Chapter 1427: Taotie Bloodline

  • Next Chapter

As Jiu Fengchun grew, Chen Changsheng gradually noticed the child's peculiarities. They hadn't been obvious in his early years, but now, the boy learned whatever he was taught and understood whatever he read.

This phenomenon did not just worry Chen Changsheng; Zhao Yuqing felt the same apprehension.

This was far from good!

Zhao Yuqing would have much preferred for Jiu Fengchun to remain as mediocre as before.

So he sought out Changsheng to discuss a countermeasure.

"What else can we do? We have to move it up," Chen Changsheng said.

Zhao Yuqing had been thinking the same, though he voiced his concern: "His own consciousness hasn't completely taken over yet. If anything goes wrong..."

"Then he dies."

Chen Changsheng looked at Zhao Yuqing and said, "Neither of us can afford to take that risk."

Zhao Yuqing fell silent.

But there was no other way.

If they allowed that consciousness to awaken, their efforts would not just be wasted; Jiu Fengchun might completely become someone else.

And so on that day, Zhao Yuqing knocked Jiu Fengchun unconscious.

It was then left to Chen Changsheng to eradicate the previous host's consciousness lingering within the boy's soul.

When it came to matters of the soul, Zhao Yuqing's abilities fell far short of Chen Changsheng's.

Entering Jiu Fengchun's Sea of Consciousness, Chen Changsheng saw a figure who had evidently been waiting there for a long time.

The figure looked particularly curious to see Chen Changsheng.

After looking Chen Changsheng up and down, he seemed to realize something.

"So that's how it is."

"No wonder I couldn't break this soul confinement."

Chen Changsheng paused slightly at these words, clearly not understanding what the person meant.

"Do we know each other?" Chen Changsheng asked.

The person froze at Chen Changsheng's words, seemingly not expecting such a response.

"You don't recognize me?"

"Take a closer look," Chen Changsheng told him.

The person frowned slightly, his gaze sweeping over Chen Changsheng as if trying to see right through him.

A moment later, he seemed to suddenly realize something.

"You!!"

"Hmm?"

As he looked, the person abruptly burst out laughing.

"Hahahaha..."

"So that's how it is! So that's how it is!!"

"I was wondering why it was so strange! Truly... truly ridiculous, haha..."

"Chen Changsheng, oh, Chen Changsheng! I was wondering how you managed to step into immortality. To think you severed your own seven emotions and six desires!"

"Utterly ridiculous, ridiculous!!"

Chen Changsheng listened to all of this with a calm expression. He raised his hand, and his soul condensed into a Broken Sword.

It looked as if he was ready to strike down the person before him in the next second.

Only then did the person's laughter slowly trail off. "So, you're here to kill me?" he asked with a smile.

"What else would I be here for?" Chen Changsheng replied.

"Do you know who I am?"

"Speak if you want to. If not, This Chen will make his move."

The person smiled and shook his head. "Make your move. I always knew this day would come. You planned to do this from the very beginning, didn't you?"

"My blood does indeed have endless wondrous uses, doesn't it?"

Chen Changsheng raised his hand, and the Broken Sword drifted slightly upward.

"Hehehe," the person spoke up again. "But you're wrong. You have absolutely no idea what you'll end up raising. Did you really think my blood was that simple?"

Chen Changsheng frowned slightly upon hearing this. "What do you mean?"

"My true form is a Taotie, swallowing mountains and the heavens. What did you think you were raising with my blood? As he continues to grow, his appetite will only increase. Eventually, no matter what he eats, he won't be full. When Spiritual Energy is no longer enough, he'll start devouring demons, and finally, he will start eating humans, swallowing the sea, consuming the mountains..."

"Hehehe, when that day comes, you will also become a meal on his plate. No one will be an exception, no one! Hahaha!"

The Taotie laughed uproariously as he spoke.

It was as if he were mocking Chen Changsheng's ignorance.

But this seemed to mean nothing to Chen Changsheng; it could not enrage him at all.

Instead, Chen Changsheng's Divine Sense simply poured outward.

In an instant, it enveloped that cluster of Divine Sense.

Within moments, the Taotie's laughter gradually faded, until finally, there was not a single sound left.

He hadn't put up the slightest resistance, simply allowing Chen Changsheng to act as he pleased.

When Chen Changsheng regained his senses, his gaze fell on Zhao Yuqing.

"How did it go?" Zhao Yuqing asked.

"Destroyed. He didn't resist."

As he spoke, Chen Changsheng suddenly brought up what the person had said.

"However..."

He recounted those matters one by one.

Zhao Yuqing's expression grew solemn upon hearing this, and his gaze shifted toward Jiu Fengchun with a slightly different look.

Chen Changsheng glanced at him and said, "Whether to keep him or not is up to you."

"A Taotie..."

Zhao Yuqing muttered. He had never expected to still hear the name of a demon that had existed in ancient times.

And more important was this trace of a bloodline!

In legends, the Taotie was an evil beast. Zhao Yuqing had also seen it once in Chen Changsheng's Dream Method, but that was the Dream Method—how could it be taken as real?

"You understand more about Taoties. Why don't you tell me about them?"

Chen Changsheng shook his head. "How much could I possibly know? But speaking of it, what that person just said probably isn't false. I'm afraid this child really will turn out that way later on."

"Lose control?"

"It's possible."

Zhao Yuqing said, "Then we just have to make sure he doesn't lose control, and it'll be fine."

"Easier said than done," Chen Changsheng said. "If it were that easy, he wouldn't have refrained from putting up any resistance at all."

"And going by his words, his existence likely predates the Heavenly Dao itself. An old monster from ancient times."

"So what?"

Zhao Yuqing didn't seem worried at all, saying, "If it were a mighty cultivator from a few thousand years ago, I might be a little afraid. But if we trace it back to the ancient era, I only see these old monsters as lingering on their dying breaths."

"You are taking this a bit too lightly."

Chen Changsheng sighed softly and said, "What I want to tell you is that if we truly have no way to control this child when the time comes, the disaster it invites will likely be massive."

Zhao Yuqing fell silent, saying nothing.

Chen Changsheng stood up. He let out a breath and said, "Consider it. This Chen's suggestion is not to keep him now."

Zhao Yuqing countered, "Do you think there's a possibility he was baiting you into killing the child?"

"You still want to gamble?"

"This is not a gamble."

Zhao Yuqing shook his head, saying, "Maybe he himself is also afraid of this child growing up, and deliberately put on such an act for you?"

"As for what this taotie bloodline will actually turn into, are you and I really just going to listen to his one-sided words?"

"If we did that, it would truly be foolish."

After a long time, Chen Changsheng gave his reply.

"That girl is coming back. This matter... I will not get involved."
