elder Liu’s pill refinement is on schedule. Lady Yun reports no unusual movement around the neighboring sects."

Lin Tian set down his tea.

"Then we wait , Let them walk into it."

Outside, the Inner Sect continued to process the arena match. But inside Cloud-Sea Pavilion, the atmosphere remained calm.

Elder Bai had taken the first step on her own.

Lin Tian had allowed it.
