Immortal of the Nine Realms
Chapter 1917: The Grand Commander
God-Slaying Army?
The eyes of the Ghost Immortals from all factions suddenly grew a bit more grave, as if those three words carried their own unique deterrence.
With a grave expression, Xie Aman transmitted, "The God-Slaying Army spearheaded this sweeping push across the Taicang Realm. Shao Mengyuan is the young commander of the God-Slaying Army, and his father is its grand commander.
"Since ancient times, the God-Slaying Army has been the pinnacle of combat power within the Abyss of Demons. Its inheritance and foundation far surpass those of any other Demon Race faction. Nowadays, the Demon Race is fragmented into several camps, but that army remains the largest camp. It's the only one that can lead a sweeping campaign of this scale against the Upper Three Realms."
Feeling rather curious, Fang Chen asked, "Is their grand commander a Half-Step Heavenly Dao?"
If he weren't a Half-Step Heavenly Dao, how could he possibly lead the largest camp among the many demon factions, and even head such a massive operation as the sweep of the Taicang Realm?
"He isn't, but he wields a sword with a terrifyingly immense power. With it, he is no different from a Half-Step Heavenly Dao."
"A sword?"
"Yes, a sword. It is not a spiritual treasure, and it is not sentient, so it does not appear on the Spiritual Treasure Ranking. Yet, it is immensely powerful and even suspected to be related to outsiders."
"Related to outsiders.... Then it likely is..." Fang Chen's eyes shifted. There was a very high probability that it had been brought over from the God Realm.
Although the Saints of the Demon Race at that time had all died, there were still some Half-Saints, as well as some Saints who were secretly friendly with the demons who could have covertly lent a hand. Before the migration, preparing some items for them to help them better establish a foothold in the outside world was entirely reasonable.
Fang Chen asked, "Senior Sister, can the history of this God-Slaying Army be traced back to the early stages of the Demon Race's rise?"
Xie Aman replied, "That is not entirely clear. However, based on the information we possess, it wouldn't be unreasonable to think so. The God-Slaying Army has been passed down from generation to generation. In the future, Shao Mengyuan will become its grand commander. In fact, he's already at least as strong as the current grand commander. All he lacks is the God-Slaying Sword.
"During the Taicang Realm negotiations, we already reached an agreement with the God-Slaying Army to concede the Ancient Desolate Realm, the Sanyang Realm, and the Nine Stars Realm to them. In return, he would withdraw all of the Demon Race's spies still lurking within our realms and have the Demon Race support us on major matters involving the Nine Realms." She narrowed her eyes, gazing at Shao Mengyuan. "Therefore, if he does not stand on your side this time, our negotiations with the Demon Race will amount to nothing more than empty talk."
The Demon Race's Ghost Immortals of the Taicang Realm also watched Shao Mengyuan with grave expressions, waiting for him to speak. Noticing that Shao Mengyuan did not answer the question immediately, Chen Feifei's smile faded slightly. All of the ninth-transformation immortals also fixed their stares on Shao Mengyuan.
If Shao Mengyuan wasn't on humanity's side, the nature of the situation would become extremely severe. He represented the God-Slaying Army, the largest camp of the Demon Race! His defection would mean completely tearing up the alliance treaty between the two races, failing to get past even the honeymoon period.
The first emperor of the Black Sun Empire smiled faintly as he watched from the side like a mere spectator. He acted as if he hadn't been the one to instigate this topic.
"Forget it. The God-Slaying Army did reach an agreement with you all. Humans and demons have fought for so many years, with neither gaining a decisive victory. Now that we must jointly face the outsiders, I naturally refuse to be the first to dismantle our unity." Shao Mengyuan sighed gently. "Moreover, Lang Daochun's side also mentioned before that my kind owes you humans a favor for some unknown reason. It was supposed to be completely written off after a past incident, but thinking about it, I'd rather we just repay it now, lest your race grumble about it in private."
"The Demon Race owes the Human Race a favor?"
Everyone was somewhat surprised, but thinking closely about it, it wasn't that unusual. What they knew of the upper echelons' affairs was merely the tip of the iceberg. They could not even determine exactly when the two races had truly begun to clash.
"Young Commander, your choice will lead you to eternal damnation." The first emperor of the Black Sun Empire sighed softly. "Have you not noticed that your father seems to have been trapped by certain matters, making it completely impossible for him to come here today? Without the core forces of the God-Slaying Army accompanying you, your mere status as its young commander holds no sway over the current situation."
Shao Mengyuan smiled. "The old monsters who have lain dormant for many years must have all emerged. My father is busy dealing with them, so he is certainly not free at the moment."
Heiyu and the others' expressions darkened slightly. Judging by the dialogue between the two, there was likely another special battle taking place over on the side of the Nine Mortal Realms.
The first emperor of the Black Sun Empire calmly replied, "You are different from them; you ought to know the weight of those existences."
Shao Mengyuan shook his head gently. "You aren't the only one with those old monsters behind you. How could humans and demons not have a few trump cards up their sleeves? It is still undecided who will emerge victorious in this battle. From the moment you cooperated with the God Dao Sect and planned to sell out the Nine Realms for your own benefit, the God-Slaying Army had already placed you at the very top of its must-kill list."
The first emperor of the Black Sun Empire glanced at the large force behind him, a faint smile appearing in his eyes. "No matter how strong your army is, with the grand commander absent, you cannot bring out its true strength. How then can you kill me?"
"Who said the grand commander is absent?" Shao Mengyuan looked at the first emperor of the Black Sun Empire with a face full of surprise. "Why are you talking to yourself like that? Do you truly believe that you have mastered a force capable of upending the situation by relying on some low-class arts to confine a batch of wandering souls and forcibly nourish them into weak ninth-transformation Yin Demons?"
Before the first emperor of the Black Sun Empire could react, Shao Mengyuan had already reached out his hand and made a grasping motion. A long sword enveloped in a brilliant divine light appeared in his hand.
The God-Slaying Sword?!
Chen Feifei and the others all revealed a trace of astonishment, surprised that the sword would already be in Shao Mengyuan's hands.
Xie Aman murmured to herself, "So he has already inherited the position of grand commander..."
The first emperor's expression darkened gradually. Perhaps thinking of the God-Slaying Army's martial might, he couldn't help but show a trace of wariness in his eyes.
The moment the God-Slaying Sword appeared in Shao Mengyuan's hand, his entire aura underwent an earth-shattering transformation. If he had merely been a strong ninth transformation before, then possessing the God-Slaying Sword now, he had already surpassed that. His aura was as deep as an abyss and as vast as the sea. Right now, he was by no means weaker than the Dragon God.
The ninth-transformation immortals of the Grand Wei Study and the Nine Nether Immortal Sect took the lead to salute. "We pay you our respects, Grand Commander!"
The rest of the Demon Race's Ghost Immortals followed suit, their gazes on Shao Mengyuan carrying a tinge of fervor and adoration.
The former grand commander had finally passed his position down to the young commander. That was a transition of power, and also a cycle of death and life. The new grand commander represented vitality and a new atmosphere!
"Respectful greetings... Grand Commander..." Shao Guangyin said as he kept his head lowered. He also constantly repeated those words in his heart. The unwillingness in his eyes gradually faded and turned into a roaring flame instead, which he forcibly suppressed deep within.
