Xiao Dongxu snapped back to reality and immediately tried channeling that Magical Power into the Formation Array.
He desperately wanted to find a way to solve the puzzle. If it wasn’t because of the array, it must be because of the person!
As the Formation Array activated once more.
A flicker of light shone in Xiao Dongxu’s eyes, but it quickly faded.
The Formation Array’s power remained exactly the same as before, useless.
Xiao Dongxu opened his mouth, looking at Mr. Chen, and said, “It’s not because of channelling the Formation Array’s Magical Power either.”Chen Changsheng thought for a moment. “Try again. This time, use the Formation Diagram I drew, and your Magical Power.”
Xiao Dongxu nodded and started the attempt once more.
Patriarch Yun, sitting nearby, watched the focused pair with a bewildered expression. His presence there seemed out of place.
As the Formation Array activated.
Its power once again left Xiao Dongxu disappointed.
Xiao Dongxu sighed heavily. “It seems one part isn’t enough without the other. So it really is because of the person…”
“But why?”
Xiao Dongxu looked towards Mr. Chen and asked, “When you used the Ancient Script Array, Sir, why did it have such power, while mine had less than one thousandth of its effect?”
Chen Changsheng said, “In the situations just now, we both used different methods. Which one drew the Formation Diagram? Which one provided the Magical Power? Both matter. Yet, the strength varies between users performing the same actions. So, what is the difference between the people?”
Chen Changsheng pondered, then suddenly added, “I believe, setting aside the detail of the Formation Diagram, the power anyone draws from a Formation Array differs. Could it be the Divine Sense factor?”
Xiao Dongxu shook his head. “In tests I’ve done before, several Senior Brothers were at the second layer of Divine Sense. But there wasn’t much difference between the first layer and the second layer. Sometimes Cultivators with the first layer were even stronger than those with the second layer.”
His brow furrowed deeply. “Perhaps we’ve overlooked something…”
This truly baffled him.
Chen Changsheng said, “Let’s think again.”
Xiao Dongxu paused. He looked at Mr. Chen and saw his expression was calm. So he asked, “Has Mr. Chen noticed something?”
Chen Changsheng replied, “I have some ideas, but I’m unsure. Perhaps later you could ask others to test this. You might get results.”
Xiao Dongxu exclaimed happily, “Please guide me, sir!”
Chen Changsheng said, “It’s not guidance. We are discussing, exploring how the Ancient Script legacy faded, and what exactly the bindings locked onto those Ancient Scripts are.”
Xiao Dongxu was stunned for a moment, then chuckled.
Chen Changsheng continued, “I learned a Decree Art early on in my cultivation journey. It has the effect of Words Become Reality. If mastered deeply, a single word can complete a grand array, suppress Immortals, destroy demons, lift mountains, or overturn seas.”
Xiao Dongxu said, “This junior has studied Decree Art too, but the results weren’t impressive. It only worked in minor situations. In terms of practical use, it’s probably…”
He felt doubtful. In his understanding, Decree Art couldn’t possibly do things like lifting mountains or overturning seas.
“Exactly,” Chen Changsheng smiled. “This method has a very high threshold. One must echo with Heaven and Earth to perform it. That’s why it’s widespread among Ghost Deities, but Cultivators rarely learn it.”
“Most Cultivators consider it useless. Even those who master it seldom use it. When I speak of lifting mountains and overturning seas, I do not exaggerate. But that requires profound resonance with Heaven and Earth. The reason many Cultivators find it useless is that they can’t find the method to resonate with Heaven and Earth.”
Hearing this, Xiao Dongxu reacted.
He stood up again, suddenly filled with excitement.
“That’s it!”
He grew agitated.
This was the factor he had always overlooked!
“I understand now!”
“It’s echoing with Heaven and Earth!”
Xiao Dongxu exclaimed excitedly, “Ancient Scripts and Decree Art are similar! They both point directly to the essence of Heaven and Earth! Without resonance, how can they show their power?”
Chen Changsheng said, “Friend Xiao, you should still do more comparisons later. This is only my speculation. Plus, I think there might be another possibility.”
Xiao Dongxu opened his mouth, then calmed down.
He slowly sat back down, realizing he had lost his composure. “This junior lost composure.”
Chen Changsheng said, “It’s fine.”
He added quickly, “I think, besides echoing with Heaven and Earth, these Ancient Scripts themselves are significant. They each hold meaning. Seemingly casual, each character points to an original essence. But perhaps, each character carries its own binding.”
“Just like an Immortal Sword.”
“In the world, Sword Cultivators use their own swords to slay demons and evil. An Immortal Sword follows its master to shine. But if one doesn’t recognize it, it will never reveal Sword Immortal power.”
“I suspect the Ancient Scripts are similar to an Immortal Sword. Only one who recognizes it gains its might.”
After hearing this, Xiao Dongxu jolted inside, murmuring.
“Only one who recognizes it gains its might…”
The reasoning worked. It seemed flawless. It shouldn’t be wrong.
Xiao Dongxu looked at Mr. Chen. He regained his focus but felt puzzled.
Why did it seem Mr. Chen understood the path of Ancient Scripts exceptionally well?
And what he just said…
How much did Mr. Chen echo with Heaven and Earth?
Did Mr. Chen recognize the Ancient Scripts or not? Like recognizing an Immortal Sword?
Xiao Dongxu immediately began asking, “Mr. Chen, are you…”
He stopped halfway through his sentence.
He had always spoken his mind freely toward his Master. Now he had nearly made an error again.
This wasn’t something he should be prying into.
Chen Changsheng asked, “Why stop?”
Xiao Dongxu snapped back, saying, “This junior suddenly understands, so…”
He lowered his head. “Please pardon this junior, sir.”
Chen Changsheng laughed. “There’s nothing to pardon. Friend Xiao possesses curiosity toward things. That is a good trait. But as the Sect Master says, chewing too much makes it hard to swallow. Learning too much, too broadly, is also not good.”
Xiao Dongxu grinned and nodded. “This junior will remember your teaching.”
Chen Changsheng waved his hand. “Friend Xiao, we sit here facing each other like discussing the Dao. There should be no distinction of rank or seniority.”
Xiao Dongxu smiled wryly. “This junior wouldn’t dare. If my Master found out, he’d surely skin me alive.”
Chen Changsheng couldn’t help but smile too. “That’s true, then I won’t put you in a difficult position, Friend Xiao. But no need for such excessive formality either.”
“Let’s discuss the remaining Ancient Scripts now.”
Patriarch Yun had been bewildered beside them for a long time. Seeing them finally get down to serious business was a relief.
He only knew that during their conversation, Mr. Chen and Friend Xiao had uncovered something extraordinary. But how extraordinary, he wasn’t clear, nor did he want to be.
Patriarch Yun was an honest man. Even if he listened in, once he walked out the door, he’d forget it all.
Although Mr. Chen hadn’t said he mustn’t speak of it.
But rules were rules.
Where there were people, there was Jianghu. Xiao Dongxu was still young, but Patriarch Yun was already an old hand in the Jianghu.
