Chapter 1024: Nighttime Raid on the Chancellor's Manor!

  • Next Chapter

Ruyi had always been a fearless girl.

She feared nothing; it was simply her nature.

She had met many people in her life, mostly in the jianghu. Yet no matter how you looked at it, those she could truly call friends were few and far between. Sister Yun had once given her a chance at a stable life, letting her work as a manager in the embroidery shop, and had cared for her like a blood sister.

So she came.

Even facing the Chancellor's Manor, she felt no fear.

People of the jianghu naturally followed their own hearts.

"Ruyi, Ruyi, you can't go. You'll die."

Lihua whispered in Ruyi's ear.

Ruyi hesitated for a moment but did not stop. Riding a horse openly through the streets of Shangjing City naturally drew the attention of the city guards and officials.

"Audacious!"

"No riding in Shangjing City! Dismount!"

The woman on horseback did not pull the reins to stop. Instead, she leaned slightly forward.

A group of guards blocked the path ahead.

Seeing that she wasn't stopping but charging straight at them, the men jumped in shock.

"Hold your ground!"

The moment the order was shouted, the horse was already upon them.

Ruyi's eyes narrowed, and she sharply yanked the reins.

Neigh!

The horse whinnied and suddenly leaped.

Under the stunned gazes of dozens of patrolling guards, it soared right over their heads.

A hoof clipped a military cap, sending it flying.

Thud...

The Swift Horse swept past like a fleeting shadow. The woman on its back, her gaze as sharp as a sword, never looked back once as she sped away.

The guards stood frozen. One of them touched the bare top of his head, stumbling backward in absolute terror. Only after a long moment of panic did he realize he was completely unharmed.

The dozens of men simply watched the woman with the Long Spear disappear into the distance. Stunned, someone muttered,

"What magnificent bearing..."

Her figure was like a general on a battlefield, brimming with imposing presence.

"Pity she's a woman."

Those words snapped the rest of them out of their daze.

"Quick! Call the other guards! An outlaw is riding through the city!"

The men scrambled into action, their expressions shifting frantically.

But a moment later, Another horse's whinny echoed.

"Hyah!"

They looked back.

"It's another woman!"

"Fuck! Get down!"

By the time they reacted, the rider was already upon them.

The exact scene from moments ago replayed right before their eyes.

In a flash, the wind whipped past their ears.

Clatter!

"Whoa."

Dong Chiyu pulled the reins, bringing her horse to a sudden halt, and glanced back.

Her gaze was even colder than the previous woman's.

For a split second, it even held killing intent.

Stared down by her, the guards' breath caught in their throats. Though dozens of men stood clumped together, genuine fear sprouted in their hearts.

Dong Chiyu considered silencing them all. After all, the Spear Immortal was ultimately a mortal. If the guards of Shangjing City swarmed them later, getting away would be difficult. Her hesitation lasted only a moment, however. She withdrew her gaze, spurred her horse, and gave chase in the direction Ruyi had gone.

Why fear them?!

With the Spear Immortal here, and with herself by her side, what did it matter if they had to carve out a bloody path?

"Hyah!!"

...

"Mmph, mmph..."

Tang Yuerong had been abducted by death warriors. Her hands and feet were bound, and a dirty rag gagged her mouth. After a bumpy ride, she opened her eyes to find herself in a large courtyard.

This was the backyard of the Chancellor's Manor.

She recognized it at a glance!

Years ago, she had come here once with her father for the Chancellor's fiftieth birthday. She had sat in this very backyard with a group of female relatives, drinking tea and chatting.

It's Li Linheng!

Tang Yuerong's heart ran cold. She had long known this man harbored wolfish ambitions, but she hadn't expected him to be so ruthless, nor to have secretly raised so many death warriors.

She was brought to a set of doors.

One of the warriors went inside to report.

The sound of a Qin echoed from within the room. Through the screen, the silhouette of a slender figure could be seen swaying gracefully, her dance exquisite.

"Get inside!"

Tang Yuerong was shoved into the room.

She saw the current Grand Chancellor enjoying the dance, nodding in satisfaction.

Seeing him raise a hand, the performers before him respectfully withdrew one by one.

Li Linheng's gaze fell upon Tang Yuerong, and he smiled. "I have been quite presumptuous today. I hope Second Lady Tang will forgive me."

A death warrior beside her pulled the rag from her mouth.

Tang Yuerong glared coldly at the man before her. "Li Linheng! Let me tell you right now! Don't even dream of using me to control the trading firm. I would rather bash my head in right here than let you succeed!"

Li Linheng paused, then burst into loud laughter.

"As expected, the rumors outside are truly false. They all say Second Lady Tang is a delicate, fragile woman, but I never imagined you to be so resolute, that you would rather die than yield."

"Fascinating. Truly fascinating."

Li Linheng clapped his hands, then continued, "However, Second Lady Tang seems to have misunderstood something. I never planned to use you to threaten those shopkeepers. You simply aren't qualified for that."

Tang Yuerong spat, struggling as she cursed, "You hypocritical scum!"

Li Linheng's expression didn't change. He nodded. "Is there a shortage of hypocritical scum in this world? Isn't your father one? Isn't that little brother of yours one too?"

He scoffed coldly. "Do you think your Tang Family has any other path left? Your father and your little brother have been secretly funding Prince Yu's rise to power. I have already found the evidence. In the early years, the Emperor looked highly upon your Tang Manor, but now, it only takes a single word from me to reduce your Tang Manor to ashes!"

Tang Yuerong sneered. "Ridiculous."

Li Linheng glanced at the death warrior nearby.

The death warrior understood instantly. He raised a hand and slapped her hard across the face.

Blood trickled from the corner of Tang Yuerong's mouth. She spat a mouthful of blood and said, "My Tang Family Trading Firm spans the world. Does the Great Xiang's Imperial Court even own this world anymore? Reduced to ashes? How truly ridiculous."

Li Linheng's expression twisted wildly.

He was just about to speak when a sudden commotion echoed from outside.

"Go see what happened," Li Linheng ordered.

Before the death warrior could move, a man hurried in to report.

"My Lord, there's a—"

Before he could finish, a Long Spear shot through the courtyard air.

Squelch!

The Long Spear pierced straight through the man's heart, and he collapsed dead to the floor.

Clatter, clatter...

A woman rode in on horseback. She grabbed the Long Spear, her icy gaze locking onto Li Linheng.

The atmosphere instantly plummeted to freezing.

Li Linheng froze, then quickly backed away as dozens of death warriors swarmed forward to protect him.

"Such nerve!"

Li Linheng scoffed coldly.

The spear was coated in blood, which dripped steadily from the tip.

"If you don't want to die, get lost!" Ruyi's frosty voice rang out across the courtyard.

Tang Yuerong stared at the woman, completely bewildered.

She didn't recognize her.

In fact, she had never seen her before in her life.
