Chapter 1294: When Words Do Not Match, Even Half a Sentence Is Too Much

Chen Changsheng exhaled. After a brief negotiation, he left the place.

Jiuxiaozi had struck at the root of the problem.

It seemed Chen Changsheng had never considered that he would head toward such an end.

He had always been like a traveler between heaven and earth. No matter how many places he passed through, he never had a destination, never a clear purpose.

This aimlessness had gradually molded Chen Changsheng into who he was today.

As countless memories piled upon one another and the people of his past faded away, he had grown increasingly silent and rigid.

In this life of walking on thin ice, he could not even see an end in sight.

"You hesitated."

A voice rang out beside Chen Changsheng's ear.

Chen Changsheng opened his eyes and looked over. Just as he expected, it was the Demon Sovereign.

"Have you ever hesitated?" Chen Changsheng asked.

The Demon Sovereign had not expected him to ask such a thing.

He fell silent for a moment before answering, "I have."

At that, Chen Changsheng said, "If you are here to preach or to guide This Chen, you can shut your mouth. This Chen does not want to hear it."

The Demon Sovereign opened his mouth, but only said, "Not quite. I just want to know what you encountered when you went out this time."

"Do you not know better than This Chen?"

"Heh..."

The Demon Sovereign chuckled. "You could not bear to strike, but I could. In less than sixty years, I seized several streams of qi destiny for you. I even elevated your Cultivation Base to a height you could never reach yourself. Is that not worth rejoicing over?"

Chen Changsheng narrowed his eyes. "You had better talk less. While This Chen does not want to die right now, you still have some time to live. One day, I will kill you."

"You want to die?"

"Hahahaha..."

The Demon Sovereign suddenly burst out laughing. "How truly laughable. Do you not know? Do you not understand? Not only do you and I lack the right to dictate our own lives, we do not even have the right to dictate our own deaths. We will not die. We will only suffer torment through Reincarnation time and time again. Do you still not understand?"

They were the seven emotions and six desires severed by the Heavenly Dao, sharing the same lifespan as heaven and earth. Who could possibly kill them? Even seeking death was impossible.

Chen Changsheng narrowed his eyes and said, "Are you mocking your own misery?"

The Demon Sovereign's smile came to an abrupt halt. "With you helping me for the time being, why wouldn't I gladly accept it?"

Chen Changsheng scoffed coldly. "Laughable."

A smile tugged at the corners of the Demon Sovereign's mouth. "We are all just insects and rats in the gutters. Why must you and I butt heads like this? The way I see it, if you and I joined forces, changing this world would be as simple as speaking it."

Chen Changsheng drew his Sword and pressed it against the Demon Sovereign's throat.

The Demon Sovereign's words ground to a halt. He slowly reached out, pinched the blade between his fingers, and moved it aside.

"The difference between you and me is too great. Your disposition is truly too..."

The Demon Sovereign shook his head, looking at him as though he were garbage on the side of the road.

Chen Changsheng's disposition was truly too poor.

Far, far too poor.

But on second thought, had he not been exactly the same in the past? He had never been able to figure out these many affairs of the Red Dust.

Chen Changsheng looked at him. "You and I cannot escape this fate. We were born of the seven emotions and six desires. No matter how hard we try, we can never escape the quagmire of emotions and desires."

"How do you know without trying?"

The Demon Sovereign sat down and said, "If we do not try, how do we know it absolutely will not work? How much experience do you have, and how much ability do you possess, that you dare to say this is impossible?"

Chen Changsheng replied, "Just how much capability do you have, to think you can change the world?"

When words do not match, even half a sentence is too much.

The two fell into silence.

They simply could not stand each other, as incompatible as fire and water.

The Demon Sovereign did not say anything more to provoke him. Persuading the person before him was akin to persuading himself; it was simply difficult beyond belief.

After a long silence, the Demon Sovereign asked, "How is Yu Xuan?"

Chen Changsheng opened his eyes when he heard this.

He asked, "That soul?"

The Demon Sovereign nodded.

Chen Changsheng stared at him, somewhat puzzled, but still answered, "Everything is fine. Preparing medicine and brewing soup, nothing else."

"Mhm."

Chen Changsheng asked, "So that soul... is it really Yu Xuan?"

"Hm?" The Demon Sovereign looked at him.

Chen Changsheng said, "What is the matter with Manyue?"

"Her?"

The Demon Sovereign shook his head with a smile. "She is a mistake. She is also Yu Xuan, only vastly different. Just like you and me, we are two different people."

Chen Changsheng scoffed. "Now you say we are two different people."

"It is enough that you know."

The Demon Sovereign exhaled and said, "In any case, she is just a silly girl."

Chen Changsheng did not respond further. He had merely been curious, and the answer was exactly as he had guessed.

To Xiao Dongxu, the changes in the Mortal World were becoming increasingly complex.

He had seemingly never expected that Hongyuan Tianxia would have such a massive, rallying response. During his continuous investigations, he discovered that other factions were also intervening.

It was not just demons.

Xiao Dongxu was also unable to find the origin of this unknown aura. He only sensed danger.

Extreme danger!

Yet, this sense of crisis felt incredibly familiar to him, as though he had once felt it from a certain person.

This left him completely baffled.

"Who could it be?"

Xiao Dongxu sank into deep thought.

"Priest Xiao."

Xiao Dongxu looked toward the doorway. He paused for a moment and said, "Young Lady Yu, please take a seat."

Yu Youyu asked, "Did Priest Xiao need me for something?"

Xiao Dongxu said, "Nothing in particular, just a chat. About some of the Divine Abilities and Arts and Techniques you used earlier."

"Was there something wrong with them?"

"Not exactly wrong. I am simply a bit curious."

Xiao Dongxu was particularly curious about Yu Youyu's Divine Abilities and Arts and Techniques. These Divine Abilities were only recorded in some fragmentary ancient texts, and even then, they were incomplete. Yet from Yu Youyu, they were whole and complete.

Yu Youyu briefly demonstrated them for him.

Upon seeing this, Xiao Dongxu asked, "Who taught you these?"

Yu Youyu replied, "Mister Chen taught them to me."

"Mister Chen?"

Xiao Dongxu's heart trembled slightly at those words.

He could not help but fall into deep thought, the suspicions in his heart rising once more.

"Why are they all secret arts..."

Xiao Dongxu muttered under his breath, his gaze sweeping back and forth over Yu Youyu.

Yu Youyu asked, "Is Priest Xiao trying to ask about Mister Chen?"

Xiao Dongxu snapped back to his senses and said, "That is my intention. I wonder how much Young Lady Yu knows, and whether you would be willing to tell me a bit about him?"

"It is not exactly a secret that cannot be spoken of."
