Chapter 138: 138 | First Real Interest

The atmosphere within Alchemy Peak had grown subdued with each passing day. The peak’s usual activity had diminished, leaving its halls quiet. In her shielded meditation chamber, Elder Liu sat upon the profound-ice jade slab, quietly circulating her Qi as she waited for the latest report.

The Phantom Burns had receded for the moment, but the memory of the previous refinement remained clear. She could still produce usable pills from the lower-grade materials available to her, yet the effort required made it impossible to ignore the growing strain on her body.

The heavy stone doors opened.

Feng stepped inside, a dark-jade slip held carefully in one hand.

"I have finished the inquiry regarding Lin Tian."

Elder Liu opened her eyes. "What did you find?"

Feng infused the jade slip with a thread of Qi. A projection of spiritual text unfolded before them.

"His records are clean, His missions, tournament history, and cultivation record contain nothing unusual. There is no clear sign of concealed wealth, forbidden techniques, or suspicious activity."

Elder Liu studied the projection for several breaths.

"So there is still nothing that explains his understanding of Qi circulation."

"Nothing in the official records," Feng replied. "However, there is another matter worth considering."

Elder Liu looked at him.

"The connection between Lin Tian and Aunt Lin."

Her eyes narrowed slightly. "Explain."

"Several Artifact Pavilion attendants confirmed that Aunt Lin suffered from Severe Qi Stagnation for many years. Her cultivation remained stuck because the stagnant Qi could not be guided properly through her spiritual pathways."

Feng paused before continuing.

"According to the accounts I gathered, Lin Tian examined her condition and helped her reorganize the circulation of her Qi. Not long afterward, Aunt Lin broke through to Foundation Establishment."

Elder Liu’s expression changed.

"Without a high-grade pill?"

"Yes, Master. No medicinal pill was reported. The attendants only spoke of his unusual understanding of spiritual flow and his ability to identify problems in the circulation of Qi."

Silence filled the chamber.

Elder Liu had spent countless years studying the relationship between medicinal energy, elemental balance, and the movement of Qi through the body. Severe Qi Stagnation was troublesome, but it was still fundamentally a problem of blocked circulation.

Her own condition was far more complicated.

Pill Toxicity had accumulated through years of alchemy, and the Phantom Burns were now interfering with her ability to suppress its effects. What she needed was not simply more Yang energy. She needed to understand the source of the imbalance itself.

Her gaze remained fixed on the projection.

"If his understanding of spiritual flow is truly that precise..." she murmured, "then perhaps he can see something that an alchemist cannot."

The thought unsettled her.

A young cultivator was not someone she would normally consider for a problem of this level. Yet that same cultivator had apparently helped Aunt Lin overcome a condition that had resisted years of treatment.

Elder Liu’s pride immediately raised a wall within her mind.

She was an Early Stage Core Formation cultivator and a 4-Star Alchemist. Approaching a junior for guidance on her own condition would be difficult enough. Allowing him to examine her directly was another matter entirely.

"Master?" Feng waited for her response.

"Continue observing him," Elder Liu said at last. "Do not approach him on my behalf."

Feng bowed. "Understood."

Elder Liu waved a hand.

Feng lowered the jade slip and left the chamber.

Once the doors closed, Elder Liu remained silent.

She had not accepted Lin Tian as an answer.

Not yet.

But for the first time, his name was no longer merely an interesting rumor buried in the Outer Sect.

It had become a possibility.

A possibility she could not completely dismiss.

Later that night, the Cloud-Sea Pavilion rested beneath the pale light of the moon.

Tier-3 isolation arrays hummed around the main hall, keeping the pavilion shielded from outside senses. Lin Tian sat quietly in his chair, his aura concealed.

The shadows near the far side of the chamber shifted.

Lady Yun emerged and approached him.

"My Master."

Lin Tian raised his eyes. "Report"

Lady Yun stopped before him.

"Elder Liu has taken an interest in you."

Lin Tian’s expression remained calm. "How much?"

"Enough to consider you a possible solution to her current problem," Lady Yun replied. "What changed her view was the information surrounding Aunt Lin."

Lin Tian leaned back slightly.

"So she has reached the question we expected."

Lady Yun nodded.

"She has not decided to contact you. Her pride is still resisting the idea, but she has stopped treating your name as meaningless."

That was the important change.

Lin Tian did not smile.

He had no need to push her further. A forced encounter would only make her suspicious, while allowing the thought to remain her own would give it time to deepen naturally.

"Did Feng approach Aunt Lin directly?" he asked.

"No. He questioned people around the Artifact Pavilion and followed the existing records. Nothing suggests that they realized the purpose of his inquiry."

"Good."

Lin Tian tapped the arm of his chair once.

"Then leave everything untouched."

Lady Yun waited for his next instruction.

"Continue your observation of Elder Liu. I want to know when her curiosity turns into action."

"Understood."

Lin Tian’s gaze shifted toward the darkened windows.

"If she begins asking for a way to contact me, tell me immediately. Until then, there is no reason to shorten the distance ourselves."

Lady Yun gave a slight bow.

"I will watch."

Lin Tian spoke once more.

"And keep an eye on Feng’s movements. He has already started looking beyond the matter of supplies. I want to know what he investigates next."

"Yes, Master."

Lady Yun vanished into the darkness without drawing any unnecessary attention.

The hall became quiet again.

Lin Tian rested against the back of his chair, his thoughts turning toward Elder Liu’s new hesitation. The first real interest had appeared exactly where it needed to: not as trust, and not as surrender, but as a question she could not entirely push away.

For now, that was enough.

The next stage of the night passed quietly.

Later, when Aunt Lin and Madam Shen joined him in the inner chamber, Lin Tian gave them only the information they needed.

"Elder Liu has begun to consider me as a possible source of help," he said.

Madam Shen’s eyes narrowed thoughtfully. "Because of Aunt Lin?"

"Yes."

Aunt Lin folded her hands before her. "Then my recovery has finally become relevant to her."

"It has," Lin Tian replied. "But nothing needs to change."

Madam Shen nodded. "The Resource Hall will continue its established process."

"Good."

Aunt Lin spoke next. "The Artifact Pavilion will remain as it is. I will not do anything that draws attention to our connection."

Lin Tian looked between them.

"Exactly. The moment we begin adjusting our behavior to encourage her, the value of the situation decreases."

The three women understood.

No special message would be sent.

No invitation would be arranged.

No unusual assistance would appear at the right moment.

Elder Liu had to make the next move herself.

Lin Tian let the silence settle before speaking again.

"Her interest is still fragile. Treat it as information, not victory."

Madam Shen gave a small nod. Aunt Lin agreed without hesitation.

Outside, the night wind moved softly through the distant peaks.

Within the pavilion, the Shadow Web remained still.

The first real opening had appeared.

Now they only had to see whether Elder Liu would walk through it.

Much later, after the others had left, Lin Tian remained in the quiet chamber.

The [Primordial Yang-Tyrant Body] circulated beneath his calm exterior, and a warm current of Yang Qi moved through his meridians. When Lady Yun returned to complete the night’s cultivation, the atmosphere between them was far more relaxed than before.

She stood before him for a moment, then sat beside him.

"My Master."

Lin Tian looked at her and gave a faint smile.

"Come. We will cultivate."

Lady Yun nodded.

They began circulating their Qi together.

The [Primordial Yin-Yang Synergy] guided their energies into harmony, while [Mutual Cultivation Feedback] allowed the resonance between their cultivation bases to deepen. There was no rush in their movements. The process was steady, controlled, and beneficial to both.

As the night deepened, the Cloud-Sea Pavilion remained silent beneath the protection of its isolation arrays. Within the chamber, the steady circulation of Yin and Yang Qi continued without interruption, each cycle strengthening their respective foundations. The quiet rhythm left no trace of the calculated tension that had filled the pavilion earlier that evening.

Far away, Alchemy Peak was still searching for a way forward.

And somewhere within that search, Elder Liu now carried a new thought she had never considered before.

Lin Tian might be worth approaching.

She had not made that choice yet.

Pride still held her back, and several other avenues remained open before her. Yet the thought had survived her first instinct to dismiss it, which meant Lin Tian had crossed an important boundary in her mind.

But she had finally begun to consider it.
