Immortal Travel of Longevity
Chapter 612: An Unexpected Reunion, Remembering the Years
As they spoke, a sudden shout rang out.
“Sky Skiff boarding now!!”
As soon as the shout sounded, many people outside began streaming toward the Sky Skiff.
The disciple from Lingyue Immortal Isle who had just given Chen Changsheng directions also said goodbye and boarded the ship.
Chen Changsheng cupped his hands in farewell, his gaze fixed on the Sky Skiff.
Sky Skiffs were convenient, but slow. Besides, Chen Changsheng was poor and couldn’t afford the fare.
He stood by the harbor shore, watching the Sky Skiff slowly depart.
His eyes caught a figure standing at the boat’s bow—a familiar face, as if seen somewhere before.
That person wore the uniform of Lingyue Immortal Mountain, clearly a disciple. His eyes scanned the Sky Skiff up and down, maybe checking for issues.
But when his gaze shifted toward the shore and spotted the Blue Robe figure, he suddenly froze.“Is that…”
Just as he tried for a closer look, the Blue Robe figure turned around as if about to leave.
So, the moment the Sky Skiff was about to depart, he leaped up and flew toward the harbor.
“Senior Brother Mo!”
A disciple on the Sky Skiff cried out in surprise.
But Senior Brother Mo didn’t look back, shouting: “I’ll take the next Sky Skiff back. Junior Brother Wu, all matters on board are your responsibility!”
Leaving these words, the steward of the Sky Skiff jumped off the ship.
The disciples on the Sky Skiff were left stunned and unsure what to do.
Just as Chen Changsheng was leaving, he suddenly heard a voice call from behind.
“Mr. Chen! Mr. Chen!”
Chen Changsheng paused and turned to look.
He saw the approaching figure and stopped, puzzled.
“Who are you…”
Mo Chou looked at Chen Changsheng excitedly, cupping his hands. “It’s me, Mr. Chen! I’m Mo Chou! Back then, you taught me a sword move on the Sky Skiff!”
At this reminder, Chen Changsheng finally remembered.
“Ah, it’s you.”
Chen Changsheng smiled. “I never expected to meet you here.”
Mo Chou thought it must be fate and said, “Mr. Chen, are you free? How about we find a quiet spot to talk?”
Chen Changsheng considered briefly. Nothing seemed urgent, so he nodded. “Alright.”
Rain City got its name because it rained constantly here year after year. For more than half the year, the sky wept.
They hadn’t walked five steps into Rain City before the heavens dimmed, and a light drizzle began.
“Pitter-patter…”
The rain was gentle, yet it oddly brought a feeling of freshness. Perhaps only an outsider like Chen Changsheng thought this; those who lived here surely found it tiresome.
Chen Changsheng asked, “The Sky Skiff just left, and you came down specifically after seeing me? How will you go back now?”
Mo Chou replied, “There’s no need to worry, sir. The next Skiff leaves the day after tomorrow. I’ll take that one.”
“Will that cause trouble?”
“Not at all.”
“Good.”
Mo Chou knew much more about Rain City, gathered partly from passengers on the Skiffs and partly from his own observations.
Chen Changsheng said, “That disciple mentioned this place is called Rain City. I looked around but found no geographical reason. So why the endless rain?”
Mo Chou explained, “I’ve heard tales. Long ago, it wasn’t like this. Legend says a flood dragon practiced Cultivation here, attempting Dragon Ascension. It survived the Heavenly Tribulation but met disaster during its Water Crossing.”
“It’s said some Cultivators coveted its half-dragon body and set a trap. Even facing certain death, the dragon refused to let them have its remains. At its final breath, it vanished its Mortal Body, merging with the mountains and rivers. Its life became nourishment here.”
“Spiritual Energy grew richer in this place, drawing more Cultivators. As for the constant rain—Water Luck unleashed by its Water Crossing remained bound here, causing the endless downpour. And as people gathered, the place earned its name: Rain City.”
Chen Changsheng said, “So, it was the flood dragon that created this land.”
“Exactly so,” Mo Chou nodded.
Mo Chou added, “Actually, it’s not just here. Many places in the Cultivation World bear traces left by ancestors. It is because of them we have the world of today.”
Chen Changsheng suddenly thought of something. “I just remembered a creature of the ocean.”
“An ocean creature?”
“The whale. Some reach a hundred feet long. Because it’s so huge, when it dies, its body feeds a world of life. So they say, ‘When a whale falls, a myriad beings rise.’ Just like Rain City.”
Mo Chou pondered for a moment. “My knowledge is less than yours, sir. But hearing this… such a death feels grand. I wish I could see it one day.”
Such an honest lad.
Chen Changsheng smiled. “You might never see it. Crossing the Desolate Sea many times, I’ve seen countless Water Demons but still haven’t found whales. Perhaps they don’t exist in our world.”
Mo Chou grinned. “Never seeing one is fine too. We who walk the world as Cultivators—shouldn’t we treasure the heart of exploration most?”
Chen Changsheng agreed, “Long indeed is the journey; unending the journey in search. Well said.”
Mo Chou murmured the words, praising their wisdom.
Chen Changsheng said, “A few years pass so quickly. You’ve changed greatly now. At least you’re no longer timid.”
“If not for your guidance back then, sir, I’d probably still be scrubbing Sky Skiffs.”
“And now you are…?”
“I’ve become a steward on them.”
“Congratulations.”
“This way, sir…”
They chatted easily, like old friends reunited.
Chen Changsheng found this feeling quite wonderful. A chance meeting pulling memories from the years—surely something unforgettable.
Mo Chou explained Rain City’s unique culture. Due to the damp air, locals favored spicy food and strong drink. Most famous was Rain City wine.
“Now wine is something I must try,” Chen Changsheng declared.
Mo Chou led him into a Wine Tavern.
Such taverns were run by Cultivators, yet felt little different from mortal inns. The menu offered wider variety though, as treasures of the Cultivation World sometimes appeared—things like demon meat.
They ordered some snacks and sat down to talk.
Chen Changsheng asked about the sword move he’d scratched onto the Sky Skiff years ago.
Mo Chou looked bashful. “Forgive my slow understanding, sir. I only grasped seventy percent of it. I failed your expectations.”
Chen Changsheng smiled warmly. “Seventy percent is very good. That was only a casual scratch—how much true sword essence could it hold?”
