Chapter 144: 144 | The Waiting Game

The mid-grade isolation arrays embedded within the stone floor of the Cloud-Sea Pavilion finally fell silent.

With a subtle wave of Lin Tian’s hand, the barriers surrounding the main hall were deactivated. The heavy spirit-wood doors slid open, allowing the crisp mountain wind of Crimson Nimbus Sect to sweep through the pavilion and disperse the lingering warmth of the previous days.

Morning sunlight spread across the beast-fur rug, revealing the peaceful aftermath of their closed cultivation.

The dual cultivation had benefited all three women. Their spiritual energy had settled, their foundations were stable, and their resonance had deepened.

Madam Shen adjusted her dark-crimson Resource Hall robes, her Early Stage Foundation Establishment cultivation steady. The Yin Qi within her Dantian circulated smoothly, showing no sign of the instability that had troubled her before.

Aunt Lin prepared for her return to the Artifact Pavilion, her Qi flowing cleanly through her meridians. Her foundation remained stable, and the energy gained during the recent cultivation had settled without disturbance.

Lady Yun stood near the balcony in her dark outer robe, her Dark Yin energy calm and controlled. The Dark Yin Backlash was gone, and her Middle Stage Foundation Establishment foundation remained firm.

Lin Tian stood nearby in his obsidian robes and activated the Abyssal Shadow Veil, concealing the pressure of his Peak Early Stage Foundation Establishment cultivation. To anyone outside, he would once again appear to be a talented young disciple whose true cultivation was difficult to judge.

He looked toward the three women.

"From today onward, return to your normal duties. There is no need for all of us to remain gathered here."

All three nodded.

"As for Alchemy Peak, we will enter a quiet phase. Elder Liu’s choices are narrowing, but she still has other avenues. That means we have even less reason to interfere directly."

His gaze settled on Madam Shen.

"Resource Queen."

Madam Shen stepped forward. "Yes, Master."

"Return to the Resource Hall and continue your normal duties. Approve Elder Liu’s requests according to procedure and keep the existing routing arrangement unchanged. The Eastern Valley route is already slower than the main channels, so leave it as it is."

Madam Shen understood immediately.

"No unusual restrictions or sudden changes. Everything will remain within normal procedure."

"Exactly. Keep the records clean. We don’t need to create another reason for suspicion."

"Understood, Master."

Lin Tian then turned toward Aunt Lin.

"Forge Queen."

Aunt Lin met his gaze. "Yes, Master."

"Return to the Artifact Pavilion and resume your normal work. Continue refining artifacts as you usually would, and don’t draw unnecessary attention to the changes in your cultivation."

Aunt Lin nodded thoughtfully.

"I understand. I’ll keep my work consistent and avoid giving anyone a reason to look closer."

"Good. For now, nothing needs to change there."

Finally, Lin Tian’s gaze shifted toward Lady Yun.

"Shadow Queen."

Lady Yun stepped forward quietly.

"I am the abyss, my Master," she whispered, her cold, alluring voice calm as she accepted the order.

Lin Tian’s expression remained composed.

"Return to the outer perimeter and resume your external intelligence gathering. Continue monitoring Elder Liu and the three disciples closest to her. Watch their movements, especially any new contact related to Yang-attribute herbs."

Lady Yun inclined her head.

"I understand."

"Do not interfere with the suppliers or their black-market purchases. Do not reveal any killing intent. You are the eyes of the Shadow Web. Observe and report."

"I shall watch and report without disturbing the situation, my Master."

Lady Yun gave a small nod. "Understood, Master."

She needed no further explanation. Her role was not to decide Elder Liu’s next move, but to notice it before anyone else did. A change in who Elder Liu contacted, where she searched, or how she handled the problem could reveal more than any direct interference ever would.

The instructions were simple, but the reason behind them was clear.

Elder Liu was an Early Stage Core Formation cultivator and a 4-Star Alchemist. Her current problem was not a collapsing foundation. It was the growing difficulty of controlling her Pill Toxicity and Phantom Burns while suitable Yang-attribute herbs remained limited and delayed.

That distinction mattered.

She was under pressure, but pressure did not mean she had become helpless. As long as she still had alternatives, any obvious interference from the Shadow Web could become the very clue they needed to reveal a connection.

Lin Tian had no intention of giving her that clue.

Aunt Lin’s recovery had also changed the equation.

Feng’s investigation had found Lin Tian’s records clean, yet it had also revealed the unusual connection between him and Aunt Lin. Elder Liu now knew that Lin Tian had helped reorganize Aunt Lin’s Qi circulation and had contributed to the resolution of her Severe Qi Stagnation.

That knowledge had planted a question in her mind.

Could Lin Tian understand the flow of spiritual energy in a way that an alchemist’s conventional methods did not? It was only a possibility in Elder Liu’s eyes, but Lin Tian understood that even a small question could become important when a cultivator had exhausted enough familiar answers.

He did not need to answer that question for her.

The less he appeared concerned with Elder Liu’s troubles, the more naturally her own attention could turn toward him. A direct approach would only make the connection between them too obvious, while continued normal behavior allowed her curiosity to develop without outside pressure.

Lin Tian leaned back in the spirit-wood chair.

"Elder Liu still has other options. She can continue searching outside the sect, rely on her remaining reserves, or seek another solution. We should leave those paths open."

Madam Shen looked thoughtful.

"And if she continues searching?"

"Then we continue watching."

Lin Tian’s gaze remained steady.

"A sudden change from us would be more noticeable than the pressure she is already facing. Ordinary delays, normal procedures, and clean records are enough. We do not need to add anything else."

The three women understood.

Their strength had increased, but the Shadow Web would not become careless because of it. None of them needed to manufacture results or create pressure beyond what was already occurring naturally.

The situation had reached a point where restraint was more useful than action.

Pressure without exposure remained the safest path.

Lin Tian turned toward the open doors.

"Go."

Madam Shen bowed and departed for the Resource Hall, returning to the ordinary flow of sect affairs. Her expression was calm, and there was nothing in her movements that suggested anything had changed within the pavilion.

Aunt Lin left for the Artifact Pavilion to resume her work as usual, giving no one a reason to connect her recent improvement to anything unusual. She carried the same quiet composure she had shown before their closed cultivation.

Lady Yun lingered for only a moment longer before stepping back toward the pavilion’s shadows. Her Dark Yin Body suppressed her presence as she moved away, but she did not become truly invisible. Soon, she too disappeared beyond the outer paths, returning to her quiet observation.

The Cloud-Sea Pavilion grew still.

Lin Tian remained alone in the hall for a while, listening to the mountain wind passing through the open doors.

He eventually rose and walked toward the balcony.

The sprawling peaks of Crimson Nimbus Sect stretched beneath the morning light. Far away, Alchemy Peak remained busy, its formations operating as normal while faint alchemical smoke drifted into the sky.

From this distance, nothing appeared unusual.

Yet Lin Tian knew that Elder Liu’s situation had changed.

Her search for suitable Yang-attribute herbs had produced limited results. External contacts had not provided a reliable supply, while the slower movement of some requested materials had added further inconvenience.

Still, she had not run out of choices.

She could keep searching, wait for delayed materials, or rely on what she already possessed while looking for another answer. None of those choices required the Shadow Web to act, and Lin Tian preferred that every next step appear to come from Elder Liu herself.

That was precisely why he would not push harder.

Every unnecessary move created another chance for suspicion.

He rested one hand on the cold stone railing and looked toward the distant peak.

"Elder Liu," he murmured quietly, "use whatever options remain to you."

His tone held no triumph.

There was no need for it.

She would make her own choice.

Whether she continued searching elsewhere, relied on her reserves, or began considering a different path was something Lin Tian intended to observe rather than control.

The investigation into him had already given her enough information to become curious.

Now he only needed patience.

The Cloud-Sea Pavilion returned to quiet, bathed in the peaceful light of morning.

Lin Tian stood on the balcony for a long moment, his cultivation concealed beneath the Abyssal Shadow Veil as his gaze remained fixed on Alchemy Peak.

He would not make the first move. A single unnecessary approach could turn curiosity into caution, and caution would only make the situation harder to read.

He would wait and see what Elder Liu chose.

For now, silence was enough.
