Immortal after a Hundred Reincarnations
Chapter 378 - 159: Qing Lian’s Sacrifice
Then, Bai Ling saw the beauties Di Xixi and Di Mengmeng at Xu Lei’s side, along with two children held by the servant girls accompanying them, and was momentarily taken aback.
Although Xu Lei said nothing, it was obvious they were his children.
Most Cultivators would not casually have children with mortal women.
They made a point of finding a Cultivator of the opposite sex to engage in Dual Cultivation.
Engaging in Charitable Giving with mortal women would still cause some loss of their Origin.
However, Bai Ling knew Xu Lei possessed the Phoenix True Flame, so being with mortal women was not an issue for him.
They had been apart for just over three years, and now Xu Lei already had two wives and what she assumed was a pair of children.
Since Bai Ling couldn’t tell the children’s gender, she didn’t realize they were both girls and assumed he had a son and a daughter.
Of course, Xu Lei said nothing to Bai Ling, and she said nothing in return. They simply walked past one another.
After all, things had ended unpleasantly between them, so it was awkward to say anything now.
Xu Lei, for his part, wanted to ask Bai Ling if she could use her Creepy Spirits to help him find Brother Dao.
But he had done some despicable things in the past that made Bai Ling furious, so he was too embarrassed to bring it up.
’I’ll just forget it.’
’I’ll just continue using my worldly power to investigate.’
This was what Xu Lei originally thought.
But unexpectedly, three days later, Xu Lei was in the mountain forests outside the city, leading his troops in a drill. He stood on the mountainside, using a Telescope to observe the progress of his soldiers’ long-distance marching exercise.
To his surprise, he happened to spot Bai Ling several kilometers away from his army, hunting a Demon Spirit.
It was a Snake Demon, its body as thick as an adult’s thigh, yet it moved with incredible speed.
Bai Ling was giving chase relentlessly, seated atop her Human Puppet.
She could probably catch it, but it looked like it would take a long time.
After a moment’s thought, Xu Lei decided to lend a hand. He immediately issued an order for his army to converge on its position.
They were to form up and block the Snake Demon’s path.
Soon, the Snake Demon arrived.
However, the soldiers were armed with Steel Shields, Steel Spears, and all sorts of Chains and Bows and Arrows.
They furiously blocked its path and closed in!
The Snake Demon was instantly trapped!
It was quickly hooked and ensnared by the soldiers’ numerous steel cables.
At this moment, Bai Ling was also a little stunned.
She hadn’t expected the army to suddenly appear here.
She had known an army was training nearby, but they had been several kilometers away. She never expected them to suddenly rush over to this location.
While she was still filled with suspicion, one of Xu Lei’s generals shouted to her, asking the Daoist Nun to come help them vanquish the Demon.
This serpent seemed to be of the "monster" variety.
Overall, its body was stronger and it possessed greater Power.
But its abilities weren’t that mystical.
It was still very powerful, however, and the soldiers couldn’t defeat it on their own in a short amount of time.
Bai Ling was skeptical.
In the end, she didn’t refuse. She sent her Flying Sword slashing forward, and it cut into the Snake Monster’s body.
The Snake Monster, already tangled in the army’s various Chains, was unable to escape.
It became a sitting duck for Bai Ling and was quickly finished off.
Bai Ling then remotely extracted its Demon Core.
Bai Ling herself didn’t advance, wary that the army might surround and attack her.
The soldiers watched the Flying Sword slay the Demon, and one by one, they gasped in amazement, remarking that such experts truly did exist.
Slaying enemies with a Flying Sword, just like in the legends, was real.
After thanking the general, Bai Ling turned to leave.
However, she had only taken a few steps when Xu Lei appeared, clad in armor and mounted on his horse.
"You’re their general?" Bai Ling took one look at him and understood everything.
After all, with his Phoenix True Flame, Xu Lei wasn’t bound by the usual Cultivator restrictions; he was fully capable of holding an official position in the mortal world.
Other Cultivators, however, could not.
They had to focus on their cultivation and couldn’t get bogged down by too many worldly affairs.
"Don’t think that—" Bai Ling began.
"I don’t need your forgiveness." Xu Lei cut her off. "I want you to do me a small favor. Consider it a trade.
Find a group of ruthless bandits in the mortal world. Their leader goes by the nickname Brother Dao.
Use your Creepy Spirits to find them for me! If you do, just have someone send me a message!
Is that all right? Just try your best. It doesn’t matter if you can’t find them.
These bandits killed my family in the mortal world! I just can’t find where they’re hiding at the moment."
Xu Lei then tossed a wrapped packet of documents to Bai Ling.
Bai Ling stared blankly for a moment, holding the packet.
She had intended to refuse.
’I’ll just give him half of the Demon Core and call it even,’ she thought.
But upon hearing that they had killed Xu Lei’s family, she couldn’t bring herself to refuse.
Just then, Xu Lei turned his horse and galloped away.
But to Xu Lei’s surprise, a subordinate brought him a box a few minutes later.
Inside the box was half a Demon Core.
"General, it’s from that beautiful, young, white-haired Daoist Nun," his subordinate reported. "She said this is your share. As for the matter you spoke of, she said she will try to look for them, but she can’t guarantee she’ll find anything."
Xu Lei was momentarily stunned. Without another word, he simply put the half Demon Core away.
What surprised Xu Lei even more was that just three months later, Bai Ling had actually found Brother Dao’s whereabouts.
She didn’t appear in person, simply having a letter delivered to him.
The letter contained only a few addresses and a few names.
Xu Lei understood at once. This was most likely Brother Dao and his crew.
Naturally, Xu Lei immediately exercised his authority and dispatched men to arrest them.
