Immortal Travel of Longevity

Chapter 1068: The Sound of Death

  • Next Chapter

That night, raging fires engulfed the Shengxue Kingdom.

The people in the streets had drunk the tainted water. Their eyes burned red as they tore into one another, charging blindly at the insurgents with no regard for their own lives.

"Kill! Kill! Kill!"

"Blood, blood..."

Those words echoed endlessly in their minds.

The fallout had far exceeded anyone's expectations.

That single Elixir Pill had flowed down the river into thousands of households. Countless people went mad from it, turning to cannibalism.

"How could this happen? What is going on..."

Only now did the king of the Shengxue Kingdom truly panic.

Only when the person beside her drew a blade and pressed it to her neck.

The king finally understood that she had been living beneath someone else's blade from the very beginning. In times like these, martial strength was no match for the human heart.

"Old hag, the world has changed. It's time for you to step down!"

"Hand over the antidote!"

Eyes bloodshot, the king glared at the people before her and hissed, "Don't even think about it!"

"Search her!"

They had single-handedly planned and executed this rebellion. The ensuing chaos had allowed them to plant their people in the palace effortlessly. Now, with the streets full of people slaughtering and devouring each other, no one outside cared about the coup happening within.

"Hahaha, hahaha..."

The king's laughter sounded wretched. As the crowd looked on in confusion, she suddenly raised her arm.

In a flash, the Elixir Pill appeared from the jeweled ring on her finger, and she swallowed it in a single gulp.

The crowd recoiled in shock.

"Spit it out!"

"Old hag, spit it out right now!"

The man seized her by the throat, gripping so hard her face flushed red and a trickle of blood leaked from the corner of her mouth.

With bloodshot eyes, she forced out every word.

"Then let's..."

"...die together!"

A mere moment later, she was strangled to death.

The man wore a dark expression as he coldly ordered, "Summon a healer! Cut her open! We must retrieve the divine pill!"

"If you can't find it, chop her into pieces and throw her into the river!"

But the outcome did not unfold as they had anticipated.

The healer failed to retrieve the Elixir Pill in time. They scoured her stomach but couldn't find a trace of it. Only then did the usurpers truly begin to panic.

"Chop her up and throw her into the river!"

The result, however, was obvious.

The Elixir Pill's efficacy was completely spent!

Yet at this moment, the palace had already been surrounded by the mob outside.

Fires sprang up everywhere in the city, sending billowing pillars of thick smoke into the sky.

The sounds of endless slaughter echoed unceasingly throughout the isolated city.

High upon the Heavenly Mountain.

With a wave of her hand, Zisu swept the mists away.

Looking down, she saw the burning city illuminating the dark night.

The faint, chaotic din of slaughter drifted up to her.

Zisu's expression shifted, a hint of regret flickering in her eyes.

But that touch of regret soon faded, replaced by sheer, icy indifference.

Only like this could she gather enough flesh and blood.

While she was lost in thought, a figure suddenly appeared in the city below.

Zisu furrowed her brows and flew down.

Changshan looked at the tragic state of the city, his expression shifting drastically.

Master had guessed wrong after all...

And he had arrived too late.

"A Blood Pill..."

How could Changshan not recognize it? What else could cause these people to act like this, other than his Junior Sister's Blood Pill?

Changshan stood in a daze for a moment before snapping into action.

He raised his hand to cast a spell, intending to awaken the frenzied mob with the Mind-Calming Incantation.

Unexpectedly, a voice interrupted him.

"Senior Brother."

Changshan froze. He looked over, his expression twisting in fury as he rebuked her. "Zisu! Look at what you've done!"

Zisu remained placid. "What have I done?"

She shook her head. "I gave the king a way to resolve her lack of military strength. A single Blood Pill was enough to wipe out all the usurpers, and the antidote was real. I was just helping her eliminate the instability in this city. Sigh... to be honest, I never expected this either. But didn't they bring this upon themselves? What does it have to do with me?"

Seeing the heavy aura of karmic sin lingering around her, Changshan shouted, "Wake up! Look at the endless karmic sin surrounding you! Does all of this truly have nothing to do with you?!"

Zisu's expression turned cold. "They brought this upon themselves! The ugliness of the human heart sowed this bitter fruit! What does it have to do with me?!"

Changshan gasped for breath, abandoning the argument.

He raised his hand and began to chant the Mind-Calming Incantation.

Zisu watched him calmly, making no move to stop him.

The Mind-Calming Incantation drifted into the ears of those driven mad by the Blood Pill, but it had absolutely no effect. Not a single person woke from their frenzy.

Changshan was stunned before he quickly realized the issue.

"You sealed their hearing?!"

Zisu smiled. "What are you talking about, Senior Brother? Hasn't this always been a drawback of the Blood Pill? Vital energy rushes to the head, deafening them to outside noises. Such basic logic... Ah, right. Senior Brother doesn't understand alchemy, so of course you wouldn't understand."

Changshan stepped forward and demanded, "The antidote!"

Zisu shook her head. "Unfortunately, there was only one antidote, and it's already been destroyed. If I were to fire up the furnace and refine another, this place would be reduced to ruins long before the Elixir Pill was finished."

Changshan went blank. Shaking his head, he stared at Zisu in disbelief. "How did you become like this? How could you..."

"Master believed in you so deeply. He said you would never do something so harmful to human life. But look at what you're doing! Those are tens of thousands of lives! They are living, breathing people!"

"How could you be so vicious?!"

"How?!"

In his agitation, Changshan grabbed Zisu by the throat.

A faint demonic aura surged from Zisu's body, and dark energy seeped into her eyes.

She reached out and gripped Changshan's arm.

Under Changshan's astonished gaze, she slowly pried his hand away, inch by inch.

"Crack..."

The sound of shattering bone and tearing sinew rang out.

Changshan let out a muffled groan, his arm twisting unnaturally.

Zisu looked at him coldly. "Didn't you dote on me the most in the past, Senior Brother? Why are you trying to harm me now? Just because I won't save them? They brought this upon themselves. Why should I save them?"

Changshan collapsed to the ground, gasping for breath. He looked at Zisu, now wreathed in demonic energy, and said in a trembling voice, "You..."

"You've entered the demonic path?!"

With a raise of her hand, a Sword flew into Zisu's grasp.

She stepped forward, approaching Changshan step by step, as if he would become a dead soul under this Sword in the very next moment.

But in that instant, a brief moment of clarity returned to Zisu's eyes. She suddenly paused, a look of hesitation flashing across her face.

That hesitation faded just as quickly, replaced by absolute resolve.

"Tap, tap..."

The sound of her footsteps echoed continuously. To Changshan's ears, it was the sound of death.
